As the headline says, 19-year old future stars CF Jackson Chourio and 6'8" RHP Eury Perez face off as AA Biloxi hosts Pensacola. Offseason signing 23-year old RHP Christian Mejias makes his first start in his second appearance (4 runs in 2 IP in his first outing).

Hoping for some dubs tonight in Carolina and Wisconsin. Been a tough couple of days for the A-Level affiliates.

Well the Mudcats can't lose tonight!

What a fantastic AB by INF Felix Valerio after hitting a ball very hard earlier but right at someone (akin to 2022, honestly). He fights off a few foul balls at 98mph, works the count to 2-2 and then delivers a nice line drive single to LF. Professional AB.

And SS Freddy Zamora works to a favorable 3-1 count and blasts a hard hop grounder over the diving 3B and into LF. He legs it out for a double . Valerio scores. Rodriguez moves to 3B. Men on 2nd and 3rd, 1 down. 2-0 Shuckers.

Chourio strikes out both times against Eury Perez. He just can't lay off the breaking balls low and away.

NOT the 3rd time, Sir. Just absolutely ripped a 3-run jack off the LF foul pole. That ball had some juice. Whewwwww.

Chourio wins the 3rd battle against Eury Perez with a 3-run HR to LF!

Indeed he did. That pole may have wobbled after that impact. Yowza!

Perez threw a hanger and Chourio absolutely smoked it.

Indeed. Tried to get outside and, lo and behold, um, he missed. 😅

Joe Gray Jr is looking like he's conquered A+ so far this season. Plate discipline has been great. If he keeps this up he will get a promotion to AA pretty quickly.

Not to be lost in that Chourio bomb is the fantastic outing from RHP Christian Mejias. That's a debut right there!

Technically his second time pitching (although 1st start), but I am very down with ignoring that first appearance haha.

Every time I watch Chourio jog I think to myself: My gods, he put on 10 pounds and he still swings like a man possessed. He's only 19 years old. Settle down. Settle down.

Well, lost in my viewing shuffle is the fact RHP Adrian Houser had a successful first rehab outing for the Sounds. Excellent! 2 IP / 2 H / 2 BB / 2 K / 0 ER. We'll take it. Just stay healthy, Adrian and get back to your vintage form of 2021 please.

Freddy Zamora has been heating up a bit these past two games. Ripped a double to LF in his last AB. He just roped a HR to straight away CF for his first knock of the year. You love to see it!

RHP Lucas Erceg walks his first batter. Grabs a K. Botches a clear double play come backer to the mound when he couldn't get a proper hold on the ball. With the inning extended, he gives up his first hit of the young season in a looping flare to shallow LF and OF Taylor Naquin's throw is a touch late and well off the plate into the infield grass. 2-1 Tides as they reclaim their lead in the 7th.

Another clutch AB from C Brian Navarreto taking an 0-2 count to work the walk. Now we have OF Blake Perkins up with the bases juiced for OF Blake Perkins who quickly sees his count run to 0-2. Hopefully we can find some magic here. Not tonight in the bottom of the 7th. Grounds out weakly to 2B. On to the 8th.
