  1. Wow. I thought that I was a negative person. I'm thinking the Cardinals used up a lot of their lucky breaks tonight. It's just one game in a seven game series, folks. Did anyone honestly expect Marcum to be on his game? I'll be disappointed if the Brewers don't get 2 of 3 in St. Louis. I don't have much confidence in Wolf, but I think the Gallardo and Greinke starts are W's. Did I miss something, and Carpenter turned into Bob Gibson or something? Wasn't he like 1-7 at one point this year? He is certainly capable of being lit up.
  2. Hanley is much rarer talent than either Braun or fielder though. I don't know. I'm not even sure if I would claim him for 'free' on waivers right now. He was terrible this year after getting paid- worse than Yuni. Now he has a shoulder problem.
  3. For what it's worth, I'm not bagging on fantasy baseball either. I'm an enthusiast myself. However, I believe the explosion of that genre has overrated some guys. I think Crawford is the prime example. In many Rotisserie type 5x5 leagues, Crawford has been rated as a top 5 or top 10 overall hitter for the past few years. No way has Carl Crawford ever been a top 10 position player in MLB. Mostly due to the weakness at shortstop overall (which I will grant warrants some argument), guys like Hanley Ramirez and Reyes have been overrated by fantasy as well.
  4. What is your argument here? The guy is a legit hitter for his position, has great speed, & plays passable defense at SS (at the very worst). He might not be a good idea for a team like the Brewers to sign long-term, but he's definitely worth a ton. I don't want the Brewers giving him crazy money on the rebound from Prince. He's going to get 6 years, $90-some million, minimum. He's coming off a career season, and has been injury prone. Is he a very good player with upside? Of course. Is he a nearly $100 million player? In my view, no way. I I'd rather have something like Barmes, JHJ, Jack Wilson, Saito, Hawkins than Reyes. The salaries would probably match and most could be had on a one year deal. If you want to get real ambitious- though I'm not a big fan of him- I'm guessing that you could get Aramis Ramirez + Clint Barmes combined for about the same annual salary as Reyes on 2-3 year deals.
  5. Barmes is my target. I'm thinking that you could get Barmes, JHJ and another vet infield backup to take Counsell's role combined for a little over half of what Reyes will get alone- and you won't have to give them a six year deal. Reyes just isn't as good as advertised. Like Crawford, in my view, he's largely a creation of fantasy baseball. He's much more valuable in that realm (depending on how much your league overvalues steals) than in real baseball. Career season at the plate (by far) in a contract season, and below average defensively. Yes, I know that he's fast and 'exciting', but so is Carlos Gomez for about an eighth of the cost. If the Brewers are going to spend huge money on a guy, it had better be Prince.
  6. Great point...don't forget St. Louis transplant Bob Costas. I've actually enjoyed all those guys over the years...I even like Joe Buck (I know, I'm in the minority). Ragging on BA is just sour grapes...the guy is a true pro. He was not homering on Braun's first shot. He did get excited on Prince's shot, but it was a defining moment in the game that any announcer would have gotten jacked for. It's the drama of the situation not the team or being a homer announcer. I really like this announcing team. BA is great, Darling is as blunt as they come and Smoltz is solid too...not sure about that goofy sideline reporter, but overall they are solid. Costas is another good one, and I forgot about Dizzy Dean- who, though way before most of our time, was probably the first 'big' national TV announcer. No wonder the Cardinal fans have the undeserved rep as being the 'best fans in the game'. They've had their mouthpieces doing the game of the week almost continuously since it's inception.
  7. In my view, Reyes will be this off season's Carl Crawford. Mark it down. Someone's going to give him way too much money, and I hope it's not the Brewers.
  8. So they're complaining about BA. I suppose they are not used to having full blown Cardinals homers on the national broadcasts since forever (Garagiola, Jack Buck, Tim McCarver, Joe Schm... I mean Buck, etc.)
  9. A) Using McGehee as a pinch hitter with all four lefties available still. B) Bunting with Weeks, who is never really asked to, plus if it was successful they would've walked Hairston to get to Betancourt with the bases loaded. I'll at least look past the second part I guess since Betancourt looked better than Weeks at the plate in the series. C) I can't believe this hasn't been mentioned anywhere, but Kameron Loe was warming up in the bullpen when Gallardo was struggling a bit to get out of the 6th. Not only is he at best the 3rd best option there (Saito and Hawkins, plus I'd rather see Greinke than Loe there), but there was a lefty on deck for Arizona. I guess there's no telling if he would've brought him in or not, but the fact that it got that close is maddening. I was fine with A. B was a no-brainer to me. You are a major league player, get the bunt down. Even if Hairston is walked, Yuni is the king of the Sac fly. I will admit that I cursed at the TV when I saw Loe warming up, hopefully that was a bluff of some sort. By the way.... in my view, if Macha was manager, we wouldn't even be having this discussion right now. I'll be shocked if he ever gets another MLB managerial job.
