Happy Opening Day Eve! With the season finally upon us, we've put together a quick downloadable preview guide for Brewer Fanatic Caretakers, overviewing the roster at each position and sharing our final takeaways from spring camp. 

The Brewers and their fans are ready to put a long offseason behind them as the season finally springs into action. Citi Field, after a one day delay due to rain, will host an Opening Day showdown on Thursday between Freddy Peralta and Jose Quintana.

Pat Murphy says he’s ready to manage.
This was the 65-year-old’s first spring training as a big-league manager. He says this is the right time in his career for the opportunity, as he’s far better equipped now than he was as a younger coach. Murphy was observant during his eight seasons as Craig Counsell’s bench coach, and what he learned during that time helped him broaden his perspective. Despite his reputation as a hard-nosed, old-school baseball guy, Murphy demonstrated a thoughtful and adaptable mindset when talking about strategy during his media sessions. He also said he welcomes information from an analytical front office and plans to incorporate it into his game management.

The rotation outlook hinges heavily on a pair of southpaw prospects.
Corbin Burnes is now a Baltimore Oriole, and Brandon Woodruff will not pitch in 2024, leaving the Brewers without their top two starters of the last four seasons. The Brewers are now lacking traditional starters, but that could change if DL Hall and Robert Gasser establish themselves as reliable rotation arms. Both showed encouraging stuff in Cactus League play. Hall’s calling card is his lively fastball, but he flashed an improved ability to manipulate his slider and has revived the curveball he rarely used out of the Orioles’ bullpen the last two seasons. Gasser racked up whiffs with his deep arsenal, which features three fastballs (two-seam, four-seam, cutter), a sweeping slider, and an improving changeup.

A pair of shuttle relievers could play a major role.
Joel Payamps, Abner Uribe, Trevor Megill, and Elvis Peguero are the leading candidates for high-leverage work as Devin Williams recovers from stress fractures in his back, but expect the Brewers also to receive significant contributions from part-time members of the bullpen. J.B. Bukauskas and Bryan Hudson each have options remaining and will ride the shuttle between the big leagues and Triple-A throughout the year, but they could find themselves in big spots while on the roster. Both pitchers have fine-tuned their arsenals within the past year and looked impressive in camp. Hudson will start the year on the roster, while Bukauskas will open the year in Triple A.

I think our season really depends on out young bats. The rotation isn't going to be great but we should be able to find 5 average (4 era) pitchers with the 8 or 9 candidates. The bullpen will be good but probably not as good as last year with Devin out. The offense is the difference maker if Turang, Ortiz, Frelick, Chorio, and others (Mitchell, Weimer, Black) develop into average or better hitter this team will be in it. If our young guys hit sub 240 we aren't doing anything.
