  1. I doubt this will preclude him from getting another big league job. He's managed four different teams already (on an interim or permanent basis) coming into this season with a sub .450 winning pct. in over 2,000 games. If he's still getting/keeping jobs with that track record, I doubt that resigning mid-season is career suicide. I think this quote goes a long way in explaining his continued employment: "he is the ultimate company man, and always toes the line".
  2. Who would they have taken at 7? Everyone out there is falling all over themselves praising Charlotte right now, but I'm a little underwhelmed with their 'haul' of Bismack and Kemba. Bismack is raw and not even cleared to play in the NBA yet, and I think Kemba is overrated. I highly doubt that these two will be the foundation of a championship team.
  3. You shouldn't have any frustration over Dirk. There was zero chance the Bucks were ever going to take him. How can you not be frustrated that for a split-second we had rights to a franchise-changing Hall of Famer? I guess you're saying just treat it like we passed on him like the other eight teams before us did, and I understand that, but I can't help but feel a little sick seeing his name listed next to the Bucks as a draft selection knowing we have nothing to show for it. That's all.... Not completely obscure fact, but a lot of people aren't aware that the Bucks drafted Dr. J as well, back in the day and got no compensation for it because he jumped to the ABA. They drafted him with intent to keep him as well. Imagine that team in the early to mid 70's. Now that I think about it, I'm pretty sure that the ABA Nets tried to sell him to Atlanta when the ABA was merging with the NBA, and the Bucks took them to court. I think they may have gotten some sort of compensation for him because somehow he ended up with Philly.
  4. I like the Harris pick. Since they made the move that they did earlier today, it seems that the Bucks were targeting him. He has a strong physical resemblance to Shane Battier, so it was a little ironic that the pundits compared their games as well- in that they do everything relatively well. As an 18 year old who was rated a top 5 recruit by some and who scored 15 ppg as a freshman in the SEC, I think there's got to be some upside potential here as well. I kind of expected the Leuer pick, but not sure if he will be a fit in the NBA. It would be cool if he could develop into a Matt Bonner type guy, but he seems a little soft for that. At any rate he's a second rounder so he's a crapshoot by definition. I'm not really heartbroken over any of the guys that went 10-19. I liked Burks, but had Skiles not liked his defensive effort, he probably would have been getting DNP-CD on a regular basis. Obviously this team has a glaring need at SG right now that will need to be addressed, and there's some decent vet free agents out there.
  5. Seriously, would anyone in the NBA want to be traded to Milwaukee? This is probably reason #1 as to why a 'blow it up to nothing and rebuild' likely wouldn't work. You'd have to hit on about 3 straight drafts (one of which with a Tim Duncan, Kevin Durant type guy) for that to happen. I have a feeling that the Bucks aren't done dealing, but at the end of the night I hope that they end up with someone that can shoot the ball from the 2.
  6. Where do I go to put money on that not happening?Probably Vegas, but if you're gutsy, an online sportsbook. What part don't you like, the home or away? If you don't like the away, keep betting on the Brewers and adjust your bet until they win, if you don't like the home it depends on whether you think the Twins will win the series or the Brewers will sweep. If you want me to set odds on my scenario, you'd probably have to give me around 15 to 1. I'd say the Twins sweeping the Brewers in Minnesota alone would be close to 10 to 1. Like I said, the Twins are generally very lucky against the Brewers, so I'd say the odds of it actually happening are better than they appear on paper.
  7. Talk about getting out while the getting was good. This is like walking away from the blackjack table up 100 bucks before the inevitable run of bad luck. He probably saw what happened with McKeon and figured that he can bounce around another 20 years. Riggleman is becoming this generation's John McNamara- how does he keep getting jobs?
  8. Works for me. Skiles obviously doesn't like Maggette and Salmons was steaming garbage last year. Jackson is better at taking the ball to the rim than Maggette and Beno is a streaky shooter a la Salmons. The contracts are better on the Bucks' end as well. I got a little nervous and angry when I saw Tristan Thompson linked to the Bucks this morning, so hopefully he is long gone before they pick.
  9. I'd be all over Stephen Jackson- the major issue would involve whether Skiles would play him or not.
  10. That's basically the entire state outside the cities. 'Outstate' is basically one large Adams County. At least in Wisconsin, there are a handful of 'cities' of 40,000 or more fairly evenly spaced out- modern civilization reaches these places to some extent. Minnesota doesn't have that. Outside of Rochester and Duluth, I believe that all their Top 10 population cities are Minneapolis, St. Paul and suburbs. The Twins are a brutal squad this season, but they have been pretty lucky against the crew since the turn of the century. I'm going to predict that the Brewers take 2 of 3 in Milwaukee and then get swept away in Minneapolis.
