  1. I would say he does move to AAA with the rest of the squad. Jenkins's contract runs out in 2004. So if they can, they will, assuming there are no outside influences (trades, FA)
  2. [ Jose- I like moving Nelson up. My post was questioning sending down DJ. I thought the younger Gemoll would be a good fit, as he can handle 1B (replacing Nelson), has fewer walks than Clark in more AB, and is younger. Plus Huntsville is down to only 2 regular OF. ] Brad was actually playing LF for HD.
  3. Well, at least DJ will be an adequate replacement for Nelson in Adelanto. He really seemed to thrive in Mavs Stadium, as his numbers were absolutely insane there. Tough to see their only (currently) decent starter get lifted to Huntsville. Very happy for Nolasco, but yow.... Hopefully they'll get Sarfate.
  4. Yeah, we're like training wheels for big league media pressure http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  5. Wow, talk about night and day. Great assumption, bork.
  6. Well, weight's not nearly as important as body-fat percentage.... And it's arguable that it's much more important for position players to be more compact than pitchers. What's important for Dana is to see how he holds up over a full season of ball next year. I really don't think there's much reason to be concerned. Speaking of Dana, any reason as to why they're having him close out games? Are they just trying to get his work in any way they can, or are they slotting him as a closer?
  7. I've got an inquiry through other channels on Fermaint, Diggins, Murray, Wilhelmsen and Jones. I'll post what I receive....
  8. [ The transaction wire reports that Bill Hall has been promoted to Milwaukee. ] This is being discussed over in the Major League forum: pub123.ezboard.com/fbrewe...3692.topic
  9. [ Brain, do you have Nolasco's splits as a starter? I seem to remember his ERA being around 7 before he became a starter and now he's below 5.50. He seems to be their most consistent starter right now. ] 'fraid not... All I have is home/road, left/right, and situational.
  10. Wow, that's an amazing performance by Dave Nolasco, considering it came @ High Desert. In case we were wondering how the splits are effecting our pitching staff: HOME PITCHER W L ERA G SV IP H R ER BB SO X Robinson, Jeff 1 0 0.90 3 1 10.0 10 1 1 1 10 X Schaub, Greg 0 0 1.35 3 0 6.2 7 1 1 4 7 Backsmeyer, Justin 0 1 4.20 16 2 30.0 28 14 14 6 27 Gold, J.M. 1 0 4.91 3 0 7.1 4 4 4 2 9 Nolasco, Dave 2 2 5.07 12 0 49.2 57 34 28 19 40 Stavros, Tony 1 0 5.24 16 0 34.1 41 22 20 19 39 Bystrowski, Bobby 0 2 5.89 17 6 18.1 15 12 12 9 19 Hall, Dan 5 5 5.93 11 0 57.2 65 43 38 22 45 Kolb, Dan 3 5 6.29 15 0 83.0 100 68 58 29 53 *Hundley, Jeff 0 1 6.57 9 0 12.1 16 10 9 6 13 *Petty, Chad 0 2 7.66 4 0 22.1 33 23 19 5 10 Dean, Aaron 5 4 7.75 14 0 36.0 46 32 31 18 34 X Ray, Ken 0 0 8.22 3 0 7.2 14 8 7 4 10 *Gordon, Justin 1 0 8.26 14 4 28.1 38 31 26 26 27 X*Mazone, Brian 0 4 9.44 8 0 34.1 60 40 36 16 26 *Smart, Pete 0 2 10.24 2 0 9.2 11 11 11 5 8 Saenz, Chris 1 5 11.52 7 0 27.1 41 36 35 12 29 *Marx, Tommy 0 0 25.71 7 0 7.0 16 20 20 12 2 ROAD PITCHER W L ERA G SV IP H R ER BB SO X Schaub, Greg 0 1 2.53 5 0 10.2 12 3 3 5 14 *Hundley, Jeff 0 0 3.00 8 1 15.0 9 5 5 6 13 X Robinson, Jeff 0 1 3.00 4 0 15.0 16 7 5 8 10 *Gordon, Justin 0 3 3.71 12 0 34.0 33 20 14 16 26 Dean, Aaron 0 0 4.61 11 1 27.1 25 16 14 18 16 Saenz, Chris 5 3 4.73 12 0 59.0 52 34 31 31 62 Kolb, Dan 0 2 5.14 4 0 21.0 26 12 12 8 20 Nolasco, Dave 1 3 6.03 9 0 31.1 46 22 21 9 23 Stavros, Tony 1 2 6.23 14 1 21.2 25 16 15 11 25 Bystrowski, Bobby 0 2 6.38 17 5 18.1 21 13 13 7 8 Gold, J.M. 0 0 7.00 4 0 9.0 13 9 7 3 4 X Ray, Ken 1 1 7.11 4 0 6.1 8 5 5 2 8 Backsmeyer, Justin 1 6 7.40 12 2 20.2 27 20 17 11 16 *Smart, Pete 1 1 8.03 3 0 12.1 22 11 11 4 15 Hall, Dan 1 4 8.10 8 0 36.2 57 41 33 17 18 *Petty, Chad 0 4 8.18 5 0 22.0 30 22 20 10 20 X*Mazone, Brian 0 3 9.12 5 0 24.2 37 26 25 11 23 *Marx, Tommy 0 0 13.50 3 0 2.0 4 5 3 4 2
  11. Trying to unravel the Jason Shelley mystery a little further: 2001 - He was on the Cook County Cougars roster 2000 - He was with Williamsport of the NY-Penn league
  12. Another interesting aside on this transaction... Chris Simonsen, a former UW pitching prospect and Brewers organizational pitcher, is the pitching coach for the Jackson Senators. Simonsen had put up stellar numbers and had made it to the California League. I'm not sure if he retired due to injury or performance, but it's nice to see he still has a career in baseball.