  10. Didn't that Jen Sterger girl start out as being a 'photogenic superfan' type as well? She parlayed that into a job with the Jets and garnered the attention of a lonely QB. Perhaps 'Front Row Amy' is making a push for the Brewers to re-institute the game host. May not be a bad idea, if you think about it. She couldn't be worse than the other gal who did it.
  11. I may not have been watching the same two games as some of you guys because his defense was stellar in my view. He made every play that he should have and more, turned a couple of nice DP's and every throw was right on the mark. For goodness sake, there were people in the IGT criticizing him for not getting to Cowgill's single the other day when he was positioned nearly behind second base. As for the run to second yesterday, had he tossed it and it had been dropped, I have a feeling that the same folks ripping him for running it to the bag would have been saying 'he should have taken it himself'. The guy just can't win with some people.
  12. As I've said before, I'd bet that there is more to it than she would have us believe. Am I to believe that she is a fetching (and buxom) lass wearing bright and tight fitting clothing who just happens to be in the front row (and prominently displayed with every lefty hitter up..... driving from Oshkosh to attend games alone- solely because she is a die hard Brewer fan? Not that I'm complaining, mind you, but I think that you'd have to be incredibly naive to believe that. This girl is beginning to get national attention due to the wonders of HDTV.
  13. They've got timeshare people in Miller Park? I must be lucky, because I've never been hassled. They are the worst. When they approach me in Vegas, I always ask them how the bankruptcy that I filed last week would affect my application. Usually they leave me alone then.
  14. I don't really fear the Cards. Their lineup is much better than Arizona, but to me, their starting pitchers are OK, but not great. I think the Brewers can knock any one of those guys around in a given game. The bullpen has been pretty sketchy as well. At any rate, it's a no-brainer to prefer playing them as opposed to seeing Halladay, Lee and Hamels at least 5 times in a 7 game series, not even considering Oswalt, Worley and a much better pen. The Phillies also have a ton of legit left handed hitters, and Hunter Pence who has killed the Brewers over his career. I'll take my chances with the Cardinals any day.
  15. They spared us from the national media extolling the greatness of the Phillies every 30 seconds during the NLCS broadcasts. Too bad Halladay vetoed the trade to Milwaukee. Now he can watch the Brewers from home.
  16. I thought about reviving the 'What Does Yuni Betancourt Bring to the Team' thread, but I feel this is a separate topic. Yuni delivered one of the biggest hits in franchise history and was money in the field today. He left it all on the field. Just wanted to give some of the haters the opportunity to bow down and apologize. Line up, boys.
  17. Anxiety? This game took 5 years off my life- but it was worth it, I probably would have went into a five month depression had they lost.
  18. I'll take a 1 run single. Morgan is the MAN!
  19. Small sample.... Seriously, that's my feeling too- I'm the superstitious sort. Frankly, I wish they'd leave the panels closed as well- Aaron Hill doesn't need any help getting a wall scraper down the line in the top of the first after Bloomquist reaches on a swinging bunt.
  20. I'd say no. Posada is kind of like the Bernie Williams of catchers to me. Very good player on a lot of great teams, but never won an MVP and doesn't have the counting stats. Posada has roughly the same amount of career hits as Thurman Munson. If I'm voting for a Yankee catcher, it'd be him. I'll let someone else make the Ted Simmons argument.
  21. Don't get me wrong, I like the guy. However, I'd rather see him on ESPN for delivering a 2 run single than hamming it up in an interview on the seventh line 'hack journalist show' on that network. Actually, I rarely watch ESPN by choice. That's another complaint thread of it's own....
  22. I'm just hoping Lucroy has some revenge on his mind after the diss that Kennedy gave him to the media. Revenge would best be served with a three run jack in this case.

  24. OK. With all due respect to TooLiveBrew for the CD picture, I'll bite with a photo of the last Game 5 in Milwaukee...... This is on the condition that you young pups do the same when they win tonight. Just remember, 60 security guys and a few dozen cops cannot stop or contain throngs of thousands of fans.
  25. I'd rather see Hairston hitting 2 with Morgan in the 8 hole personally. Have to get people on base for Braun and Fielder. Given how Morgan has played in this series, I'd have been very tempted to give Gomez another start today. Just a hunch, but he's the type of guy who could come up huge in a situation like this.
