    Samurai, that was a great post and I agree with everything you said. Though I would argue it is traditional. 19 MLB teams over the course of their history have named team captains, with the Red Sox and the Yankees, two of the most traditional teams, having the most. It's a way to honor a franchise icon and the leader in the clubhouse, of which Yelich is both.

    People complain about the Brewer announcers but imagine the poor Oriole fans who have to listen to Ben McDonald every game.

    I saw a stat on MLB Network that he's the only player in baseball that's in the 95th percentile or higher in both Hard-Hit % and Chase %

    Blake's first at bat in Game 1 of the NLDS isn't ever brought up, but I think it's a big reason the Brewers won that series. Matthew Boyd is starting on short rest and laboring, already giving up three runs, but there's two out with runners on 1st and 2nd. Perkins comes up with an 11 pitch at bat that ends with a base hit up the middle to score a run. Boyd is then pulled after only pitching two thirds of an inning, leaving the Cubs behind the 8 ball pitching wise for the rest of the series. The Brewers then score two more in the inning and three more next inning off of Soroka and have a 6-1 lead after one and a 9-1 lead after two. If Perkins makes an out it's only a 3-1 game with eight innings to go and who knows if Boyd settles in and gives the Cubs some innings.

    I wonder if, instead of air-mailing a throw into left field, Bauers had just taken the out at first, whether McCullers would still be on the team today.

    Phillies up on the Dodgers 8-4 in the 7th. If both scores hold the Brewers would move into the 1 seed and have the best record in baseball.

    Mitchell took five balls, should have walked twice, but I guess it's a good thing the umps gifted the Marlins two strikes.

    The NHL pauses their season during the Winter Olympics, so I don't see a big deal about MLB doing the same thing. That said, the Olympic baseball tournament will only be seven days long and during the week that's normally All Star week. Just skip the All Star Game in 2028, extend the break from four days to seven or eight and you can send all the stars to play in the Olympics with no major interruption to the schedule.

    Just awful defense this whole inning, giving up two unearned runs and forcing Drohan to get six outs in one inning in a game they needed him to go deep to save the bullpen for a doubleheader tomorrow.

    Contreras is so bad at challenges. Strike 3 called a ball and he doesn't challenge, next pitch is an actual ball and he challenges that.

    Royce Lewis was optioned to AAA by the Twins after a terrible start to the season. It's a bit crazy how much his career trajectory looks pretty close to Vaughn's. Former #1 pick, a few decent seasons but just couldn't get anything going this year. Could be worth looking at as another reclamation project.
