  1. I hope the Brewers really get out ahead of Colorado tomorrow night. I'd love to see Peralta get his first appearance at MP out of the way, and in front of said 40K fans.
  2. This thing just got Sy Snootles, in well under 20 guesses. I was certain it wouldn't be able to come up with that character. Can someone explain to me how a program like this is written? It just seems like there's so much knowledge that would have to be built in.
  3. Wow, thank you for posting all that info. Really interesting.
  4. In reading some of the coverage of Ryan's presser today, it certainly sounds like the main thing he was after from Uthoff was to talk about the decision with him. I admit I don't know anything, really, about how this all went down... but I don't think it's out of line for a coach to ask a player to talk with him about why he's decided to transfer.
  5. Yeah that should be easy... but I have zero time at the moment. Just send me a PM reminder every so often & I'll get it done eventually
  6. Yeah, I was very sorry to hear this, but at least he's not in pain from cancer anymore.
  7. Thornburg is not athletic... yes, that sounds like a really informed opinion
  8. I do read the MiLB forum & transaction forum, basically every day. In fact, that's where (MiLB forum) much of the support I've seen recently for the F.O. has been. It's most certainly not "all about" Brewers incompetence, and that's by no means arguing semantics. If the main thing you see, especially in the MiLB forum, is that, then we've been reading different MiLB forums. People are super-excited about the pitching you mention, & there's been plenty of praise for the F.O. for drafting well. Like you say, the F.O. is by no means perfect, & this is a/the place where fans get to discuss alternative ideas. So of course you're going to see a lot of "bashing", this is the place for it if you want to actually have a good objective discussion. I agree that some or much of it seems to be without merit, but there's plenty of good stuff too that can be lumped in as "bashing". I don't begrudge you feeling irritated overall, but the discussion in this thread has been centered around using Gomez as an emergency SS, in the case of burning through the entire bench. I just don't see it as some huge affront to suggest that using Gomez as the emergency SS is something that DM & Co. wouldn't feel comfortable doing, or be creative enough to try (fwiw I don't even think it would be a good idea).
  9. Sorry, I don't mean to disagree with you that the rigid notion of a Cleanup Hitter™ is a little silly (esp. if the idea is that Hart couldn't be one, arbitrarily). But honestly the discussion in this thread of RR's comments was the first thing I thought of once Ramirez's HR crashed into the HD deck last night. I just thought it was an interesting snapshot of the things we consistently hear about behind the scenes, as to why the players love Ron. Ramirez: Ron, I'm having a hard time believing in myself right now, I don't have the swing or the confidence right now. RR: Well I believe in you, and you're our guy. Ramirez: [*boom* huge HR in same night's game] EDIT: (yes, that's a corny way to relate it, but I believe that's the kind of stuff that makes the players love RR)
  10. I don't have a subscription, but just saw this tweet from Baseball America:
  11. No, I didn't take an argument in semantics. I took it as you bagging on posters for no good reason, complete with condescension ranging from "how old are you?" to "you're just a video game nerd".
  12. No, it's not constant bashing. And furthermore, if anyone wants to complain about Melvin & Co. lacking creativity, I won't begrudge him/her. That, to me, is Melvin's biggest weakness as a GM. Of course people give the front office & ownership credit, to say anything else is just ignoring plenty of posts here.
  13. Well if you want to look at this in a behind-the-scenes kind of way (which is where I'm convinced RR has his greatest value as a manager), Ramirez hit his first HR last night, after possibly having his manager tell him that he believes in him too much to move him down in the lineup. "He's not happy where he is" doesn't necessarily have to have anything to do with a batting order.
  14. At the expense of being ridiculed for posting this for like the 800th time... http://brewers.mlb.com/video/play.jsp?content_id=4620435&c_id=mlb
  15. And he definitely moved back as the ball was in flight to get into throwing position. I think that's what made it most painful to me.
  16. I think Kottaras could bring back a decent return, he's under team salary control through '15 and has a pretty nice swing from the left side. However, you might have to find a GM that thinks George has 'figured it all out' at the plate.
  17. Nope, you're 100% right. If you watch the angle from down the 3B line, you can clearly see the tag impacted against Morgan's butt. Then, based on where the tag was applied from that angle, you can combine it with the angle looking down at HP from the media area, & you can see Morgan was out by a considerable amount (given the circumstances). I'm really surprised the ump missed that call, but of course we have the luxury of slo-mo replay. EDIT: Fwiw, like thablingster, I watched it frame-by-frame on DVR
  18. Prince Fielder, stolen base threat http://mlb.mlb.com/video/play.jsp?content_id=20727551&partnerId=aw-5958661922668729780-996 Yuni Betancourt with a cameo as Guy Who Tries to Tag Prince
  19. I guess you couldn't have hoped for a flawless first appearance back for Rogers; not bad overall, considering. I hope he can continue to get back to form & pitch for the big-league Brewers before long.
  20. I have nothing to add aside from that this is an awesome story, and I now like Cappy even more than I already did.
  21. The answer to this entire situation is Taylor Green. He restricts Izturis to SS-only duty, and could fill in at 2B, 3B, & 1B if needed. I understand the argument that it's better for Green to have regular AAA at-bats. I just disagree at this point.
  22. Oh ok, there's where I was confused. Forgot he was a redshirt frosh for this coming season. Thanks!
  23. Yeah, Gamel's not exactly fast, but he does look to be a very good baserunner. He's got, at worst, average overall speed -- and at 1B that makes him one of the fastest at the position.
  24. if that is the reason it is short-sighted since as a Sophomore he was penciled in to be a starter. Hmm, I figured he'd be behind Evans at the #3 -- was he slotted in at the #2 spot?
  25. perhaps he is leaving because of threat of reduced playing time because of Dekker. That's the assumption I've made. I can't blame a kid for deciding to go somewhere else so he can play.
