  1. Buffet just seems like something I don't want to see. It just seems like it'd be a bunch of 50 year olds drinking margaritas and trying to be 20 again. Kind of like seeing REO at the fair, or something When I went, there were almost as many young fans as old. Nothing like your REO example. I can't really explain exactly why it was so incredible... just one of those things you have to see to understand/believe. Best concert I've ever attended, and it's not even close - though it should be noted that what sets it apart was the atmosphere prior to the show. Best party I've been to!
  2. Isn't James still a suspect shooter? And how does his defense stack up to that of Flowers & Hughes? Marquette would have to have a lot of things go their way to make it deeper than UW this season.
  3. Wow - shocking... though I guess less so, given your taste in music. I'd describe myself as a very casual fan of Buffet... but you can't help but be in awe of what goes on when Jimmy comes to Alpine Valley. Unreal atmosphere & show.
  4. Geez - what a .... jerk
  5. Alpine Valley is on the short list of Best Outdoor Concert Venues in the country... Miller Park? Not really. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  6. Rickie is probably the only 2B in MLB at this point that is capable of giving Utley a run for the money in terms of offensive output. That .433 SLG will be much improved upon in 2008.
  7. I know this is shallow, but I can't take that guy seriously after seeing his face. That comment alone is deeper than any of the drivel this moron spilled out of his keyboard
  8. [updated to reflect state of mourning]
  9. Major league abilities? He played 10 games in the majors!!! What major league abilities?? Go search for C that had the sustained success he did in the minors. You won't find many. I'm saying I don't care if he was Crash Davis. He wasn't in the Show, so he wasn't successful. He was a bust Glad you're here to clear these things up
  10. Waste of time, waste of words. Guy's a loser.
  11. The fact that they got zip from Brown at the major league level is proof that it was a wasted draft choice. Or, the fact that you & I & most others have literally zero insight as to why he retired might be relevant. To call what he's done in the minors 'a waste' is totally incorrect.
  12. What'chu diggin' in the snow 'bout, Willis?! http://sportsmed.starwave.com/i/magazine/new/arnold_jackson.jpg
  13. An all-you-can-eat pass with (no expiration date) to the Olive Garden...
  14. Take 5 years, $35 million now and you're set for life, and then some. Or.... you play the 1 in 1,000 odds (or whatever they are) that you don't suffer a career-ending injury over your next 3-4 seasons and make damn near that entire contract value in one season, if you're Prince. When you're dealing with people, and not stocks, however, you're not doing your clients a favor by taking this approach. Manny Ramirez, Carl Pavano, Miguel Cabrera, & Ryan Howard all say hello... just to name a few examples.
  15. Rivera as a Brewer in 06 and 07: 155 ABs. .265/.322/.477, 8 HR 27 RBI Yeah that really sucks. And before you point to his AAA stats in 07 to back you up endaround, look at what he did in 05 (.895 OPS) and 06 (.827). But you're talking about just 155 MLB AB - not really a great evaluation tool. His AAA stats have been put up in the hitter-friendly PCL, too... at ages 28 & 29 for the seasons you cite. Basically, if Rivera couldn't do that at his age (like, say, put out the line he did from 2007 at Nashville), he'd have a hard time finding work. Rivera doesn't BB nearly enough to justify his low BA ability. Basically, he's Johnny Estrada offensively, but without the ability to hit for a high/respectable BA. Defensively, he's not good enough to balance out the poor O... though he's not as bad as Estrada was in 2007. EDIT: The fact alone that the Brewers put Rivera through waivers just so they could possibly send him back to the minors tells you all you need to know about how much the Crew thinks of Mike... and the fact that not one team claimed him gives you a good idea of his overall value.
  16. I think Vinny's got just an outside shot at making the big club - he's still got options left, doesn't he? To me, he's of great value should Dillon/Counsell/Hardy/Weeks/Hall get injured.
  17. Counsell is the opposite of Ryan Braun in the IF. Craig's O is so bad, it cancels out much of his fantastic D.
  18. Honestly, isn't it more likely is that someone got some credit card info out of dumpsters for the clubhouse? I can't imagine any scenario in which anyone unauthorized would be allowed to wander around an MLB training facility. I know that even just at the Kohl Center you're not going to get very far past the public areas before someone would stop you, and I'd bet security is even beefier at MLB complexes.
  19. I honestly don't think that there's any better way to say it: Jimmy Buffet at Alpine Valley is simply one of those items that is on the 'Must do before death' list. I've never before or since been to a better concert & atmosphere (& this is coming from a huge Dave Matthews Band fan... who's seen them numerous times, including several at Alpine). I hope to make another visit to share Alpine with Jimmy, the Coral Reefers, and the Parrotheads before I get too old! http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  20. Hall and Fielder are pretty similar to Hardy. As is Kendall. So by my count that puts Hardy in a tier with 4 of the 8 starters, and he's faster than Dillon & Munson/Rivera. Slower than Hart/Braun/Weeks/Cam/Gwynn (if you even think he's got a spot on the 25-man once Cam comes back)/Counsell. Pretty much sounds like in the middle to me. His OBA was lower in 2007 than it was as a rookie. That makes it tough to say for sure that it will make a huge jump this year, especially when you look at his minor league numbers. I think you're going to be surprised by J.J. this season, then. His power alone is enough reason to expect growth in his OBP, not to mention that he has a good eye and avoids Ks. Hardy's best spot is 7th, imo.
  21. I'm just not sure why just read that as a haiku must be the poem thread Are there any guys we've left off? What about Adrian Gonzalez? Put him in PHI & you might see better production than Howard. Check out Adrian's road #s from last year - 32 2B, 20 HR, .295/.358/.570/.928 Them's good eatins.
  22. The Brewers improvements are arguable. Bullpen could be great or terrible. Braun in left is a ? just as Hall was in center last year. Hall at third has 17 errors in 84 career games; not much better than Braun. E's are the wrong way to try to determine defensive worth. Hall is light-years better than Braun was at 3B in 2007. Neither Hall in CF nor Braun in LF will be as catastrophically horrible & impactful as Braun was at 3B. I don't see any way that "The Brewers have dramatically improved their team from 2007 heading into 2008" can be viewed as anything but an objective statement. I guess the real answer will come down to will the Brewers retooled bullpen be more of an advantage than the addition of Fukkodome. Fukudome's projected production isn't really that much better than what the Cubs got from their CF or RF in 2007. It's just not that huge of an upgrade.
  23. the Brewers aren't made up of 4 Ruth's and 5 Koufax's (more like 8 Ruth's and one Koufax) http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d15/iheartfamilyguy/037.gif Ollie, any word on the Brewers' 2008 offensive forecast? http://stewiesplayground.com/wp-content/uploads/2006/10/face1.png They gon' score a lotta runs!
  24. There's nothing wrong imo even with him making that statement honestly. Who wouldn't want the cover to be just them? (I ask you refrain from making the injury curse jokes!) http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  25. Soto had a great year at AAA last year, but it was his third year in the PCL and it was the first year in his minor league career with an OPS above .760. I'm not exactly buying him as an offensive force at catcher yet, but who knows..maybe he magically learned how to hit for power at the age of 24. Soto's BABIP at MLB in 2007: .486 (54 AB) Soto's BABIP at AAA in 2007: .407 (383 AB) Don't get me wrong, he's a solid young C, but we have no idea how good he's going to be yet. My guess is somewhere in the .750-.850 OPS range in his prime, which is obviously solid for a C. However, I think expecting a medium to large regression in production for Geovany this season is the only objective assessment.
