  1. Listen, I'm a big Don-fan, but I have to agree here. Vargas has been more than I'd expected thus far. Will his numbers look more like his career stats by the end of the year? Perhaps. But Vargas looks to be a bit of a late-bloomer, IMO, so I'll hold off judgment until later. For now, I simply sit back and say, "Nice 5th starter, Doug E. Doug!" I saw Vargas pitch in person this year, and was impressed overall. Sure, he got himself into a jam or two, but worked (and by "worked" I mean "struck") his way out of them! I worried ever since we acquired Claudio that he'd be an albatross for this team, but it's been quite the opposite. Also, people here are right to be cautious in projecting YoGa, but I think it's pretty safe to say he could post a 4.50 or lower ERA given a full-ish season. There is simply no reason to tinker with this team right now, and trying to predict potential problems is taking shots in the dark. Don, I'm with your strategy for constantly looking to improve the team for now & the long-term (and so is D.M.), but I can't get on board with trading Vargas. He's been a great addition to this squad, and seems to fit in just fine with everyone else
  2. What years? http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif FYI, Jerry Royster, Davey Lopes, and Ulice Payne have been unofficially officially "disappeared"...at least from my memory databanks Have the protocol droid's memory wiped *R2D2 chirp-laughs*
  3. Welcome aboard Ross! Glad to have you. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif Feel free to post things other than self-promoting garbage!!! (blue = sarcasm) http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  4. ACTION VERB! ACTION VERB! ACTION VERB! I keeeeeeeed, I keeeeeeeed - I actually wait to see what three you post on the first page of the IGTs!
  5. I can't believe that neither the Saturday nor the Sunday game haven't been picked up by Fox. 24-10 v. 21-12? You kiddin' me?
  6. It's fortune smiling upon us that we see Sosa, Pelfrey & Perez, as opposed to getting Glavine &/or Maine. This is a real chance to take the series from NYM, but as I said in a different thread, 3-4 on this road trip is solid, and anything over that is wonderful. GREAT work, wOOgiE. You're so good I don't even mind typing out your oddly caps'ed & un-caps'ed name! http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/glasses.gif
  7. Manny Parra has been disgustingly good v. LH. If we do indeed need another LOOGY at some point (Wise's unusual success v. LH may skew this need), I'd bet it's Parra. To be honest, though, I'd kind of want to do it just to stick roughly $2 mil. to Cincy! http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  8. Why is it that many MLers seem to fare so much better during day games? Is it just that there aren't as many? I know many, many hitters' numbers are better during the daytime...
  9. Yes it is a matter of taste. I prefer a more powerful option that consistently gets on base at a high clip, & plays good defense....over a player with little power who has done a nice job getting on base this year, & plays good defense. My main premise, however, in picking Gabe is that he's had sustained (relative) success at the MLB level, where Gwynn has only had 103 ABs in his young career. Besides, I think Gwynn isn't even in consideration for starts in RF. CF, yes....LF, perhaps....RF, no, IMO. Gross starting basically comes down to Hart/Mench/Jenks/Gross for the two corner spots. Starting Gross & Jenks v. RHP is wonderful! Gwynn will start when Hall gets a day off, so your 'deserves a start more than once every couple of weeks' moreso boils down to Hall or Gwynn, I'd guess. (Plus Tony's done a nice job PH-ing so far) TGJ career MLB line: .282/.318/.340/.658 (TPA - 110) Gross career ML line: .246/.351/.397/.748 (TPA - 543) However, at this point in the 2007 season, each guy has 30 or fewer ABs, so it's obviously a small sample
  10. It's because Gabe Gross is a much, much better option than TGJ against righties, and he plays a mean right field. Did he make a mistake last night? Yep. But his D is solid, his arm is great, and it looks like Yost wants to send a message to Gabe: "Hey, forget about it! We won."
  11. Happy Birthday Prince! He just couldn't be hotter What perfect timing
  12. The Nationals are bad. It'll take an extra-bad game both offensively & defensively for the Crew to lose any of these three games. Watching last night, I just couldn't help but think back to 2002ish in Milwaukee. I feel for D.C. baseball fans. I know Managerial jobs only come along every so often, but Manny Acta may have been better served to simply stick in Shea as Randolph's 3B coach rather than try to salvage this wreck. He's just doomed for this season, and I can't imagine him being retained past 2008 if the Nats are this bad again. And it won't be his fault. Who knows how long it may take for him to get another shot at managing? Plus, now his spot with the NYM is gone, so he has to start all over once his tenure in Wash. is up.
  13. wOOgiE, wOOgiE, keep turning out the sweet... (IGTs, that is!)
  14. Splitter, that post is awesome. To pick just one, this is, IMO, the best Rodney-fication. He would have told that joke, for certain. 100% his style - not that the rest aren't good! To answer the thread question....They're 2001-2002 Milwaukee Brewers bad. But maybe even a bit worse, and that's saying something
  15. I know exactly what you mean. I had these same thoughts watching tonight. Feeling alright sir? Just fine, Dak, how about you? Right now I feel like I could take on the whole Empire by myself I know what you mean, Dak, I know what you mean
  16. that's a sweet pic of Hall's sweet swing man
  17. If JJ's at .333, then it's not possible for Hall to be the 'worst of the three'
  18. I'm no stat-head, but I really can't see how 30 HR is not a realistic guess for JJ at this point. Is he over-achieving at this point? Perhaps, maybe even probably. But he's proved he can really mash, and his hot start will more than cover for a slump or two. I know he won't keep up on the current pace, but with essentially all of May remaining, and needing 22 more dongs to reach 30 -- that's around 5 or 6 more HRs per month. JJ will almost certainly not hit 5 or 6 in each month, but also will probably exceed 5 or 6 in at least one more month. The reason I post this is that projecting the 15-25 I guessed at the start of the year seems silly now. It's not like he's just sqeaking HRs around the foul poles - his power is better than I'd hoped. I've been on the Hardy train all along, but even I figured his 2d-half of 2005 was a bit of a power surge above average, which now looks to be an erroneous assumption
  19. Wii would like your money?
  20. well, at least the WSJ didn't wait to jump on the Brewers bandwagon. They've been covering them well for years! There's been article after article praising Melvin, and this is another one!
  21. Much can still take place in the middle of typing making posts dated
  22. whoa - that is eerie that song is clearly magic let's turn up the heat!
  23. Pittsburgh's Pat Maholm, lefty that Bill Hall mashes, will be the loser
  24. Haiku, from "Hokku," which thankfully was shortened Japanese art form
  25. Added a new pic Oops, I mean my avatar what does that word mean? Pic's a bit boxy, Oh well, it's an old logo that's how they drew it
