Brewers Minor League Link Report (9/7): Mudcats Win Franchise Finale and Burke Slams Biloxi to Victory

For the week, Nashville and Biloxi were both 4-2 series winners. Wisconsin managed a 3-3 draw in its final series of 2025 and the Carolina Mudcats dropped their final series 4 games to 3.

• SS Jesus Made promoted to AA Biloxi from High-A Wisconsin
• OF/INF Tyler Rodriguez placed on Low-A Carolina’s 60-day injured list

With the Zebulon, North Carolina-based Carolina Mudcats playing their final game as a Minor League Baseball affiliate (given the move to nearby Wilson, NC next year), we’ll run through Sunday’s games in reverse order today.

Making just his second start at the Low-A level, RHP Carlos Carra from Mexico delivered a solid five innings (2 R, 5 H, 1 BB, 6 Ks) of work in Fredericksburg and the offense put up runs in the 4th, 5th and 6th innings to give the team a 6-2 lead before calling on the bullpen.

Batting 8th, C Yannic Walther from Germany was Mr. Clutch in leading the offense, delivering a 2-out, 2-run single for a 2-0 Carolina lead in the 4th inning, then adding an RBI single as part of a 3-run 6th inning.

As he so often does, leadoff OF Josiah Ragsdale spent much of his time on-base (1-for-3, 2 walks, RBI), lifting his season average to .300  in 70 at-bats. 1B Eric Bitonti may not have collected his 20th homer, but he still led the Carolina League with 19 and ended his season with a 3-for-5 game. 2B Luis Lameda also had a 2-for-4 day, including a double for the team’s only extra-base hit.

A 9th inning full count single and walk brought the potential game-tying batter to the plate for the Nationals, but RHP Jose Nova (1 IP, 0 R, 1 K) ended the game and season by inducing an opposite field fly out.

Mudcats’ Extras:

• Walther’s bat helped make up for his early defensive struggles, including a passed ball in the 3rd inning and an errant throw in the 4th inning. He also threw out an attempted basestealer to end the 5th inning when the game was still tight at 3-2.
• LHPs Bjorn Johnson (2 IP, 1 R, 1 K) and Anfernny Reyes (1 IP, 0 R, 1 K) capably handled the middle innings to help the team end its 2025 campaign on a positive note.

The Wisconsin Timber Rattlers’ final game of the 2025 season was perhaps not as bittersweet as Carolina’s and frankly also seemed a bit less interesting without top prospect SS Jesus Made or 2025 first round pick 3B Andrew Fischer in the lineup.

That said, 5,934 fans in South Bend, Indiana still came out to the game, watching Wisconsin starting RHP Tanner Gillis struggle a bit while throwing on 4 days’ rest (2 IP, 3 R, 1 BB, 1 K).

Ground ball double plays ended the Timber Rattlers’ 2nd and 3rd innings, while a SS Luis Pena double also went for naught in the 4th frame.

While Cubs’ starter Kenten Egbert went a whopping 8 2/3 innings, it was essentially a bullpen game for Wisconsin, with 6 pitchers combining to cover 8 innings. An RBI single by OF Luis Castillo with 2 outs in the 9th inning plated Wisconsin’s only run.

Each of LHP Anthony Flores (2 IP, 0 R, 4 Ks) and RHPs Yerlin Rodriguez (1 IP, 0 R, 1 K), Jack Seppings (1 IP, 0 R, 2 Ks) and Jeferson Figueroa (1 IP, 0 R, 2 Ks) delivered scoreless relief, while RHP Aaron Rund ran into difficulty in the 6th inning (1 IP, 2 R, 1 K), with Rodriguez’s benefitting from Castillo’s arm in the 5th inning:

Timber Rattlers’ Extras:

• Wisconsin drew no walks or hit-by-pitches, a rarity for the High-A level. OF Luiyin Alastre produced a 2-for-3 day with 2 singles.
• It was good to see C Andrick Nava back in the lineup after he’d exited Wednesday’s game early.
• I think it’s safe to expect that rehabbing DH Luke Adams (1-for-4, run) will join Made in heading to join the Biloxi Shuckers in Birmingham.

