Not his best, but not bad for Adams. The hit batsman was really the only mistake, as the two base hits came on a grounder and a little blooper. He had some issues controlling his slider, but he got out of it.

I just don't get Yost's placement of Bennett above Adams on the "key situations" depth chart. His handling of the bullpen in this game has been horrible. Granted, the guys didn't do the job... but Nedley didn't set them up to succeed, either.

There's enough blame to go around if they end up dropping this one.

C'mon, offense. Don't suck.

Unless Kolb proves he's a 2 inning guy, and indications are he is not really able to do that right now. (They say he's healthy, but you wonder), he's not going to come in to start the 8th. I wouldn't mind seeing a general change from the 9th inning only strategy, but you need a pitcher whose shoulder is a little more stable than Kolb's is rumored to be.

However, it's been a real long time since any manager has used a strategy where his "ace" reliver comes in and is not set up to get the 27th out of a game if he is pitiching effectively.

I would love to be able to bring my closer in the 8th at times, but that's to pitch him 2 innings, not to have someone else get the 27th out

I don't understand how K-Rod's arm doesn't explode on every slider/curveball. He is defying physics and biology and every other law of nature. It's unnatural, I tell ya'. I think he's a mutant or something.

Nice hit, Griever. I thought you only tried to walk, though, and were overmatched by studly pitchers?

Guess I was mistaken. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif

Another thought on the bullpen. That 18 pitch walk ended up being very expensive. If it's a 6 pitch walk and Vizcaino has 11 pitches, he tosses the 8th, IMHO. At 23 pitches, it;'s a defendable move not to bring Luis back out.

I would have brought him in in the 8th, but not with the intention of letting him go two innings. I would have wanted Kolb to pitch to Vlad, Anderson, and Guillen, and then let some other scrub finish off the bottom of the order in the 9th.

Exactly, diskono. That's way too progressive for any manager right now, however, much less Nedley.

Nice walk, Counsell!!! You da' man.

Podzilla... you need to be the man, here. You need to be the man.

So go be the man.

Thank you.

So where does this one rank in the most frustrating losses of 2004 list? I'm not very objective right now, but I'll put it right up at the top. We could've, would've, SHOULD'VE won... ridiculous bullpen management and terrible relief pitching by old unreliable, Jeff Bennett, combined to make this one of the most frustrating losses in a while.

Juuuuunnnnnnnnniiiiooooorrrrrrr? Dude, bases are loaded with one out, come on! Thats it! Trade him! Oh, thats right he will be, or will he be? Still, this team is fun to watch, listen or to text read the game.

Still.... to pull two wins out of the Angels has to be marked as a big victory of sorts. If this game went to extra frames, perhaps the only victory we could secure, would be Wisconsin pulling ahead of California on cheese consumption based on the brewerfan meal of choice at late night.
