I don't understand the value of optioning a reliever the manager trusts in high leverage situations because he's not available for one day just to cover a meaningless inning or two in a game that's a blowout.

Koenig pitched three of four days totaling 5 IP and 72 pitches, he’s going to need more than one day off.

There was also no way to know that yesterday was going to be a blowout before the game was played.
