  1. great post, Series. Can't wait to see your pics! Gotta love our boys, esp. Benny. What a character! Rare to find that great of a person in pro sports. We're very lucky. EDIT: I know each team gets one AS rep, but the fact that Freddy Sanchez is in over Aramis Ramirez is an absolute joke. "Snub" doesn't even come close to describing that...how 'bout 'screwed'? Especially since Sanchez plays mostly at 2B at this point. Xavier Nady could have been their lone rep (in the OF), and he's having a far superior year to Sanchez. As much as I despise Aramis, he's one of the most explosive hitters in the game (& I do admit to enjoying watching him hit). His 2007 has been stellar thus far, and his numbers are better than many NL AS's, and on a par with most of the rest.
  2. Hawing! Nice post! Obviously I'm pretty excited about it, given the exclamation points. Got my softball game tonight, then the AS game, but perhaps tomorrow will be the perfect day to check it out - rounding out my own personal all-star break. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/glasses.gif
  3. I can't decide whether or not I agree more with the first part or the second... EDIT: 1 - Gordon, 2 - Braun, 3 - Zimm. (Although I don't think comparing them this year so far is anywhere near close)
  4. You mean a radio talk show host doesn't know what he's talking about? Shocking brewtank's trade proposal is downright scary, let alone Junior's crippling contract (I'll let you guys figure out which "Jr." I mean...), The Crew needs young talent, because it's affordable talent. Trade two of your top young players for anything less than a young star player? No thanks.
  5. thanks, felllas (Cooper, Oglivie, Simmons, Yount)
  6. Extremely high level of interest! 4 Crewers, & Prince in the Derby. I for one don't mind the random-ness of the AS game deciding HF advantage, as the previous system (alternating years) was random, too. Unfortunately (sort of) I play softball tues. evenings, so we'll have to hustle from our game's conclusion to try & catch the closing innings. Does anyone know the last time (if ever) the Crew sent 4 AS's to the game?
  7. sorry, tr-man just can't resist haikus we'll put it to rest
  8. I think it's time for Rickie to step up. Come on buddy, we need you badly now! If/Once he starts to see the ball well again, the 5-slot would/will no longer be a concern. This is admittedly a big 'if', but I have faith in Rickie. With a Rickie resurgence: Hart Hardy Braun Fielder Weeks Jenks/Mench Estrada Gwynn Without one: Hart Hardy Braun Fielder Estrada Jenks/Mench Weeks Gwynn Unless TGJ can sustain a high OBP, we can't afford to bat him 2, IMO. I obviously want to see him play well - the more lineup options the better.
  9. savvy Pittsburgh events planners! That malfunctioning little twirp! This is all his fault. He tricked me into going this way!
  10. don brings out haikus impossible to resist must respond in kind EDIT: congrats on the pub well-written, glowing review brian must be proud!
  11. Surprised to see Brettac hasn't come through with a gigantic, huge, "I TOLD YOU SO!" http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif Really, though, a 1.44 WHIP ain't too bad, esp. for a guy who's not exactly our #1 option outta the pen. To be fair, his last 5 outings (5 2/3 IP) have been fantastic. 2 BBs, 2 H, and a filthy .706 WHIP. If you even go as far back as the beginning of June... 10 IP, 1.10 WHIP, 2 ER, 96 of 152 pitches for strikes, and only one HR surrendered.
  12. Parra or Thatcher will be our extra LOOGY, I'd imagine. No need to give up a player when you already have a couple guys who excel at retiring lefties. If neither is deemed 'ready', then by all means please add another LOOGY. Doug is always looking for nuggets. I heard he even tried to trade for Iverson - to add some (outside) scoring punch and gritty, verteran leadership... Seriously, I know what you mean in that we need some fixed, tangible player(s) as opposed to just 'build for the future,' but one of the best things about Doug is that he's got great scouting to help him, & will always be all about snagging a nug. That's what Dougies do best!
