  1. Why do people go on business trips when almost everything could be accomplished with technology these days? Same reason- there are some intangible benefits about seeing something/somebody in person, but it's also a perk.
  2. Must Veras make everything a white knuckle affair? How come I haven't seen his name bandied about much in trade rumors? I'd move him now, even though I haven't given up on the season yet. I certainly would non-tender him this off-season.
  3. There is no such thing as a career year in a contract year. Every year you play to your career norms. Yep, just a statistical anomaly, I'm sure. People have never been extra motivated for money.
  4. I'd be inclined to agree with you if Chris Berman wasn't 'announcing'. I enjoyed the first few, but haven't been a fan since. Kind of like the NBA slam dunk and three point contests. I'd almost prefer that they brought the old timers game back or something... at least it's kind of fun to see all of the old guys.
  5. I'm so glad that the Brewers didn't overpay Reyes. I think it's pretty safe to say that he had a career year last season playing for a contract.
  6. I also wouldn't be a bit surprised if Braun respectably declined Kemp's invitation behind the scenes.
  7. This is why people severely underrate Hart. Where would you get this type of production year after year for his salary. Just saw a post on another thread suggesting that Hart could fetch a 'Top 75' prospect. I think that it's a huge stretch to think that some guy that a magazine ranked in the top 75 minor league players would be able to replace that production. So what do you do, go to the free agent market and overpay someone else to provide it? As for Wolf, he's had bad stretches every season that he's been here. I'm hoping that's the case now, but he looks cooked to me- along with his trade value at this point. He's proven me wrong and earned his money, but I wouldn't be on board for signing like pitchers to similar contracts anymore down the road. I'd rather pony up for Greinke and pair him with a rookie than sign another Suppan/Wolf combo for the same price and listen to everyone say that the Brewers paid the 'going rate' for middling 'innings eaters' on the free agent market (or the "He was the #2/#3 whatever starter available"- that one bugs the heck out of me.)
  8. Aoki is not a very good CF, but he's good in right. As stated, Hart is pretty much 1B now. I'll take the defense from our CF combo, any offense provided is pretty much gravy... they just need to limit the boneheadedness.
  9. Wow, the Brewers were close to being perhaps the only team in baseball history to run into three outs in an inning. Wonder if that has ever happened before.
  10. Drabek also got them Roy Halladay. I would take a few years of Roy over a half season of CC any day. The Jays had better hope that catcher comes through, or that one is going to look horrible. Another cautionary tale of trading a star for prospects. My point in this whole thing is twofold. First, their history shows that the Phillies are not going to give Hamels away for a substandard package. Second, the whole prospect/star thing that I alluded to above.
  11. Wow this is a big one. One of the few shows that has stood the test of over 50 years. You don't see many shows from the early 60's that are still on TV almost every day (if not every day)
  12. You're right. I had my years mixed up with the Phillies. Well, they could have swept the World Series then
  13. Again, it's something catered to the fans. Fans would love to see Braun win it, just like they did when Prince won it. I'm not so sure the national fan wants to see Braun in it. Another good point. Do we really want to see Braun get booed every swing on national TV?
  14. Philly seems to always overvalue their players when it comes to deadline deals. I remember that they wouldn't pull the trigger on a C.C. deal because they wouldn't part with (I believe) Kyle Drabek, he of the career 8 wins, 5+ ERA, WHIP nearing 1.7 and now with a major injury. CC could have made the difference for them in the W.S. that year... meanwhile the Brewers rode his back to the playoffs without giving up much at all. Ironically, the Phillies did make another W.S. run in 2009, fleecing Cleveland for Cliff Lee. After losing, they were fleeced for Lee by Seattle that offseason. This is a perfect example of why teams on both side should proceed with caution when it comes to overvaluing prospects.
  15. It's a somewhat embarrassing bump (but I wasn't that excited...). Now find me the 'Brewers sign Jeff Suppan' thread from webarchives and I will start pounding my chest.
  16. What good can come from it? He wins? Big deal. I will grant you that the 'HR derby jinx' may be a old wive's tale, but I've certainly heard it used over the years. Also with Braun's history of fairly minor/nagging injuries, why take a chance of anything even if it's a remote chance? More bad then good can come from him being in the derby.
  17. I don't want Olt. It's going to have to be pitching (one with potential to be an upper rotation starter) and/or a shortstop. Otherwise, no deal.
  18. If I'm not mistaken, Prince went on his longest homerless drought of the season after the ASG and Rickie really fell off. Related to the HR derby or not, I could care less if Braun is not in. Am I the only one who feels like watching it is like watching paint dry? Not only that, but you have to watch it with mute on if you do watch, because Chris Berman is one of the 5 most annoying people on Earth. What is the over/under on 'back/back/back'? I'll say 150.
  19. You get the best return you can for Greinke....if they will include Profar(doubtful) great but if they won't then either you take their best offer or a better one from somebody else. I disagree strongly. I think that the Brewers dictate who they want in a deal or they prepare themselves to take the draft choices if necessary. I'm tired of seeing every blip about Greinke focused on indicating who the other team won't include in a deal. Well, in my view, it's go big or go home for Greinke. He would be a game changer for anyone down the stretch and if they don't want to trade someone that is likely 1 year or more away for him, let them get a substandard option. I'd take OBO for Randy Wolf if it came to that, but not Greinke. The Brewers need to remember that they are in the driver's seat here.
  20. I'm actually glad about this ASG stuff. It seems like any time that the Brewers have someone in the derby, they go into a slump afterward. I really couldn't care less about the ASG anymore, which started right about the time that the players stopped caring about it.
  21. Why would the Brewers want the Orioles third option at shortstop? If they want Greinke, they would need to give up Machado, who looks to be at least two years away anyways. If no one will give up a blue chip guy, just take the picks and use one of them for the best shortstop prospect available.
