The AAA Nashville Sounds are seeking win #90 of the season, having already clinched the division title. They lead this week's series in Louisville 4-1 and are going with a bullpen game today, as RHP Robbie Baker (3.63 ERA in 62 IP, mainly at High-A Wisconsin) makes his first ever minor league start. 3B Patrick Dorrian, who had major contributions in yesterday's pennant-clinching victory, comes in with a 6-game hitting streak:

Five of the first six Louisville batters got hits against RHP Robbie Baker, giving the Bats a 3-0 first inning lead. SS Cam Devanney continued his break-out campaign with a solo homer in the 2nd inning. Sounds trail 3-1.

RF Joey Wiemer exits after 2 1/2 innings in favor of Jonathan Davis. So now we’ll have to watch Wiemer’s status during the upcoming Monday-Wednesday series.

RHP Luis Contreras retired 5 of 6 batters, but then ran out of gas and walked two in a row. After opting to allow him continue, he yielded a 3-run blast. 6-1 Bats lead the Sounds in the 3rd inning.

The IL isn't known for huge offensive numbers (like the west half of the PCL), so I'm wondering why several of our promotions to AAA have better batting stats than they did in AA.

Devanney certainly making a case for a 40 man roster add to protect himself from the rule 5 draft this year. With Reyes out of options I could see a scenario where Devanney takes his place on the 40 man

Down 6-1 with 1 out in the 9th inning, Cam Devanney starts a potential rally with a double - his 3rd extra base hit of the game (and 56th XBH of the season). A few batters later, it’s 6-2 with the bases loaded and still just 1 out for C Nick Kahle.

Nick Kahle singled in a run. Now we’ve got mini-slumping LF Esteury Ruiz (0-for-4 and actually 0-for-his-last-19) with the bases loaded in the 6-3 game.

I’ve been saying it for quite awhile, but, INF Cam Devanney has all the ingredients for an MLB player. I’ve seen a player defy expectations from his first game in Pensacola while with the Shuckets. I now see a player just coming into his own. He has all the tools. There’s more to come from this young man and I am here to keep rooting that horn.

Biloxi is a pitcher-friendly park & league as well, I believe.
