The Athletic grades all 30 MLB teams for Memorial Day Weekend

It appears this was written by the local team's beat writers but since the Crew doesn't have one of those at The Athletic, Nick Groke wrote up the Milwaukee segment. He's a former Rockies guy but from what I've seen, is also a roving writer for the site.

The Brewers got a B. What would you give them?

My first instinct was a 'B'. But the more I thought about the things that have gone wrong, the more impressive I think it is that they're in first place. A reluctant 'A' for me.

I’d go B too.

Woodruff hurt, Urias hurt, Ashby hurt,  Burnes & Adames underperforming, Wiemer & Turang hitting like rookies, Taylor hurt then underperforming, Lauer underperforming, 23rd in wRC+, 27th in FIP…but sitting in 1st place with the 3rd highest playoff odds in the NL.

Interesting, I went the other direction and a C.

The injuries have hurt, for sure, but most teams have significant injuries. Maybe the Brewers a little moreso but it hasn't been devastatingly bad.

I bumped them down to the middle based on the complete futility of Winker and Voit, mostly.

I initially voted B, but as I think about it I agree with Playing Catch, an A seems warranted. I know most teams have injuries but it does feels the Brewers have had more than their fair share with having 4 of their top 6 SP hit the IL, plus Urias, Mitchell, & Frelick. It's true Voit & Winker have been awful but they've also nailed some of their offseason acquisitions like Owen Miller, Contreras, Payamps, Peguero, & Miley. Overall they are in 1st place with the 3rd highest playoff odds in the NL, it's hard to ask for much more than that.

Team deserves an A for having this record despite injuries to important guys and a bad lineup.

On pace for 89 wins seems like a B.

We probably need to consider ‘championship caliber’ performance as being an A’ grade. 

We are not the Pirates where being over .500 is a celebration.
