  1. I echo Al's comment as well.... Also, I would have liked to see what Pember and Lee could have done with a major league shot, but I understand the reasons for their release.
  2. There are some, check out the VSL and DSL roster pages here at Brewerfan to see who didn't get voted off the island.
  3. I'm currently not storing stats for each game, so what you described isn't possible. I'm only storing one record for player per team per season. Regarding the source code, i'm going to probably keep the lid on it for the time being. Maybe i'll draw up an architectural diagram and put it online so those who are curious can see it. It's actually a better representative of how the site operates than the source code itself (considering there are 738 classes, several XML config files and countless JSP pages one would have to wade through).

  5. Regarding the ingore feature: "shewolf2001 posted: other boards have a great feature which lets you ignore users.. this is akin to killfiles on usenet... this is a great way to keep people happy that don't like other people without placing judgement duties on admins, individual users can choose to ignore other users and their posts don't appear.... also similar to ignoring people on yahoo and ICQ etc I don't believe in banning people or censorship.... everyone has different levels of tolerance and different lines.. this puts the power in the hands of the individual users... they choose who they would like to read and who they don't want to read... it is a simple solution that avoids huge amounts of debate over what is and is not acceptable... moderating or screening people's posts is also extremely time consuming..." "SarahStar reply: I suspect that ignore would be just as problematic to implement as ban--unless the problem user didn't catch on and so kept posting with the old user name. This could be dangerous for Admins and mods--they'd need to be warned not to ignore users so that they could watch for TOU violations. I've also always been a big fan of just skipping over the posts if you really don't want to read them." Sounds like they're not high on the idea, David... I agree that this should be a feature as well tho. I personally wouldn't use it, but I understand why others would...
  6. I think polling on the home page is a very good idea.... However, the home page is getting to the point where it's becoming overloaded with information (or maybe just not laid out in a manner that is condusive to showing massive amounts of info). WARNING: TECHNICAL DETAILS FOLLOW The overall goal for the home page is to turn it into a portal (like my.yahoo.com) where users can pick the portlets they want to see, can configure them (let's say you only want to see the 1 newest daily brew and the 5 newest transactions, but only transactions involving MLB and AAA). This website is programmed in Java, and I leverage some Java frameworks that allow me to develop things quickly (like reading and writing from the database, page flow, logging...etc). Sun Microsystems has just released the "Portlet 1.0" spec. Which basically means that if I adhere to certain "standards" while developing the portlets you see on the home page, other people will come along and write the code that allows the user to configure those portlets (which saves a lot of time, and allows the site to basically be upgraded by other developers while I sit back and do nothing). The problem is, it's going to take a few months for people to develop the framework, while there's already a framework out there that doesn't adhere to the new standard. (Analogy: I could record something in Beta now, or record it in VHS later). I'm leaning towards waiting, which means I'm not going to really want to touch the home page for a few months. END NON-TECHNICAL SPEAK So basically, yeah, i'll get around to it http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  7. As the season winds down, i'll be looking for new features to implement here at Brewerfan.net.... I'd like to keep this thread around so I can have sort of a checklist on items i'll be working on, and a way to keep everyone notified on progress on them..... So please, if you have any ideas, submit them here and i'll add them to the list. Prerequesites define issues that need to be addressed before work on the feature can begin. Difficulty rankes the item on a scale of 1-10 (with 10 being the highest). ** NOTE: No suggestions for the message boards themselves, please. I don't have the ability to modify any source for EZBoard software. (It's hosted by EZBoard). PHOTO GALLERY description: browsable online gallery of digital photos prerequisites: Server with more space difficulty: 3 % complete: 0 CUSTOMIZABLE HOME PAGE (Portal/Portlets) descirption: allow the user to pick what content they want to view on the home page. 8. http://www.publicrelations.nu/images/pat.jpg I agree... The Link Reports along with the Power 50 and our draft coverage are three of the most crucial elements of the site... I can honestly say that link reports have created minor league fans who otherwise wouldn't have cared, and that's huge.

