Pineiro to Cardinals

Cardinals acquired RHP Joel Pineiro and cash considerations from the Red Sox for a player to be named later.

 

Obviously not a blockbuster, but the Cardinals aren't laying down at all. Maybe Pineiro solves some of their starting pitching woes.

I don't think he's made a start all year... not sure how stretched out he is at this point. It will be interesting to see what role he will play in Saint Louis. They definitely need pitching help - not sure if this is the guy.

He was DFA'd last week sometime, so they must have thought a PTBN was all they could get for him.

After he was DFA'ed, he made 2 starts for Pawtucket. I think the whole plan for him all along was to stretch him out, and see if any team wanted him as a starter, since that's what he's done for most of his career.

Is it just me, or hasn't Piniero sucked for about 5 years now? He should fit in nicely in STL's rotation with Maroth and Reyes.
