8/6/2004: Brewers (Sheets) @ Marlins (Burnett)

Great inning, but that's 96 pitches for Big Ben. I know it's a close game and he's pitching well, but if he gets another inning he's going to be well over 100 on a hot/humid day in which he threw 29 pitches in a very high-stress inning.

This is a tough call, but I'd opt for removing him now. He *could* pitch another inning or even two, and that might not have any negative effect on him at all, but I've just got to think that this has been an awfully tough outing for him already.

What do you guys think?

I think they need to pull Sheets. It's obvious to me he's gonna need some strength to kick some third baseman's... (edited for G audience).

I know I'd take a swing at him after the game.

Bill, Ben is our horse. And he stepped up big time that last inning. Let Ben make another statement in the next inning. Let him shame his mates. One more inning, then send Ben to the hotel early.

Bill, Ben is our horse.

I know, that's why I don't want him to get injured. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif

It's a tough call.

I still don't understand why he's wearing a sweatshirt, BTW.

Chad Moeller's injury according to Uecker is a sprained ankle, x-rays negative, and he is listed as day-to-day.

That's good news, but it doesn't tell us that much about how long he'll be out. Hopefully not at all! http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif

Watching Ben work tonight reminds me of a day I had at work back when I was 20 working for a concrete wall company.

We were stripping a wall, it was hot, it was humid. We were in the basement, throwing out 90 pound wall forms, and it had to be over 100 degrees in there. We had this old pothead working for us, named Bob. He was high as a kite, and wearing, yep, a hooded sweatshirt. You could literally feel the heat rolling off of him from 10 feet away. So the guy is 47, and I'm worried, and I finally said "Bob, why don't you take off the sweatshirt?"

And he said

"WHY DONT YOU WORRY ABOUT YOUR ******SELF! SOME PEOPLES GOT BODY TEMPATURES DIFF'RENT THAN OTHER PEOPLE!"

That's what Ben looks like out there tonight.

EDIT: FWIW, it was funnier in person, because he only had 6 teeth.

Considering that the obvious thing would be to take Ben out after this inning, I fearlessly predict that he will face 2 or 3 batters in the 7th. Yost wouldn't have it any other way. Plus he's crusin now, right?

that concrete story is hilarious

Ben 1-2-3 YAY!

LOL, RoCo... that's great. The funniest part is that I actually *could* picture Big Ben saying that. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif

So now he's at 107 pitches. That's got to be enough, doesn't it?

Although Yost surprises me regularly, my guess is that he would have pinch hit for Sheets in the top of the inning if the Brewers had put some guys on base. They didn't, so let him pitch the top of this inning, then lead off with a pinch hitter in the top of the 7th.

True, didn't realize he was gonna be up. Thank goodness he was or I bet he'da gone back out there. I mean we have to conserve our pinch hitters right?

FYI, Childers no-no lasted 6 1/3 innings. He gave up a walk, then a run-scoring double. Indy now down 1-0 into the 9th. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/eyes.gif

And a solid effort by Ben, I retract my "what's up with Sheets" statement. Obviously we just need a new defense. And by defense I mean 3B. and by 3B I mean anyone besides Wes Helms. And by anyone besides Wes Helms I mean even Trent #*&^%$ Durrington.

Especially because of the age (but I have more teeth).

Hey we have an election coming up down here and the question the media is asking all the old politians is 'did you ever smoke the stuff'. And all the pollies say 'yeah, of course, whatta you think'. Only one guy said 'I did not inhale'. Then the media started asking 'did you smoke it; did you inhale'. The pollies just roll their eyes and walk away with a big smile.

Ben should go one more inning.

I suppose a 4-0 game with Ben going 8 innings would have been a wee bit boring. This game is exciting now. We have a real battle going on.

sorry, but I'll take a 4-0 lead in the 8th over a 4-4 "exciting" game any day when it comes to the Brewers

Has anybody else notice how Jim Powell is ripping on the Marlin's official scorer? It's kind of funny at times

So is Schroeder. I agree with both of them. If a guy trips and falls down, why is it *not* an error? Just because he didn't muff the ball doesn't mean he shouldn't have made the play.

Nice job by Adams!

btw, this is kind of fun doing the game thread.

Can you tell my Brewer Fan wife (who usually b.s.'s my way through the games with me) is gone for the weekend?