  13. no update yet, still has that stomach flu apparently... My guess is that they'll play, but have to wait out at least one rain delay. Anything better than that is sweet! There are spotty yet severe T-storms moving on a line that aims right through Pittsburgh, but they aren't wide enough to pose certain rain-out doom. I hope they can get this one in.
  14. #1 looks like it'd be Sheff #2 is Yount, no question #3, probably COOOOOOOOOP, but SS Ernest Riles & OF Ben Oglivie were also African-American LH batters that year...
  15. Uh oh! Lil' Captain Jack Wilson totally owns Vargas! Captain Jack will get you by tonight... And take you to your special .329 OPS island.... Final game in Pitt Time for another haiku Let's get the Snell out!
  16. I'll write this nicely before you get teased...Your final grade isn't really reflected in your individual categories. I don't know what grade I'd give this team so far, maybe a B+, but don't know how I'd break it down in the categories EDIT: Off. - A- Def. - B SP - B BP - B+ Mg - B Maybe that matches up
  17. great, 'New York people' are now all a__h____. How nice of you. Good thing no "New York people" use this forum, huh?
  18. My guess on the "We prefer a pennant chase to a sausage race" sign is most likely some friendly competition between Chicago's & Milwaukee's Miller marketing agencies. I have no inside sources. The sign made me chuckle. It's clever. It's also in support of a team that still has a lot of work to do to actually make this a "pennant chase."
  19. Yea, FCUK plays with their acronym's similarity to the F-bomb on much of their shirts. I think it's tacky, but apparently it's 'cute' to some. NY sports media = dumb (on this one). Desparate for a 'story', they go with this. Think about all the crazy spin this would get if A-Rod weren't good again this year. Seriously, if they were still all about booing him, this would be 'some message from A-Rod to the boo birds!'
  20. Rickie's having a tough 2007 - no two ways about it. What I see right now in watching him is that he's not seeing the ball very well at the plate. While his OBP differential is still sound, you can see him swinging at pitches and then shaking his head out of frustration. I don't know how Rickie's 2007 will end up, but I can almost guarantee you that he's got at least one hot streak left in him. Let's just hope it's around come playoff time! EDIT: phandog, if you called inquiring me about Phillips and wanted to send me Weeks in exchange, I'd take that deal 10 times out of 10. Even in a year where his injury recovery has hampered his routine/reps, Rickie's OPS is right there. While Phillips is having a great year, Rickie's has been poor, and they're about even. Power and pontential (esp. 'power potential') are not to be taken lightly. You can be frustrated with Rickie this year, or thus far, but I think if you talk to most talent evaluators, they'd still say he's worth any small wait we may have to endure. It's not very often that a player with Rickie's combined physical attributes comes along, and on top of that, he's a 2B that will slug the ball much better than the vast majority of his peers at the position. And like Brian says, Phillips's OPS #s aren't that impressive. The fact that Rickie can keep pace with him while shaking off injury says even more about our boy.
  21. late to the thread... Wow! Four All-Stars was my 'best case' hope, but now it's great to see it come true! Four AS's for any team not in NY, Bos, or LA, let alone our Brewers. 2007 gets better and better.
  22. Thanks, lamp! Grace = meh Vasgersian = yea!
  23. wOOgiE, love & deeply appreciate all the great work you do -- just want to point out that in the 'Splits vs.', you have the Brewers as "vs. Rich Hill," not Sean Marshall, today's scheduled SP. Don't know if the actual numbers are correct (as in, vs. Marshall) & just the name atop them is wrong or what, but I'm curious. Time to feast on some baby bear flesh! GO BENNY! (I just simply love watching him work - can't wait 'til 3pm) p.s. -- I sincerely hope the craptastic duo of Buck/McCarver takes their terrible act to the NYM/PHI game today. I'm already going to miss BA & Rock, but being punished with Fox's super-dummy-duo would make this broadcast unpleasant.