  18. It's easy to sit back and say that you welcome the Cubs fans cash if you don't attend one of the Cubs/Brewers Miller Park games. However, once you do, pure emotion takes over. I know, because I used to think that way, and then last night I attended my first Cubs/Brewers Milwaukee game. There were about 7 Brewers fans in our section.
  19. Me and the wife were at the game, and the amount of Cubs fans made me feel sick to my stomach. At least I got to see Sammy strike out twice, and Richie go deep after a large contingent of fans yell "Sexson Sucks!". At least they haven't won a league pennant since 1945. We'll always have that.
  20. SportsTicker Game Preview: Chicago Cubs (74-67) at Milwaukee (62-7http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/glasses.gif 7:05 pm EDT ---------------------------------------------------------------- MILWAUKEE (Ticker) -- Mark Prior tries to extend his career-high winning streak to seven games Saturday night as the Chicago Cubs continue a three-game series with the Milwaukee Brewers. Prior (14-5, 2.36 ERA) has not lost since returning from the disabled list on August 4. Before beating San Diego on August 5, Prior had lost his previous three decisions. In his last six starts, Prior has yielded just three runs and 26 hits in 47 innings. The righthander, who turns 23 on Sunday also has recorded 43 strikeouts and issued just seven walks. Prior's latest win was Monday against the St. Louis Cardinals, when he allowed five hits and struck out eight in eight innings of a 7-0 victory. The win came after the start of the game was delayed over four hours by rain. Prior is 1-1 with a 3.00 ERA in four lifetime starts vs. the Brewers. Milwaukee's Matt Kinney (10-9, 4.74) has won three straight decisions and is 4-1 with a 3.27 ERA in his last seven starts. Kinney extended his winning streak with last Saturday's win at Wrigley Field, where he allowed five runs and seven hits in 7 1/3 innings. Chicago has won five of its last six games after Friday's 4-2 victory. Slugger Sammy Sosa hit a two-run homer and Juan Cruz pitched 6 2/3 innings as the Cubs remained one half-game behind the first-place Houston Astros in the National League Central. In Milwaukee's third loss in 17 games, rookie Scott Podsednik scored both runs.

  23. SportsTicker Game Preview: Chicago Cubs (73-67) at Milwaukee (62-77) 8:05 pm EDT ---------------------------------------------------------------- MILWAUKEE (Ticker) -- The Chicago Cubs seek their fourth straight victory and possibly move into first place in the National League Central Division when they open a weekend series against the Milwaukee Brewers on Friday at Miller Park. The Cubs took four of five from the St. Louis Cardinals to move within one-half game of the Houston Astros in the NL Central and move one-half game ahead of the Cardinals. Chicago won the series finale on Thursday, 7-6, despite the ejection of Sammy Sosa in the third inning for arguing after he was called out on strikes. Tony Womack produced the go-ahead run with a one-out single in the seventh. Juan Cruz (1-5, 5.40 ERA) will make his fourth start and 22nd appearance of the season for the Cubs. On Sunday, he allowed two runs and six hits in 5 1/3 innings in a 2-0 setback vs. Milwaukee. Cruz is 0-2 with a 5.79 ERA in three games against the Brewers this season. In six career games, he is 0-3 with a 4.15 ERA in six games, including two starts, against them. Milwaukee has won 14 of its last 16 games, including the final two contests of a three-game set against Cincinnati. In Wednesday's 9-6 triumph, Brady Clark fell just a single shy of the cycle, scored four times and drove in two runs. Ben Sheets (10-11, 4.27) is 0-4 in six games since beating the New York Mets on July 29. On Friday, he lost to the Cubs at Wrigley Field, 4-2, giving up three runs and 11 hits in seven innings. Sheets is 6-1 with a 2.97 ERA in nine career games against the Cubs.
  24. I'm surprised Bausher didn't fare better, considering he has a "major league arm".
