Video: Nick Mears Is The Breakout Reliever The Brewers Needed

The Brewers always seem to have an arm step up in their bullpen and this year’s no different. While plenty of guys have been solid, Nick Mears has quietly become one the most important arm in the bullpen. Some fans predicted a breakout, no one saw him having numbers this good.He’s been nearly untouchable so far in 2025, with a microscopic ERA and barely letting anyone on base. And it’s not just empty stats—he’s been nails in high leverage moments, getting out of big jams and protecting leads. His path to Milwaukee hasn’t exactly been smooth. He wasn’t drafted, bounced around a few teams, and honestly looked like just another guy at first. But something clicked, and now he’s dropped the curveball that was getting crushed and simplified his approach—just fastballs and sliders. It’s working. In a bullpen full of firepower, Mears has quietly become the steady hand. Outside of Milwaukee, most fans probably still don’t know his name—but if the Brewers make a serious run, he’s going to be a big reason why.

Mears has been amazing, I would guess if he was healthy to start the year he would also be pushing for the league lead in appearances. With Mears, Uribe, Keonig, Megill, and Anderson the back end of the bullpen should be pretty solid, add in Yoho, Ashby, and Hall/Hudson/Payamps/Peguero if they get right and the bullpen should be solid the rest of the way. I really like how Mears explodes of the rubber, I dont remember his delivery being quite the same last year.
