  1. Walter Johnson was a pretty good hitter as well. There were lots of guys from the 60's who could hit- Tony Cloninger and Rick Wise come to mind.
  2. The sky is falling. A lot of people didn't think that they'd be in first place in mid-July. I may be a homer, but I don't think they've been playing anywhere near their potential yet. If they do, they should win the division in a cake walk. Why is this team 'not a World Series team'? Last July, did anyone think that the Giants were a championship caliber team with that pathetic offense? If they can get Greinke and Gallardo going at the same time, I like their chances against anybody, including Philly.
  3. 669 Odd. I am getting the epic Royals/Twins clash on 668, but nothing but a logo and music on 669. Thanks.
  4. Anyone successfully watching this on Directv? If so, could you shoot me a channel #? Thanks.
  5. I would tend to agree with everyone above. I'm not sold on the idea of the 'ROOGY'- considering this team is stocked with RH relievers, but I think that Loe should be a situational guy pitching to one or two batters at a pop, and at the bottom of the pecking order at this point (behind the other four). I still think that Melvin needs to address the lack of a LH arm in the pen to avoid situations like last night.... the major issue being that none of the 'sellers' seem to have any of these guys worth trading for (maybe not a coincidence). Stetter isn't showing much progress either.
  6. Loe has been absolutely brutal. His stats don't look as bad as he's pitched because he started off well. He is leading all of baseball in blown saves, which is fairly ridiculous for a non-closer. That shows me that he's being used way too much in situations in which he shouldn't be. Frankly, I'm tired of watching a 'ground ball pitcher' flipping belt high meatballs up there.
  7. I don't think it's purely a lefty/righty thing. Loe is a sinker/slider guy who is leaving pitches belt high. Righty or lefty, a good hitter generally crushes the pitch that Helton got tonight- Loe hung the slider and split the plate in half. This has been happening too much with him this year.
  8. Felt that I just stepped into the Twilight Zone here on the post game. First, I heard 'The Unit' do not only a voice over, but a quasi endorsement for Chevy dealers. Then, seconds later- as part of the Wisconsin Dells promo, for the first time ever on TV, I saw a guy with a worse golf swing than mine- he hit a horrible duck hook that went about 15 yards into the weeds. I thought it was some sort of joke, but no punchline. Anyone else catch that?
  9. Roenicke is just like Yost in that his handling of the bullpen is his Achilles heel.
  10. I'm not sure why he's necessary considering he's probably the fifth best RH reliever on the team right now, especially considering that Estrada is in mop up duty.
  11. Looks like he's blown another game, yet Roenicke keeps running him out there in clutch situations. The title is an offshoot of the Yuni thread because everyone seems to harp on Yuni and Kotsay, but in my view, this is the biggest problem with the team right now. I think it's time to discuss whether Loe should go.
  12. I think giving up Braddock would be a terrible move at this point. I understand he hasn't been great this year, but he's still got the stuff to be a future closer, and he's all of what, 23 years old? Furcal would be a guy we'd take a flier on, not someone you give up someone like Braddock for. We'd be doing the Dodgers a favor in taking Furcal off their hands. Anyway, I'd much rather see them go after Jamey Carroll with someone like Kottaras and someone in the 5-12 range of prospects. In the last two years Carroll's been about a .292/.376 guy who's played very solid defense. Much safer bet than Furcal. I agree that Braddock is too much to give up for Furcal. I just have a gut feeling that something like this could happen because he's deep in the doghouse right now.
  13. Bartlett had one good year offensively with the Twins and judging from his fielding stats this season, that hasn't been very good either. I'm going to go out on a limb and predict a Braddock for Furcal + cash deal. If Casey Blake wasn't hurt, I could see Melvin adding him as well.
  14. Bartlett has been horrible this season. Worse than Yuni both at the plate and in the field. He has all the makings of a one year wonder. Jack Wilson is a good idea though, but he hasn't played much short this year. All that said, I think that Furcal will be in a Brewers uniform by the end of the month.
  15. Vuke got grumpier as the years went on. When he first came to Milwaukee, I got his autograph several times (81-83). As the years went on, he got tougher and tougher. The last time that I got him to sign was when he was the color guy on TV in the late 80's. He was grumpy, but he did sign my ball. These days, I hear that he rudely declines most all autograph requests.
  16. Greinke gets a lot of the heat, but Gallardo hasn't been very good, Marcum has been pedestrian since May, Wolf has been brutal the past few times out, and Narveson is Narveson.
  17. I think that he forced his hand. After what shook down with the demotion to the minors with the crowning of Escobar as the SS of the future, it was obvious that Hardy had to be traded. I think that this hurt his value more than the extra year of control helped it.
  18. I see that the number 7 is still available for Hardy. Unfortunately, it looks like in Baltimorethe two sides are making progress on an extension for 3 years in the $21-$25 million range. I'd do that deal in a heartbeat, and I'd give the O's a couple of Power 50 top 10 arms for the privilege. Probably a pipe dream at this point though I guess that I don't see guys like Bartlett as much of an upgrade over Yuni. I have a feeling it's going to end up being Furcal if he can stay in one piece.
  19. Sad news-just saw that Steve Shannon passed away. Back in the 'glory days' of the Crew on WVTV (When they only televised 30-60 games a year, all on the road), he was the play by play man with Mike Hegan. It's been a tough stretch for former Brewers announcers, Merle Harmon, Rory Markas, Lorn Brown and now Shannon have all left us in the past year or two.
  20. I agree that the DL stint and the demotion seems to be the root of these issues, he wasn't too bad before that. Reading between the lines on some of the quotes from Roenicke, I also think that there is more going on with him than a simple sleep disorder. This team needs a LH reliever that can get lefties out consistently. Herrera need not apply...
  21. Seriously, I can't understand how some of the same people who constantly deride Kotsay will stand up for Loe. Who here doesn't groan when Loe is put into the game when it's tied or the Brewers have a one or two run lead? I honestly think that it's because one has a positive WAR, and one has a negative WAR.
  22. You'll probably get him on a 3 year $25-30 million deal. I really don't think anyone's going to want to give a 33 year old who's missed big chunks of the past two seasons a four year deal. Most of the heavy hitters are set at 3rd (Bos, NYM, NYY, etc.)
  23. What is he making this season? Isn't there a maximum wage cut a guy could get through arbitration.
  24. As others have said, no way Axford, LuCroy or Narveson sniff that kind of loot. I wouldn't even give them that kind of money if I could lock them in at a flat rate for the next several years and buy out their arby.
  25. I'd give them Green, a young reliever (Dillard, McClendon, etc.) and a couple of top 10 pitching prospects for Reynolds and Hardy. If they want McGehee, I'd kick him in as well (and Wilson or Yuni if they need a warm body at short for the rest of the season)
