  1. One of the problems with him playing Kotsay is that he's the primary backup outfielder. Wouldn't it make sense to get rid of Counsell to open up another spot for an outfielder? Everyone says Counsell is not hurting the team in his mercy at bats, but he is eating up a spot that could be used on someone who can actually play.
  2. Honestly, who cares? This thread is getting into 'classy' territory. Kind of like debating the decorum of booing guys. Are we Cardinal fans?
  3. I love Bowden's response to a question regarding whether the Brewers would prefer Furcal or Carroll: Jim Bowden: believe it or not...Carroll Another interesting tidbit, the Nats are asking for BJ Upton for Desmond. What planet are they living on?
  4. The Brewers have won 75% of their games against Pittsburgh over the past 5 seasons. Until that changes, it's pretty easy to overlook them. I'm still not convinced that they are legit, but we'll see.
  5. The Brewers have a favorable schedule the rest of the way and 34 of 59 are at home. Since they met my goal of getting out of this road trip in first, in my view if they can't lock up the division it's a big time failure. If they can take care of business within the division at home, things should take care of themselves. Pittsburgh still has 33 road games.
  6. My guess is that she will become 'bigger' in death than she was in life a la Cobain. She seems to have the right mix ...talent, 'eclectivity', and short career.
  7. Actually this is a good point that I hadn't considered.
  8. Though it seems like Hart has been mostly invisible this season, if you look at his numbers, he's earning his money. I'm just hoping that he can go on one of his hot streaks down the stretch.
  9. Furcal would absolutely be riskier, I agree- but nothing ventured, nothing gained.
  10. Is Yuni a 'good' or even average player, no? Is he a better option every day at shortstop than Carroll? I'd say yes. Carroll would be a good utility guy, as he's basically a younger Counsell. In a way, I want the Brewers to get him, because it would be very hard to justify keeping Counsell around. Like I said, I see only two realistic options for an upgrade everyday player at short- Barmes and Furcal. I think Houston still owes a favor for the Brewers giving them Loretta for Ginter/Franklin.
  11. If we are talking small sample sizes, lets throw out this year, and look at the career stats. Furcal has a higher batting average and a much higher slugging pct. Carroll has the edge with OBP, because he walks more. Both have been bad at the plate recently, but Furcal has the edge for several reasons. Higher upside at the plate, history of playing shortstop everyday, switch hitter, some power, younger, etc. Where does Carroll have the edge, getting on base? Let Beane sign him up and bat him ahead of David DeJesus. I'd have no problem acquiring Carroll as a utility guy, if the cost was low and he supplanted Counsell on the roster, but he is not an upgrade as a starter at short in my view.
  12. So you are alright with mentioning that Carroll's been struggling as of late, but what of Furcal's entire season? Despite his crappy year to this point, Furcal has more HR and RBI than Carroll in less than 40% of the PA. Furcal also has some upside as he had an all star season last year. Carroll on the other hand is old, has never played SS full time in a season and has homered less in the past 5 years than Yuni has to this point in the season.
  13. Intentional or not it was an "up yours" gesture. It can be considered an obscene gesture. Maybe you don't, but others do.I don't find a split second obscene gesture offensive, and I don't see the harm if it wasn't captured on TV. I've heard and observed much more obscene things from fans generally several times over each time I've been to Miller Park. If they did get flipped 'the bird', I'm sure that they deserved it.
  14. Vizquel, Carroll, Desmond- none of these guys are clear upgrades over Yuni. The only possibilities that I see out there are Barmes or Furcal.
  15. You keep saying Carroll wouldn't be an upgrade without saying why. I just fail to see how a .290/.375 type guy who plays better defense than Betancourt WOULDN'T be a clear upgrade? I said precisely why I don't want Carroll. I hate watching guys going up to the plate with the primary objective of drawing a walk to boost their OBP. That hasn't been working for Counsell very well this summer, as pitchers have been pounding him in the strike zone now that it's common knowledge that he can't hit. Carroll has absolutely no pop in his bat whatsoever. He's also been hitting like Counsell for the past several weeks.
  16. I heard only small doses of her music, but I'd agree. She didn't really look how she sounded- after I heard the song, I was surprised to see that she was a youngish English girl.
  17. I really don't. This has been going on forever, and before the advent of a gazillion camera angles, camera phones, 24 hour sports news and the Internet, this wouldn't have even registered a blip on the sporting landscape.
  18. 'Rehab' was pretty big a few summers ago. I remember because I was in the process of getting a root canal and heard it several times in my dentist's office during appointments. I'd certainly never heard of her before that, but I'm not exactly the go to guy when it comes to newer music either.
  19. Wow, only 27. Unfortunately, it seems like this was pretty much an unavoidable end. Has any one hit wonder ever gotten so much publicity?
  20. I'd rather by 'crassy' than 'classy'. It ticks Cardinal and Giants fans off.
  21. I'm not saying that Yuni is a 'good player', and I'd be all in for a true upgrade, but at least he has shown the ability to hit the ball hard. He's pretty much had two short hot streaks at the plate, enveloped by two longer droughts. That said, I don't think that a guy like Carroll- whose primary offensive 'strength' is the ability to draw a walk- would be an upgrade.
  22. This is true. As long as it isn't crystal clear on TV, I don't see the issue. I heard a lot worse from players in the bleachers at County Stadium back in the day.
  23. I'd agree on both points, but it does seem like a lot of guys have struggled post ASG. Capuano is another one.
  24. I really don't think Carroll is an upgrade. He's been hitting like crap for the past month, and I don't think his defense at shortstop would make up for it.
