  1. Ever heard the phrase, 'million dollar arm, five cent head'?
  2. Good one. Someone should Photoshop the face of Deion Sanders, Roger Clemens, etc. onto the photo above.
  3. Very sad news. I remember when the Monkees got big again in the '80's, and I always associate them with the '87 team.
  4. In my opinion, some overrate Morgan's trade value while at the same time underrating his value to the team, if that makes any sense. To be honest, I don't expect anything from Aoki at this point. He might turn out to be good, he may turn out to be crap. Anything he does is gravy to me, as I don't put much stock in stats from Japan. I don't think that anyone is going to know what the Brewers have in Aoki until he gets some games under his belt. I agree that there is a lot of duplicitous talent here, but there is little trade value of the three likely on the MLB roster. If Schafer goes to Nashville and picks up where he left off, he would have the most value on the market of any of them.
  5. I believe that this is my first contribution to this thread (usually my venting is done on the Major League board), but anyway.... I caught an ad last night for the upcoming NCAA tournament. It appears that they will be ramming another 'theme song' down our throats every 5 minutes, every game, with non-stop airings of ads when the games aren't on. I still have that 'Written in the Stars' song in my head as well as the ESPN 'Champ of the World' (or whatever) bowl song. Obviously, this is some type of cross promotional effort, but I find it incredibly irritating. Hopefully, FSN has taken that 'Crossing Over State Lines' song, by Matt Hires (couldn't help but know the name of the artist) out of the que as well.
  6. I am interested in knowing if the mild weather thing will continue here through the rest of winter, or if we will get a late cold spell or big snow dump. Something's got to give. I'd be willing to bet that we will get a foot snowfall in March. In two weeks, I will be making a long drive North to visit the in-laws, it seems that nearly every time I make that trip there is some form of 'weather' regardless of the season. I've already penciled in a huge snow or ice storm for that weekend.
  7. Haven't heard of a lot of these acts, but with some of them that I have heard of, you may want to change the premise to 'before they die'. The only one that I can think of would be something involving Page/Plant, but I think that window has closed. I'm still kicking myself for missing them both times they came to the B.C. in the 90's (back when big tours still stopped in MKE).
  8. I know that many discount 'clubhouse chemistry', but I worry about the loss of guys like Hawkins, Kotsay and Counsell a bit in that aspect of things. Sveum also seemed like a 'grizzled teammate mentor' in that sense as well. Hopefully, some of the guys who've been here for awhile now will step in to fill this void.
  9. Frankly, a lot of my optimism for the Brewers this season is rooted in the fact that they get to play these guys 18 times (with roughly the same number against the Cubs and Pirates).
  10. I think that it's pretty good. Frankly, if you'd have told me 6-7 years ago that Eddie would ever complete a new album, I'd have never believed you. I think that having his son in the band is the only reason that he has made it this far, so I'm good with it.
  11. Agreed. I hate ring 'harlots' with a passion, in any sport.
  12. I don't know what to think with the article in today's paper quoting the 'experts' as saying that degradation could not have led to this result. 'Kill the messenger', but I also feel that this Dino guy likely did not violate MLB testing protocol. Was there a written policy at the time (I bet there is now) that disallowed keeping the sample on ice/in the fridge at home for a night or two? My guess is there was not, as the guy is still working for MLB. Bottom line, my guess is that the truth will come out someday. I hope Braun is telling the truth. If he is not, one of his 'associates' will spill the beans. If he's found to be lying, his press conference will make the denials by Palmeiro and Bonds look like nothing (though it won't leave him open for perjury charges, I guess). I'm waiting to see whether he files a lawsuit. If he doesn't, I'll find that a little telling. You wouldn't file a lawsuit if you had skeletons in your own closet.
  13. When I saw this one at the top of the board, I was scared that they brought him back or something reminiscent of the Gibbons bump. Don't scare me like that.
  14. Maybe this was covered earlier in the thread and I just don't remember, but the big thing that is still confusing to me is how the second test came back positive for synthetic testosterone if Braun was, in fact, totally clean. Exactly. Perhaps someone could set me straight, but as far as I know with my limited scientific knowledge, there should be no way that human urine could degrade into synthetic testosterone. If that's the case, there can only be two ways the sample was positive. To me, after watching Braun yesterday, the crux of his argument is going to be the courier's incompetence/possible tampering, and nothing scientific. Though he mentioned offering a DNA test, I thought it was interesting that he didn't say anything about the rumored retest and lie detector. Not saying that he's guilty, but let's be real, Braun is a smooth character to begin with- I'd bet he's been tweaking that news conference for weeks with lawyers/PR people. With that kind of preparation, the guy could sell ice to Eskimos.
  15. I don't think that there is any doubt that Selig becoming 'Interim' Commissioner hurt the Brewers far worse than it helped them, if for no reason than the fact that Laurel and Wendy took over the day to day operations of the club. You can basically track the decline of the club back to September of '92 when Selig took the gig. It was probably one of the worst things that could have happened to the team when you think about it. Bottom line, all the fans of other teams with the whole Selig/Brewers conspiracy are incredibly irritating to me.
  16. On the other thread, I made the point that if the collector had violated MLB procedure by keeping the pee sample in his basement, he probably wouldn't be down at Spring Training right now.
  17. The way I see it, you can't have it both ways. Either you believe that Braun juiced, or you believe that the collector was up to no good. I watched Braun's speech, and he all but directly accused the guy of tainting his test. It was really his only defense. It seems that a lot of people who believe that Braun is telling the truth are saying 'back off Dino', but I want to hear his side of the story.
  18. ESPN died when the Three Stooges (Berman, Patrick, Olbermann) started thinking they were comedians bigger than the game. It was buried when Disney bought the network, and they started to represent themselves as some sort of paragon of virtue.
  19. Based on what I've seen, there seems to be little reason to suspect this guy of any malfeasance. I guess it all comes down to the formal policy regarding bringing the sample to Fed Ex. If he did break policy though, and was too lazy to drop the sample, I am surprised that he's still working for MLB.
  20. I don't know, but there are a lot of stupid people in this world. My guess is that money would probably be the motivating factor in such a scenario. Though my gut still tells me that Braun probably juiced, the fact that someone whose sole job is to collect and deliver (in a timely fashion) a sample to FedEx, and couldn't even complete that simple task does leave reasonable doubt in my mind. I'm looking forward to finding out more about this person
  21. Why should they be protected? If they did in fact tamper with the sample, public scrutiny of them would probably make them crack. If not, they have nothing to hide.
  22. I think that it would be awesome if the Brewers players banded together and boycotted ESPN and their reporters for the season. Just don't talk to anyone associated with ESPN. They give the Brewers little to no coverage anyway, but why not? One of my favorite baseball moments of the last 20 years was when Chad Curtis dissed that dweeb Jim Gray on live national TV after a playoff game.
  23. Personally, I'm going to withhold judgement until Rick Reilly checks in... BTW: Tim Kurkjian is the John Clayton of baseball.
  24. The issue is that none of those guys have much trade value at this point. If you are planning to compete this year, you don't flip veterans for minor leaguers.
