  1. This is set to be just about as good a pitching matchup as a baseball fan is going to see this year. Two guys that, for whatever reason, continue to fly under the radar (especially Oswalt)
  2. "Ana-ben Sheetswalker" -- Pitches 8 scoreless innings in game 7 of the 2008 WS, which the Brewers lose. He then signs FA deal with Cubs, and his BB rates instantly skyrocket. Sorry, couldn't resist
  3. Nice job boys! I've already (though infrequently) enjoyed it a bunch!
  4. Elmer Dessens makes me angry Not just in baseball
  5. Any word on the 'good guys' broadcast beyond "strained right groin"? WGN is my only option to see this game right now http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/frown.gif
  6. Yes indeed! Fwiw, Vargas would most likely be the sCrUBbieS' third starter (at worst) right now. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/glasses.gif
  7. I'd even be cool with Braun splitting time with Counsell at 3B for the start. Don't know what we'd do then to keep Graffy content, but I'm sure he'd get his PT, btw. his & Counsell's ability to play 3 of 4 INF spots. But lately, Graffy has been tossing the ball past 1B, which is what the worry is for Braun.
  8. olliegjw, it's 4 in a row, & 8-2 in their last 10 games
  9. I grew up in Oconomowoc, which is next to J Creek, essentially. We have many fields, and if needed I could contact the O-town Rec. Dept. to see what we could land there. But Helfaer is the obvious #1 choice. How much to reserve it? EDIT: I like the 'not on the field' umps. As long as people know the basic rules, that'll work well.
  10. I work as an MSCR umpire, and could probably find a guy from Madison, maybe you Milw. peeps can find a Mil. ump, so it's balanced. We'll obviously have to decide what rules to use (if any differences). I think (unless we find some experienced volunteers) that if we offer each ump something like $20 for the game, they'd be happy to work it (that's more than we get here in Madison per game...)
  11. This idea has been discussed briefly, and there's a lot of interest on both sides. So now it becomes a question of logistics.... When? Where? Do I sharpen my metal spikes or not.... http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif The Mad. team plays on Tuesdays, and I play as well on Mondays for the co-ed team. I'm assuming we'd have to find a weekend which worked. One other concern I have is officiating. It's not that we need to play for "pinks" or money or whatever, but it's always nice to have umps that know what they're doing (as in, the rules of slow-pitch softball). Do the Milw. people play with different rules? Mad. uses the 6' to 12' arc limit, with an appx. yard-long mat behind home plate to (coupling with HP) define the strike zone. The mat has a "V" cut out of the top end, so as to fit the back of HP. The sooner we iron out details like this, the more likely we have a great time when we actually get together!
  12. So this was more like "Stripes" AWOL than "Apocalypse Now" AWOL, huh
  13. Was that supposed to be in blue? I hope so
  14. FWIW, I sat behind 6 scouts last night, and the one immediately in front of me kept pointing out (about Vargas), "See? There's that fastball down & away to righties again" Claudio, if you're reading, coming inside with your heat may well notch you up some K's http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/glasses.gif
  15. That's the first thing that came to my mind last night (sitting in the 19th row behind HP for $21 -- it's good to be in the Brewers' fave 5). Fortunately, Hall protected himself. I'd have loved to see any of the drunken dummies around me go 'full' speed around 3B & crash into the 6'2" 240 lb. catcher! p.s. -- Miller looked competent, but has almost zero range. There was a play or two where lunged for the ball, and could only lay the tip of his mitt on it. Makes you recognize just how athletic Prince is. Nope, not minor to me. Minor league by FSN. Somehow, I feel like it's Ann Carrol's fault. Even if it really isn't, it probably still is http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  16. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/roll.gif Yea, we were lucky too, that Hall didn't try to crash into Pitt.'s catcher (Paulino?) - that guy had Hall by a few. At the time, the fans around me were screaming at Hall to have hit the dirt, unaware that in addition to dirt, he'd be hitting shin guard, glove, shoulder, etc. One fan even chided Hall after Estrada crossed the plate later ("See Hall, that's how you score!"), like it was Hall's fault Leyva (Weyvya?) sent him on a suicide mission!
  17. Unless this thread's "deadline" is in 2008, I don't really think there's relevance in discussion.
  18. He's just some nappy-headed man-ho, right? http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  19. The only way I'd want him is if we play him at DH. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif Manny'd be great, and who knows what lies in the future (the Shadow knows...) regarding his willingness to even consider a small-market team, but I just can't see it happening.
  20. That move won't work out. When's the last time the Marlins developed any young talent? Geez, that organization is run scarily well, even though I'll admit they seem to toe the line of "Frugal" and "Exploiting the ____ out of MLB's revenue sharing" This stinks, as Tankersley was a guy I'd hoped the Crew could snag in a deal, but oh well. I think I was informed even back in the offseason that he'd cost us more than expected
  21. shhhh... they on't-day now-kay at-whay we're up to-ay....
  22. yes, I believe he has a full no-trade clause
  23. That's a really good idea. I don't know how difficult or easy that would be, though. I loathe the tedious aspect of micro-managing my fantasy baseball roster, otherwise I'd love it. Even so, I'm a baseball junkie, so I'd love box scores!
  24. This guy did kinda vanish rather quickly; I pm'd him after he felt I was being a jerk, and I welcomed him aboard, etc., etc., and no response, and hasn't posted since. Make of that what you will
