Tom Haudricourt has a new book out tomorrow, I believe

Haudricourt dedicated the book to his wife, Trish, and enlisted longtime Brewers radio announcer Bob Uecker to write the forward.

"I made sure that Uecker's name would be bigger than mine on the cover," Haudricourt said. "I'm no dummy. That was my idea. I showed it to Ueck and said 'Look, Bob, your name is bigger,' and he looked at it and said 'As it should be.'"

Happened to hear him plug it on Homer's show this afternoon. Sounds delicious! http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/happy.gif

Where Have You Gone, '82 Brewers?

The Peter Gammons of Milwaukee media. Bet he'll have some nice, slobbering bouquets for Mr. Selig and any other representative of management. (Sorry for the negativity, but he pulls his punches so much that it makes this Web site all the more relevant and vital to a fan wanting to explore the real goings-on of the team, and not just Dear Leader Melvin's pronouncements.)

Given the lack of Brewers reading out there, I will pick it up. Although it will likely lack some of the (http://static.yuku.com/v2//domainskins/bypass/img/smileys/eek.gif) stories Tom may have, as he won't want to burn any bridges while he's still on the beat.

Well, now that I actually read the article after commenting (like BrettAC), it actually does sound like there'd be a lot in there worth checking out. Off to Amazon I go.

Hardcover, too...nice.

They also found one of Rollie Fingers' Fireman of the Year award in the basement....

And according to Matt Vasgersian "the Lindberg baby remains" (<- actual quote, he got into a lot of trouble for that)

Haudricourt has been plugging his book to death on WTMJ. Give it a rest Tom. How about some insight on this year's team, like what's the latest on Sheets?

As for his book, I prefer my personal memories of that team.

I think Tom has been very negative in the past (often reflective of the way the team is playing) but I'm confused why people bash him for that fact while others cite the idea that he "pulls punches." Not to turn this into a discussion about the merits of the Brewers coverage, because I know that's been tackled before, but I think he's a colorful writer (leagues ahead of Rick Braun, IMO) who knows a great deal about the team and does his best to balance his own thoughts with what's fair. I'm no apologist, but I think people sometimes fail to see how good of a writer Haudricourt can be.

I'll be reading the book for sure. There was another book not long ago ... I think it was called "If You Want To Have Fun, Go Someplace Else" by one of the former media relations people. It wasn't very complimentary of Bud Selig, if I recall ... don't know if it's still around. It had a nearly identical format, with vignettes focusing on each player and some chapters saved for the big moments of the 1982 season. It almost sounds identical to this book, with perhaps a greater focus on the one season.

This piece of information instantly making Vasgersian my favorite announcer of any sort.

Not to get into the merits, or lack thereof, of the Brewers' house scribe, but I must defend Rick Braun, whom I think highly of and not merely because of his last name. He gives a very prosaic, exact account of the game and I look forward to his straightforward reports, stripped of cliche and fawning.
