  1. Exactly. I'm fully preparing for a Yankees vs. Cardinals or Giants W.S. I'm not sure who I would pull for in a Giants vs. Cardinals NLCS.
  2. I'll stand by my contention that Cabrera deserves the MVP. Winning the Triple Crown in this day and age is an amazing feat. Think about it, no one has done it since the leagues had 10 teams each with no DH. The number of qualifiers for the batting title alone has to have increased 50 percent.
  3. Nice win by the Orioles. I'll be pulling for them moving forward. Can't believe that the studs that the Rangers acquired from the Cubs at the deadline didn't put them over the top.
  4. The Cabrera/Trout thing is getting like one of those fake ESPN controversies. In my opinion, 'archaic stats' or not, winning the Triple Crown and going to the playoffs gets Cabrera the award going away. Obviously, Trout had a phenomenal year, and I'm a huge fan (had him in fantasy), but OBP, steals and defense aren't going to get him the award. Cabrera did something that hasn't been accomplished during most of our lifetimes. Another thing that people haven't been talking about is that Trout tailed off a bit down the stretch, pretty much coinciding with the Angels' swoon, while Cabrera was outstanding in leading the Tigers to the division title from behind. A no-brainer if you ask me.
  5. I can't believe that Veras is getting love on this thread. Personally, he's at the top of my 'let go' list, I can't stand how the guy pitches, and I lost all patience with him by the All Star break. There is a reason that he's been on like eight teams in eight years, and he's worth nowhere near what he would get in arby. As for the other guys, I'd have no interest in bringing Loe or K-Rod back. I've about had it with Parra too. Maybe you trade him for a similar no tender candidate. The only one that I'd keep for sure from the Opening Day roster would be Axford. I'm not sure who I'd bring in, but I'd sign a couple of vets- at least one of whom has some closing experience. I'd also invite as many guys as possible to Spring Training on NRI's. Bottom line, no matter what you do, they can't be worse than they were this season.
  6. Don't get me wrong, I'm a huge fan of Trout and he's been amazing for his age... but if Cabrera wins the Triple Crown, he has to be the MVP. I can't believe that he's not even 30 years old yet. The Marlins made one of the worst trades ever when they traded him.
  7. I saw this and immediately thought of this article related to a former Gagne teammate....definitely a '20 Percenter'. http://www.theonion.com/articles/turns-out-craig-counsell-was-actually-best-basebal,6581/
  8. That's a very good question. I would be inclined to say that it would count toward the regular season win total, as it would be included in the team's official final record and player stats. To me, it's kind of like betting an over in a football game and having it go to overtime. The only way to be sure would be to call the sports book that you bought the ticket from and ask.
  9. The one that came to mind for me right away was '91 team. They went on a pretty big run that started at about the same time of the one this season. A quick check of BR found that they had a 21-9 stretch during August and September. I think the '92 team was pretty close to that down the stretch as well, but I'm too lazy to check. Didn't they start 16-1 in '87? I know they had the big losing streak, but I thought that was a few weeks after the winning streak ended. EDIT Just found a few 23-7 stretches in Aug/Sept of '92.
  10. I think Segura has the SS job locked up moving forward. I don't think that the Brewers would give him extended playing time this season, only to demote him to AAA next year. He hasn't been a world beater, but he hasn't embarrassed himself either and he's been showing some flashes of his ability. That's enough for me.
  11. Why not? I can't help but wonder why the Pirates have been purging their bullpen the past few months. They started tinkering with the strength of their team, and what do you know, the downward spiral began.
  12. Braun has had a better season than Posey, and it's not really that close. You don't give the edge to Posey solely because he is a catcher... he is by no stretch a great defensive catcher. All that said, Braun has absolutely no chance of winning.
  13. I was skeptical about the move, but ARam has won me over. The offensive production has been good, but I've actually been more pleasantly surprised by his defense. He also seems to be a good guy and teammate.
  14. It absolutely blows my mind that the Brewers would have only been a game out of the WC as we stand if they had pulled out the W on Sunday.
  15. Well, the Pirates certainly are who we thought they were. I wouldn't be a bit surprised if the Brewers finished ahead of them at the end of the season.
  16. Gonzalez had a vesting option, that won't vest. He most likely won't be back, and if he is, it will be at a substantial discount.
  17. Segura probably shouldn't have been called up until today... and he has looked a tad over his head, but I'm not going to squawk about it too much since he's been playing quite a bit. There are more Suppan like players in AAA than there are in AA. Right, at the same time, there are more Eric Arnett and Christian Guerrero like players in AA than AAA.
  18. From what I remember, for a year or two in the late 70's the Uecker actually did a few innings on the TV broadcasts. Part of me thinks that he may have been involved with the home games back on the ill-fated SportsVue network way back in the day too- but that could have just been related to the fact that the volume on the TV games was often turned down with the radio on in my house.
  19. The Twin Cities market size is a bit misleading. A significant amount of 'Twins Territory' (on the basis of square milage alone) is more than three hours away from MSP... remote outposts like the Dakotas. As for population base, there are a ton of people living in the MSP metro area (dwarfing Milwaukee), but the rest of the state is sparse. They are basically Iowa with a big metro area. Obviously, the Twins broadcast to a greater amount of people on TV, but in I'd bet that the Brewers have a bigger population base to draw from within 150 miles or so from the stadium. P.S. Minnesota fans are the biggest bandwagoners I've ever seen.
  20. Cool. The Brewers finally found a lead that Veras can't blow.
  21. Don't the Brewers get salary relief if Wolf is picked up to the extent of - prorated minimum salary ($480K)? So they would save approx $80K. Yes. I forgot about this, though I'm not sure that kind of cash is much salary relief. Not sure how I could forget about this a few years after the Cardinals added insult to injury by kicking the Brewers about .2 percent of the remaining money they owed Soup.
  22. Yes, but I don't think salary relief is forthcoming. Unless I missed something, Wolf was released outright.
  23. But Crawford was always on the cover of all the fantasy baseball magazines, and perennially on top of all the cheat sheets....
  24. Looks to be a done deal now. The Dodgers are making the kind of moves that George Steinbrenner did back in the early/mid 80's, trading for overpaid, washed up 'name' players with no farm system to speak of.
  25. Wow, what a revolting trade for the Dodgers. This new ownership obviously has money burning a hole in their pockets. It'd be like buying a new bakery and then going out and buying two warehouses full of stale Wonder bread. What is the delay, are they waiting for medical reports on John Lackey or something?
