Embed a video

I looked around and I can't find anything in the FAQ or a thread about how people do this. I also tried a couple of times but couldn't get it to work. How does one do this?

If you're trying to post a video from YouTube, all you need to do is copy the code labeled 'Embed' (just to the right of the video and under the tags) and paste that into your post.

Ahh. It doesn't automatically accept HTML code. You have to click the upper right "HTML" button while adding the reply. Then paste the code and it works.

Adding this for future reference.

An easy way is to just hit the button on your toolbar that says "insert flash" and paste the embed code from YouTube in there.

Had the same question the other night and just googled "post YouTube yuku" to get the answer.

Does one have to be a subscriber to make this work? The embed box next to the video I would like to display says "embedding disabled by request."

(And how much crap email will I get if I subscribe to youtube?)

Remember: the Brewers never panic like you do.

Shouldn't, no. Is it possible the owner of that video can disable embedding?

Yes, it is an option that you can select when you post a video on YouTube, to disable embedding.

I would have liked to include this in the Usability FAQ, but being on dialup, it's not easy for me to test. With help, I can do that, though. How does this look?
How do I put a YouTube video into my posts?

  1. Copy the YouTube code labeled "embed".
  2. Click on the "Insert Flash" button in the post editor's tool bar.
  3. Paste in the embed code and click OK.
If someone could help by offering additions or adjustments so the directions can cover flash videos from sites other than YouTube, that'd be cool.

In the meantime, I'll add this thread to the "Where can I ask questions?" section of the FAQ.

That’s the only thing Chicago’s good for: to tell people where Wisconsin is.
