Does it ever not rain in Biloxi?

Tropical storm Arthur is causing the issue with rain right now. Normal summer weather should be back this week

I think Akil Baddoo might have just torn his Achilles

For those with an MiLB.TV subscription that allows you to view archived games, go to the 03:18:00 hour/minute mark here.

With the bases loaded for Nashville and no one out in the top of the 8th, Sounds up 8-3, Baddoo ripped a ball down the right-field line into the corner, clearing the bases for an 11-3 lead. Keep in mind that in the 4th inning, Baddoo blasted a 425-foot grand slam to center field, so the 8th inning double gave him seven RBI on the night. It was his 2nd grand slam of the current series.

On the play, as Baddoo rounded 2nd and was on his way to attempt to reach 3rd, he pulled up lame about four steps past second. Though Baddoo remained on his two legs the entire time, never collapsing to the ground, it was very clear that Baddoo was aware of the seriousness of the injury, and he did a two-fisted slam of his batting helmet to the ground, which snapped off the face protector on impact. Baddoo was touching his left leg in the calf/Achilles area.

Trainer Jeff Paxson and Manager Rick Sweet came out, and Baddoo was able to walk ever-so-gingerly towards the dugout. When he reached the top step of the dugout, at that point Baddoo had to be given assistance as to avoid his leg touching the steps or dugout floor. Akil has such an expression-filled face at all times, best seen during happier times (see the smiling image in the game summary linked below), so as you can imagine, the video caught all of his facial concerns throughout the incident.

Here's the video of the play, and just as the camera cuts from Baddoo, you can catch a glimpse of him reaching down. You won't see more than that in the brief clip.

Baddoo had been activated from the Brewers 60-day IL after missing time with a significant quadriceps strain. He was reinstated on May 24 and optioned to Triple-A Nashville once his rehab assignment had completed.

It's too early to say definitively it's an Achilles injury, but it's definitely something in the calf area. The always very detailed Nashville site game summary makes no mention of the injury, nor Baddoo's exit, but that's not unusual, you'll rarely if ever see any kind of specific injury speculation in such reports.

On a much-less-important aspect of the play, the umpires goofed up the situation and had called time at some point, as Memphis respectfully but unsuccessfully argued that the runner replacing Baddoo (Greg Jones) should not matter, that Baddoo would have been out as not being on any bag when time was called. Nashville cruised to a 17-3 final score.

Wishing Akil a best possible scenario.

Running out of words to describe this team’s minor-league system. I’ve been following the team’s farm’s systems for over half a century (sporting news back in the day) and I’ve never seen it more full of real prospects, and on both sides of the ball.

’Just Baseball’ is right — this system is twice as good as any in the game.

I feel terrible. Akil is such a good guy and it's been a few tough seasons since he had his rookie breakout season. Even this year started on the 60 Day IL. He was back. He was playing, and now he's playing really well. Hopefully it's something that just scared him, maybe a shock or something that ran up his leg and he wasn't sure what happened. But that's probably a bit naive. My first thought was the knee just because his lower leg kind of flailed around. It could have been a torn calf, or as others have guessed, a torn Achilles. Hoping for the best!!

Hopefully. Wilken game tonight really finally gets him started

Why is this the first I have heard that all of this rain is being caused by a Tropical Storm/Depression/ Wave or whatever?

Glad they are finally playing again today.   Come on Shuckers!