Starting RHP Tyson Hardin (3 IP, 1 R, 3 H, 0 BB, 4 Ks in 51 pitches) retired the first 9 batters in order before opening the 4th inning with 3 singles and an error, with LHP Jesus Broca and 1B Blake Burke then taking control of the contest.

Broca (3 IP, 0 R, 0 H, 0 BB, 4 Ks in 36 pitches) stranded all 3 inherited baserunners to keep the deficit at 1-0, following Hardin’s script to a degree by not allowing any of his 9 batters faced to reach base.

Burke had singled and been caught stealing in the 1st inning, flew out to open the 4th inning, then blasted his 8th homer in just his 32nd game at the AA level, a grand slam with 2 outs in the bottom of the 5th inning.

LHP Raul Alcantara (1 2/3 IP, 0 R, 1 H, 0 BB, 1 K) and RHP Austin Roberts (1 1/3 IP, 0 R, 0 H, 0 BB, 1 K) ensured that the Blue Wahoos never got the potential game-tying batter to the plate over 3 solid relief innings, with some tremendous help from OF Luis Lara:

Shuckers’ Extras:

• OF Bladimir Restituyo (3-for-3, double, SB) and DH Mike Boeve (2-for-4) joined Burke in having multi-hit evenings, while we should credit OF Garrett Spain (1-for-3, SB) for starting the 5th inning rally which culminated in Burke’s slam.
• Earlier on Sunday, the Montgomery Biscuits (and old friends Jadher Areinamo and Gregory Barrios) punched their playoff ticket opposite Biloxi, with the teams set to begin their playoff series at Montomgery on September 16.

Next week’s outlook: The Shuckers will take a 4.5-hour drive north to play six games at White Sox affiliate Birmingham, with action starting on Tuesday.

Via a Sounds’ press release, game details: Berroa Drives in Season-High Four Runs, Sounds Hang on in Extras

Nashville scored in each of the 2nd, 3rd and 4th innings to build a 5-0 lead and was on cruise control behind LHPs Tucker Davidson (4 IP, 0 R, 3 H – all singles, 0 BB, 5 Ks) and Robert Gasser (3 IP, 0 R, 1 H – single, 0 BB, 1 K) before RHP Julian Merryweather reminded us how quickly a lead can vanish.

3B Luis Urias’ audition for a spot on the MLB roster continued with his 100.4mph, 378-foot first pitch homer in the 2nd inning, followed by an HBP to lead off the 4th frame.

MLB 40-man rosteree OF Steward Berroa (2-for-5, HR, 4 RBIs) may have entered the contest with a .479 OPS in 71 Nashville plate appearances, but he appears to be turning the corner.

The Tides homered on consecutive pitches against Merryweather in the bottom of the 8th inning, part of 5 hits (3 homers, double, single) amongst 6 batters faced, with RHP Blake Holub called into urgent relief and conceding a double and walk before earning a strikeout to keep the lead at 6-5.

OF Tyler Black (1-for-3, double, 3 walks) walked and stole his 2nd and 3rd bases of the game with 1 out in the top of the 9th inning, but was stranded before LHP Brian Fitzpatrick allowed the game-tying run without conceding a hit in the bottom half of frame.

Thankfully each of SS Freddy Zamora, Berroa and OF Brandon Lockridge (1-for-4, 2 walks, RBI) delivered RBI singles in the 10th inning, the latter two with 2 outs.

Sounds’ Extras:

• LHP Nate Peterson’s AAA debut was something of a dramatic one, walking a batter to bring two potential game-tying batters to the plate in front of 4,111 road fans, but he induced a ground out and finished the game with a full count strikeout, his second of the inning.
• 1B Ernesto Martinez Jr. extended his hitting streak to 7 games with a 6th inning single, while also walking and scoring in the 10th inning.

Next week’s outlook: Nashville (76-60) returns home to take on Braves’ affiliate Gwinnett (61-77) for six games, commencing on Tuesday.
