Lead off dub by Luis Castillo to the wall in right CF. The winning run is in scoring position.

Meanwhile,

In Biloxi Carlson gave up a lead-off double in the 8th. He just gave up a single through the gap up the middle into CF. Shuckers trail 2-0 in the 8th.

If we combined the best elements of Shane Smith and Russell Smith that would be a pretty fun pitcher.

Well that RusShane Smith pitched 7 strong innings tonight.

i for one support the Smith piggyback

We actually call that a LHP Shane Smith outing. It's cool. It's new. BUT, it's a thing. (No it isn't)

Looks like a less than stellar outing for young Eniel Cortez.

Did anyone watch DL Hall - or data on his velocity and/or movement. Box stats are ok, but not awesome: 5 hits, 2 runs, 2 walks 5 K in 5 IP. If I don’t fall asleep too early I will try to rewatch his outing.

I'm going to go back and watch his outing. BUT, you can always find his peripherals on Baseball Savant.

Two man ump crew may have missed a call on a Bitonti ground out to 1B. Looked as tho the 1B never stepped on the bag. Maybe should be bases loaded. BUT, that's a two man crew you can't blame them. They have zero angle on that play. They take what it looks like.

Well. Interesting bottom of 9.  After the Castillo double, and DiTuri fly out. Baez reaches on an error. Runners on 2nd and 3rd.  Bitonti hard hit ball to 1B, who apparently may have stepped on the bag, then threw home but no one running.  Mudcats and Bitonti thought he reached on a FC, but umps agreed the first baseman stepped on the bag.  Then Adamczewski grounds up the middle and nice play by their 2B to get him.
On to extras….

Reyes plunked the first batter on the first pitch. He has now K'd consecutive batters on filthy pitches. The last an absolutely gorgeous unhittable curve on the outer black to a lefty. Let's hope he can escape. Men on 1st and 2nd. 10th frame. 2 down.

He does escape. He gets the ground out to 3rd base and Baez takes the force out at 3B. Noice! Let's go Muddies! Let's walk it off baby.

Walk off win for the muddies. My feed went blank. But looks like ground out then sac fly scores Adamczewski. 9-8

shuckers trying to hold on with Yeager pitching the 9th.  One out. Then a 12 pitch at bat results in a walk.

Walling successfully lines out to CF for a sac fly. Adamczewski successfully beats the throw. Charleston tried to challenge the tag. The umps will have none of that. 9-8 WIN.

Ground out to short. Two down. Man on 2B. Full count.

Second walk for Yeager. Making it hard on himself. Two down. Men on 1B and 2B. Mound visit by the team here. Now the pitching coach comes aboard. 3-2 Shuckers clinging to this lead.

That “walk” was a swing called a check swing by the third base ump.  Very close. Looks like he swung. But I’m also very biased

Remember they are asking for field ump calls from behind the mound. I often chuckle at that. Just like at the Mudcats game: they can't possibly see what is actually happening. Hence, and I try to impart this to folks: MiLB stats and results have much much deeper layers. That likely was a check swing strike. Just as I don't think that 1B ever stepped on the bag in Zebulon. These often impact bottom lines. Tonight, they did not, thankfully.

Well, Hall's heater was getting tagged early and often. Three consecutive rips into the OF - a double to the left CF gap. A single to CF. And, a heck of a run down by LF Tyler Black. YEAH BABY! THE OF EXPERIMENT CONTINUES TO GROW LEGS. I am going to keep saying this: the OF is Black's new domain. He can play out there. His athleticism plays. We need to see the arm challenged. He is reading balls well. He is laying off balls that aren't his. I am loving what I am seeing so far.