  11. Hopefully they trade back. I'm more intrigued by some guys that will slide out of the lottery than anything available at ten. I want no part of Kemba Walker- he's definitely going to be a bust, not a starting-caliber NBA point guard and too short and not good enough of a shooter to be a SG. I don't want any international player either if we have to let them 'mature' for a year or two while playing out their contract with another team. Take a flyer on an international player in the 2nd By the way, I was reading this article in the MPLS Star Tribune today on Derrick Williams, and apparently he considers himself a SF. http://www.startribune.co...ts/wolves/124139184.html
  12. "Provincial attitude? I've never got that vibe from anyone in this state. I take it that you didn't attend school there.
  13. Plus, as a general rule, Minnesotans are rather arrogant when it comes to comparing themselves to other Midwesterners. Except Dakotans. For some reason Minnesotans seem to have a special bond with them. Don't even want to know what that's about. This is spot on, I've never met more provincial folks then those from Minnesota. You are right about the Dakotas thing too. Some Minnesotans actually even attend college there, may as well winter in Siberia. Minnesotans are also even more extreme bandwagon jumpers than we have in Wisconsin. In the mid-90s, there were a few days in which the St. Paul Saints outdrew the Twins and the year before Randy Moss, approximately half the Vikings games were blacked out.
  14. Escobar is pretty much a garbage hitter. Good glove, no hit. I'm glad that Melvin flipped him when he still had value. Let the Royals keep giving him at bats based on his 'potential'.
  15. And compare their college stats: Griffin - 18.8 points, 11.8 rebounds, 2.1 assists, .631 TS% Williams - 17.7 points, 7.7 rebounds, .9 assists, .674 TS% So Griffin is a better passer and rebounder and they're pretty much the same scorers though Williams was more efficient. I'm not saying Williams is going to be as good as Griffin but he's incredibly underrated. The low rebound total is a concern. Though he destroyed Duke, Williams didn't play against many quality big men in the Pac 10. You make a good comparison, but Griffin is taller and more athletic in my opinion. Personally, I think he's the best player in the draft, but like I said for whatever reason, he makes my 'bust radar' go off.
  16. I think Williams is a small forward in the pros. I liked his game close to the basket at AZ, but how will that translate to the NBA? He shot the lights out last year as well. There's a lot to like, but something about him screams 'bust' to me- he actually reminds me a lot of Marvin Williams, a little stockier but the same kind of game.
  17. Scratch that plan then.
  18. As others have said, I would recommend fantasy baseball owners to pick up whoever will replace Pujols in the lineup. I would assume that Berkman will be shifting to first, so the guy will be the LF. The Cardinals are so lucky, that guy will probably be a bonafide stud for the rest of the summer.
  19. I was a basher, and I'm glad that I was wrong- however, last year at this point, his season was definitely looking Suppanesque with an E.R.A. well over 5, etc. Can you blame folks for getting a little anxious?
  20. I'm surprised that the Cardinals haven't been doing a Posey-like media blitz on how Betemit is a dirty player. If this is a serious injury, I'm sure that will be forthcoming.
  21. At this point, I'm willing to concede that Betancourt needs to be replaced. He's been in a slump for about 6 weeks. At the same time, I'm glad they dumped Escobar because he's a bad player as well. Hardy is absolutely tearing it up in Baltimore, so I'm not sure if he's going to be a realistic target.
  22. Here is one that I would strongly consider, though I don't know if the Wolves would since apparently they are moving Flynn. Bogut for Ridnour, Milicic and #20 this year and Minnesota's 2012 first. If Minnesota added Bogut, the #2 and Rubio to what they have (Love, Beasley, etc.), it's almost a sure sure bet that we won't be looking at a #2 again next season, but the odds are pretty high that it would still be a lottery pick in what by all accounts will be a deeper draft. Not to mention that this would help ensure a Bucks 'tank', so they'd probably be looking at two lottery picks next year, along with the 10 and 20 this year. It worked in the trade checker, so I'm not sure whether the draft picks would render it moot. I'm no expert on NBA capology.
  23. If Damon gets 3,000 hits, he's pretty much a lock. I don't really think of him as a Hall of Famer, but the same could be said about guys like Bruce Sutter and Tony Perez. Any non-juicer that gets 3,000 hits has pretty much punched their ticket. Frankly, his numbers are actually pretty comparable to Yount's. People bag on Damon for making only 2 ASG, but Robin only made 3. Don't get me wrong, I would get in a barroom argument for hours if someone tried to convince me that Damon was better than Robin, but still.
  24. I'm going out on a limb here, but I don't think there is one guy in this draft that you can build around.
  25. Bogut was a top 10 center in the league the year before last- arguably even better. You don't trade a talent like that to move up 8 spots in a weak draft and pick up the #20 pick, especially when he's shown a willingness to play in Milwaukee.