  14. Wow, David. That's definately the best recap i've seen all year.... Great job!
  15. Brendan Donnelly was a great find out of the Indy Leagues.... Brian Tollberg (former Brewer Draftee) was plucked out of the same league Shelley's from and did well for a year... Maybe Shelley can come out and give us some "insurance" for our rotation of the future. Small sample size, I know... but you gotta realize this guy as WAY hungry.
  16. He's a reliver tho.... seems weird to spend your first round draft pick on a guy who will never start.
  17. I don't think there's any chance we'll see Weeks play any 2003 baseball. Maybe they'd be able to shuffle him off to an instructional league in fall or winter ball or something, but I think at this point, this season's a lost cause. As long as he doesn't attend class this fall, I'm not going to start worrying.
  18. Just got back from the Beloit game... first the on-the-field action: - Gwynn made a specatular diving catch to end an inning... Looks like his defense is what it's cracked up to be. - Fielder hustled nicely on a double.... For a big fella, he's not to slow. He took a bad route on a foul ball and missed coming up with it.... But hey, he swings the bat enough to make up for it, and those are the kind of things he'll be ironing out in the minors. - Parra looked excellent on the mound... Fooled a lot of hitters. - Mario Mendez is tiny, holy cow. now the off-the-field-action: Turns out, Ulice Payne and Jack Z were in attendance tonight. Patrick astutely spotted him, and BlazinWings rushed down with a t-shirt to give him. Ulice (it seemed) brushed off Chris and said he had some business to take care of and he'd be right back... He announced that the Snappers will be taking on the T-Rattlers in Miller Park for $5, and free parking. (not sure which night it was, but we'll be reporting it). Ulice was true to his word, and Chris presented him with a t-shirt. Not only did Ulice pose with a brewerfan t-shirt (we'll get the picture posted later), he remarked on how him and Melvin read the site and how much they appreciate the site. He also gave Chris his business card, and mentioned something about if he needed tickets sometime... I was taking in the fireworks (post-game fireworks were excellent by the way), so I wasn't aware of what was going on. On the walk out, we spotted Ulice and his son (I believe), and I took the opportunity to say hey... He thanked us for the t-shirt and said that he'd be in contact with us soon. It just sounds like they appreciate the site, and i'm sure all of the discussion and things that go on here. Ulice was EXTREMELY polite and I pretty much walked out of the stadium stunned. This had to rank up there with Jim Powell's first radio plug and Darron Sutton's first TV plug. Hopefully this will be the start of stronger ties between the front office and brewerfan.net. He mentioned how he'd like us to promote the heck out of the Beloit / Miller Park game... I know I wouldn't miss seing the Snappers play in Miller Park for the world...
  19. Does Weeks getting a major league deal really have any impact regarding when he becomes a free agent? Or even arby eligible? As far as I know, it's only major league service time that counts towards both....
  20. dollarbill: I have a source... everyone else: It's not a big deal really, as long as he gets to the major leagues in three years anyway. On the negative side, it starts his option years rolling immediately, and takes up a space on the 40-man. On the positive side, it allows the Brewers to tinker with the bonus/salary situation. I don't think the negatives outweigh him getting signed.
  21. I'm hearing Weeks will probably get a 2004 MLB contract. Stinks that he'll start burning up option years, but as long as he progresses, I suppose that point is moot...
