Patricio Aquino kept up Logan Henderson’s Saturday scoreless work, Jadher Areinamo doubled and scored in the 7th inning and Yerlin Rodriguez closed it out impressively. 1-0 Mudcats take the continuation game for a 4-1 series lead.

Sunday’s game will follow.

After Saturday’s cancellation, Nashville hosts Columbus for a series-deciding finale, with RHP Caleb Boushley (4.33 ERA, 1.32 WHIP, 7.5 K/9 in 79 IP) getting the start. Is this CF a Tyrone Taylor’s (7-for-25, 3 HRs) last rehab game before a return to MLB?

RHP Alexander Cornielle (5.17 ERA, 1.34 WHIP, 8.8 K/9 in 47 IP) gets his 2nd start of the week at home against Beloit, with High-A Wisconsin needing a win to even the series 3-3. 1B Alex Hall has 3 homers and 11 RBIs in his last 3 games.

LHP Nate Peterson makes his 1st start (2nd appearance) since return from injury, as Low-A Carolina seeks to polish off a 5-1 home series win over Fayetteville. 3B Luke Adams returns to the lineup looking to escape his recent rut (4-for-last-31 with 4 singles, 4 walks).

Peterson (3 Ks), Adams (BB, SB, run) and Lara (single, SB, run) got the Mudcats off to a nice 2-0 start, but the game was suspended by the 2nd inning, to be completed in the first week of August.

Ouch. Boushley was probably down to his last out, trying to escape the 5th inning with a 5-3 lead. On that 0-2 pitch (his 82nd of the game) with 2 outs, he gave up a 3-run shot to Jhonkensy Noel. Sounds trail 6-5.

Back and forth game in Appleton. 3-3 in the 7th inning. Manager Joe Ayrault was just ejected after a GIDP wiped out a possible big 6th inning for Wisconsin.

Gray with a homer, Mendez and Miller each with an RBI single each. Hall still hot: double, walk, run.

I think the Rattlers have been inspired by Manager Ayrault’s ejection. 3B Ben Metzinger delivers his first homer since May 10, a 3-run shot to give them a 6-3 lead in the 8th inning!

LHP Clayton Andrews seems to have lost his mojo. Arghh! Double, single, pop out, walk. Bases loaded, one out, Sounds clinging to 7-6 lead in the top of the 8th inning.

The Shane Smith to Wisconsin and move Yerlin Rodriguez into the Mudcats Closer role is an unexpectedly uber exciting peripheral wrinkle to this early second half of baseball. As I say that, I can't help but see the classic prospect write-up blabber blabber: "...unranked in all publications." 🤣

Hey hey, Andrews escaped!

He may not have his best stuff, falling behind 2-1 and 3-0 to the next two batters, but he got the first to chase Ball 4 and K’d the latter looking at a strike at the knees. Still holding on 7-6!

The Mudcats have jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead in Game 2. Adams successfully stole SB 21. Lara successfully stole SB 17.

Wake me up in August when they resume play! 😁

Nashville has also entered into a rain delay, leading 7-6 in bottom of the 8th inning. (Call it. Call it. Game over. Series victory. C’mon!).

RHP James Meeker makes his 4th consecutive start, throwing 54-65 pitches in each of his last 3 games. He’ll try to lead AA Biloxi to a 4-2 series win in Pensacola. LF Isaac Collins is back atop the lineup after a 2-homer day yesterday.

My wish was granted: Nashville wins 7-6 as the 9th inning will not be played due to rain. I should really aim higher with my next 2 wishes though.

C Nick Kahle can neither be stopped nor contained. He had a homer and the game-winning RBI double yesterday. His 2-run homer in the 2nd inning today extends Biloxi's early lead to 4-0.

Meeker helps himself escape the 2nd inning. Not sure he'll make it past 4 innings at the current pace though. Shuckers now lead 5-0 in the 3rd inning.

Understandably struggling with the shift in work load, Meeker gave up 3 line drives in the 2nd inning, now 2 solo homers in the 3rd inning. Manager Mike Guerrero will likely need to work some magic with Baker, Vennaro and Brady. 5-2 Shuckers

Meeker did indeed exit after 4 innings, with Zach Vennaro coming in to protect 5-2 lead.

Vennaro lasted 20 pitches, retiring 1 of 5 batters and giving way to Robbie Baker with a 5-3 lead, bases loaded, 1 out.

Baker gave up a grand slam on his 3rd pitch. Shuckers trail 7-6.

Odds of a position player pitching have increased to 50%. Sorta lucky this is a road game.

Vennaro and Baker combined to give up 8 runs in 1 2/3 innings. Ryan Brady came in to finish the 6th inning. Biloxi trails 10-7.

Odds of a position player pitching have increased to 75%.
