SHOUSE SIGNS ONE-YEAR CONTRACT

Reliever Avoids Arbitration

MILWAUKEE - The Milwaukee Brewers today signed LHP Brian

Shouse to a one-year contract, avoiding arbitration.

Shouse, 39, went 1-1 with a 3.02 ERA and 1 save in a

career-high 73 relief appearances for the Brewers last season. He was

able to strand 60 of 78 inherited runners (76.9%). Shouse made 25

consecutive appearances without allowing an earned run from June 6 to

August 5, covering 21.1 innings. He was named Brewers Pitcher of the

Month for August.

With the signing of Shouse, the Brewers now have four

players eligible for arbitration. Those players are SS J.J. Hardy

(.277, 26hr, 80rbi), RHP Dave Bush (12-10, 5.12), LHP Chris Capuano

(5-12, 5.10) and RHP Claudio Vargas (11-6, 5.09).

-I used to have a neat-o signature, but it got erased.

Is our horrid infield D going to result in some cost-savings in terms of Bush & Cappy? I know the arbitration system uses a lot of the counting stats to determine player rank/status.

Bush very likely. Capuano is hard to predict. He got a decent 1st year contract and still has All Star on his resume, so he could get another $2 million per or his 13 game non-winning streak might keep his raise down a lot.

Wonderful news.

Only one problem... its stuck in my head now...
