Contreras hits a tape measure shot…….wind might be blowing out.

It has been really windy here in the Phoenix area around 17 MPH to the WNW.

I do like Chourio in the leadoff spot over Turang if that is how they end up going.

FanGraphs has league batting order splits going back to 2002 and it’s kind of interesting looking at how the league has approached that spot over the last twenty years.

League Average Leadoff wRC+

2002-07: 93, 93, 98, 99, 97, 99 (climbing towards average)

2008-15: 101, 101, 94, 100, 96, 100, 102, 101 (cromulence mostly achieved)

2016-20: 105, 99, 105, 104, 105 (starting to see some 105’s in there)

2021-24: 107, 103, 111, 108 (lil dip in 2022, but otherwise 105 has been left behind)

It has gotten to the point where in each of the last two years the league average leadoff hitter (111 and 108 wRC+) has been better than the league average clean up hitter (108 and 106 wRC+).

Precisely. Get your best hitters as many ABs as possible.

ST ultimately really means nothing, but man I hope Hoskins can be back to his career norms this year. If he put up a 120 wRC+, 30+ HR season it would be a massive development for the Crew.

You and Rhys Hoskins both feel that way.  Hoskins wants to keep playing so another down year would not help him there much  .    We all want Hoskins to be a lot better and I believe with another season away from recovery we can see Hoskins with a better season.

How has Rule 5 Lefty Connor Thomas looked? I keep seeing impressive Box Scores. But, I am perusing these while cleaning up my forest firebreak. Anyone have any data or thoughts here?

I don't have a problem with that at all. I actually like Yeli at 2 and Contreras at 3 in that case. Turang or Sal at 2 when they are going good wouldnt be bad. That does kind of shrink the lineup but Mitchell and Rhys could be great 4/5 and make that a really good top of the order.
