The Milwaukee Brewers are going conventional when it comes to their 26-man postseason roster.

While some teams carry an extra position player or two in the early rounds of the playoffs, the Brewers split their 26-man roster evenly with 13 pitchers and 13 position players for the NL Division Series against the San Diego Padres.

The teams open the best-of-five series Saturday with Brewers right-hander Jacob Misiorowski facing Padres left-hander Robbie Ray. First pitch is 7:30 p.m.

Perhaps the only surprising inclusion was left-hander Kyle Harrison, whose struggles knocked him out of the starting rotation. But he showed the Brewers enough in the final two weeks of the regular season in a relief role to be on the playoff roster. First baseman Andrew Vaughn had been activated from the 10-day injured list after he dealt with an illness at the end of the regular season.

13 pitchers leads me to believe we’ll be looking at short leashes and short outings for anyone not named Misiorowski or Henderson.

A lot of “give me 7-10 outs.”

I would've included Naylor and dropped Harrison, but it's a defensible unit.  I hope Harrison squares himself up and makes me look short sighted.

Also, I held out hope I'd be named to the team, so my exclusion has me gutted.

LFG!!!!!

Good point. This seems right.

And it might especially make sense if you're expecting a lot of close games where you're protecting small leads or trying to force the Padres to defend their own one- or two-run leads for 5 and 6 innings.

You're going to churn through arms fast if you're pulling everyone at the first sign of trouble. I usually default to "offensive flexibility" in terms of postseason roster construction. But this is a "run prevention" roster, and it's hard to argue much with that approach.
