  1. Lets see how low we need to set our expectations until RR is a decent manager. ... Lets see how high we can set the bar to be considered good until there is no possibility that we can have a good manager. Let's ruin an objective discussion of the team's manager by turning it into a party-line politics debate. If this thread is going to turn into blindly defending or blindly bashing Roenicke, then might as well lock it up now & try to start over.
  2. The sooner MLB does away with those silly blackout restrictions, the sooner MLB.tv explodes as the way to watch MLB games.
  3. Thank you for making me search for that nickname. The corresponding article had me doubled over with some of the nicknames.
  4. Alright, I've officially hopped on the bandwagon. "Downhill Thunder" it is.
  5. I'd recommend people go back to any 2011 LR post & just blatantly copy that formatting. MH has perfected this art form, and it's really, really easy to remember which links to post when all you're doing is copying his format
  6. WOW. You weren't kidding. http://oakland.athletics.mlb.com/mlb/gameday/index.jsp?gid=2012_04_06_seamlb_oakmlb_1&mode=recap_home&c_id=oak#gid=2012_04_06_seamlb_oakmlb_1&mode=video
  7. Yeah I have to agree with everything here... especially how amazing "Downhill Thunder" is as a nickname. The Brewers have some good ones, much better than the sterotypical [First Initial]-[First few letters of last name] stuff... although I guess we very specifically have one or two of those . Sea Bass, Tony Plush, Downhill Thunder, Ax-Man, Mat the Batt (not exactly official, we have work to do!)
  8. Many teams with playoff aspirations have been foiled by an unsettled bullpen. This perfectly describes the Cards for most of the season last season, & then they traded for bullpen depth (sending away a very talented young player) & 'pen guys got hot, especially in the postseason. Just shows how unpredictable & volatile RP production can be over the course of a season/half-season/quarter-season. Who is going to step in? I know that the clever answer is 'whoever fits the situation best', but that ain't happening. I know you're a diehard Brewers fan, but I think you're really missing a lot of options here. If you're talking for just one season... Peralta, Fiers, Manzanillo, Rogers, & Braddock are all guys who could conceivably step in and throw well over 60-70 IP. (I personally wouldn't want to mess with Peralta as a SP, but he's an option if one would want to consider letting him grow against MLB hitters from the bullpen)
  9. "A manager's job is simple. For one hundred sixty-two games you try not to screw up all that smart stuff your organization did last December." -- Earl Weaver And this is one of many reasons why someone needs to create cyborg Earl Weaver.
  10. Wow, nice work Crew07 & Tedaldtada. Lookin' good for first cracks at the LR!
  11. Crew07, I know you often refer to that rumored deal, but the rumor was Fielder for Cain, not Hart for Cain. This nails it, for me. Is it a hypothetical? Of course. But this is exactly the type of shift in philosophy the Brewers are going to need to sustain success. I know 'buy low, sell high' is repeated so often with regards to baseball trading that the phrase loses a little of its literal meaning, but playing the stock market well is exactly the kind of approach the Brewers should adopt. Buy the asset before it's at its peak, not after. Will you miss on some? Absolutely. But by keeping Hardy, it turned out the Brewers missed just about as badly as was possible. It's kind of painful how well 'buy high, sell low' describes Melvin's approach as GM.
  12. Well said. And I know what you mean in using "cinematography", and I can't think of a better word to describe it. But I know you mean more than just the framing of the shots. The show's use of light & dark is probably my favorite aspect. There have been some just jaw-dropping scenes based on said usage.
  13. Great advice. Farmers Markets+in-season fresh veggies & fruit = wow. I hope people are already aware, but if not, correctly grilled zucchini/summer squash is amazing. Or toss some mushrooms in aluminum foil, pour in some beer, & throw that on the grill until they're done. Glad I'm not hungry right now. Think of how amazing meat cooked on a grill is... the same rule applies to veggies imo.
  14. Yep, same here, what an incredible story... thank you for sharing Kalle. In memory of Andrea Gagino 1972 - 2012 -- rest in peace
  15. Wow, what horrible news. Pretty much puts baseball right back into its proper perspective.
  16. Time to touch all the bases.... ah-thank-you... http://i.ebayimg.com/t/1989-Jeffrey-Leonard-Brewers-Topps-Ames-20-20-Club-19-/00/$(KGrHqYOKjYE2OF44R,TBNt+)zgcO!~~_35.JPG http://millercards.net/im_eb_large/eb165.jpg http://i.imgur.com/RsH9X.jpg According to BrewCrewBall, these are the only three Brewers to ever wear 0 or 00. I didn't know if there'd been any, so thanks to BCB & author-of-post TheJay!
  17. I laid this out in a different post in this subforum, but the only things I would warn prospective MiLB.TV purchasers about is that the camera angle(s) & quality aren't necessarily great, and the ability to jump forward or backward time-wise (example: wanting to re-watch a nice play) during a broadcast last season was very much limited & not easy-to-use. I can extrapolate if anyone wants, but I think it's only fair warning on MiLB.TV to let people know what kind of content they'd be paying for.
  18. Geez, you might only see that once in your entire career, if it's off the bat of the same hitter. How odd.
  19. I wanted to add that I may not be able to contribute much over the next three weeks or so. I'm going to be busy with summer softball season rapidly approaching (I help to run a league). Once the season gets underway, ironically, my workload should actually diminish significantly.
  20. Yeah, that was actually almost identical to the idea I had, Eric. Good call.
  21. 0, because Ishikawa isn't a natural OF. Kotsay was an OF, and used to play CF. The same can't be said for Ishikawa. Playing him in a corner OF spot would be bad enough though. I'll believe that that's not going to happen when I don't see it! I mean, unless one of them gets hurt, you have literally two backup elite/very good CF/OF defenders on the bench every single game. Ish should play zero games in the OF this season, but knowing good ol' Ron, he'll find a way.
  22. I recall McMahan filling up quite a few Helena box scores as I was doing LR posts last season. Hope he can continue to fill 'em up! Dude. For you? That's gotta be a no-brainer. The only thing I'd say is that the audio feeds can be pretty uninspired at times, and typically you're only getting one camera angle -- high from behind HP... unless whatever park the game you're watching has its camera spot elsewhere. It's also tough to go back & re-watch a play/swing/delivery, because the trackbar or whatever you call it at the bottom of the screen (where you click to skip ahead or back in the action) allows you to only select certain spots in the timespan of the broadcast. I remember painstakingly re-watching several Gindl/Gamel HRs last season, and it gets annoying. Just full disclosure before you shell out any money for it.
  23. Wow -- you weren't kidding! Also, I loved any time Hopkins would hit last season -- "Work" might be my favorite GangStarr song... and I have a lot that would qualify.
