  1. Both you guys have been doing an awesome job, and I certainly haven't noticed any mistakes personally in reading through your posts.
  2. Ok, I started laughing as soon as the Benny Hill theme started playing.
  3. Hah! Glad plenty of others wanted to talk about him too. I guess his speed isn't something I'd really noticed one way or the other, aside from him being significantly faster than Prince of course. I definitely agree with the comment about him being a pretty savvy baserunner so far.
  4. Nicely done, bork. At this point I think the main change I'd have on my own list is Thornburg at #2. And I agree completely on adding bats, jjfanec. If the bats are there at their picks this year, I'd love to see the Brewers go offense-heavy.
  5. Yeah, I think the sort of extreme youth of the bulk of the good hitting prospects could simply mean that they just need to open some eyes this season, as you said. Cameron Garfield is another guy who's still pretty young, and obviously thought pretty highly of by the Brewers. And it's not like all these guys will open anyone's eyes this season, but there's a decent group of players who have a chance this season to break down that door to being recognized, nationwide, as prospects to watch.
  6. Yeah, I have to completely agree on all the stuff posted about Nelson. I'd also like to add my actual out-loud comment when I saw his latest line: "Wow" This dude has turned himself into arguably the most projectable big-league pitcher in the entire farm system... of course the season is young, but so far this year scouting & stats agree on him.
  7. Bump... I'm curious to get thoughts on Gamel so far. One thing I recall being repeated about Gamel a lot over the past two or three seasons is that he had a big hole in his swing in on his hands. I never really agreed with that, & so far this season he's looked very good keeping his hands in & still driving the ball. I realize this post should come with the small sample alert disclaimer, but so far Gamel has hit about exactly as was projected by the posters who were in his corner heading into this season -- not massive power like Prince, but a really nice, short stroke with plenty of power. Defensively, he's obviously a huge upgrade; we Brewers fans got used to some pretty putrid 1B defense over the past 6 seasons.
  8. That was one fine pitching-dominated win. Yo looked excellent, and his cutter was looking very nice (esp. as the called 3d strike to Byrd in the 7th). Even if Yo can't ever get really comfortable with his changeup, if what we saw of the cutter today is a preview of things to come, he won't need the change to be a dominating pitcher. Kudos to Kottaras on another beautiful swing on the cement-mixer slider from Dempster. That ball was crushed! I love George's swing, it's just so simple, quiet, short, & effortless-looking. He never looks like he's swinging out of his shoes, but his HR distances sure make it seem that way. Good to see Gamel with another nice game. As of right now, the Overbay comparisons seem closer to what his worst-case projection as a big-league hitter should be. Nice to see Mat delivering right away as a full-time starter. Another guy with a simply gorgeous swing.
  9. I have to admit, selfishly I want to see him do well so he can develop a cult following called The Blockheads
  10. That seems pretty standard from Greinke. Doesn't want to be interviewed unless it's on a day he's pitched.
  11. I wanted to give this thread a bump to see if people would want to put together another user-driven P50 after the first month or maybe two of the season. I know I'd be in.
  12. I'd guess a little of both, Tedaldtada, but mainly lack of young impact bats. The young bats the Brewers do have that look good are still so young & inexperienced/without-stateside-track-records (Arcia & Ozuna come to mind) that they aren't considered top prospects yet.
  13. Thank you for that, this is basically what I was assuming... but I'll admit the extent of my "knowledge" about Spanish is mostly from player names in baseball & soccer.
  14. He was prounouncing Beltran "Bel-TRAHHN" (as opposed to the more common-in-America "Bel-tran"... "-an" sounding like the English indefinite article "an"), which to the best of my limited knowledge is the correct pronunciation. I'm assuming (since I haven't listened to him since the opening series) that he's going for "Cahh-stro" as opposed to a more midwestern-y "Cyas-tro"... but I don't know what the proper pronunciation of Castro's surname should be. (I tried with those phonetic spellings... hope they make sense)
  15. MadScientist, I was referring more to initial reactions when BA got hired, not your post in this thread. Just going at the idea that no matter who the hire is, the main thing people haven't liked about a new hire here is that they're not familiar yet. Once these guys have gotten settled in, most have been pretty happy with them. I'm guessing the same will be true with Block.
  16. Oh I completely agree that the best move, if Greinke walks, is to look to deal Rickie & Corey. I almost included that in my post just prior to yours, but since Melvin would never do it I decided to leave that out. And beyond the WAR/regular season arguments being made, one main reason I think it'd be important to lock up Greinke is the shortened postseason rotations. Surviving the attrition of a 162-game season is one thing, but once you get to the postseason, if you only have one ace-caliber pitcher, the chances of you advancing deep or at all are not good. Having a 1-2 punch of Yo & Greinke is even more important once you get to the playoffs. Now is it worth spending north of $100M on Greinke to keep that 1-2? I guess that's the real question.
  17. Thanks for posting one with Zebrone in it... doing the T-Plush no less! Great photo.
  18. Well Braun approached the team about his extension iirc, so that shouldn't really count too much for Melvin. I agree that all three extensions look pretty good right now, though.
  19. Wow, that dude has one heck of an arm
  20. It's a better long-term move to not sign him, even though I do actually want the Brewers to re-sign him. Greinke is the kind of pitching the Brewers will need to develop, not buy. Even if he gives a discount to the Brewers, we're still talking colossal dollars.
  21. I thought Block was fine, & trying to get settled. I won't begrudge people if his voice bores them, that doesn't bother me really. He pulled out some impressive words in a few select situations that I enjoyed. Not cuss words, just unique. viewtopic.php?f=63&t=17426&start=20 Check out the 'Provus is hired' thread. To many, Provus was the worst possible hire & no way could he be tolerated. Give Block some time. If you still don't like him, fair enough. But it seems every new announcer hire is terrible for some reason -- 'he's a golf announcer' (BA actually played baseball in college & called MiLB games for years including at ESPN), 'he's a Cubs fan' (turned out fine).
  22. I like the extra game log action, Crew. Context is always great.
  23. It wasn't really in the spotlight. I was actually going to post earlier today (before this latest news, obviously) that the silence on this topic was getting deafening.
  24. I'm willing to believe Ryan if he would lay it all out In other words, violate the confidentiality that's supposed to be inherent in the process. He's gone on record with the 'I don't think it'd be good for anyone for me to speak further' line, which imo is another way of saying he doesn't want to violate the confidentiality that was violated at his expense.
  25. Yeah, there's really nothing there that indicates this is any kind of death blow to extension talks. It just definitely makes me close to 100% pessimistic, so kudos to you
