  1. Just to clarify, are you saying that Molitor was invited back as a player after his initial departure to Toronto or are you using that $1 million offer from the Brewers before he left as your example of when he was invited back as a player? From what I've always heard from people connected in the Twins organization..... Molitor almost returned to Milwaukee after '95. The Brewers had a better financial offer on the table than the Twins and added a bunch of perks for a post playing career. It was nearly a done deal, but his wife at the time was from the Twin Cities, didn't want to return to Milwaukee, and put the kibosh on it. They made a similar offer after 98 (?) but he chose to retire. I believe that he's been asked to coach a few times, if not interview for the managerial position. I remember reading that one of the first things Attanasio did was to reach out to him. By the way, I've always heard that the Brewer '93 offer was a one deal deal around 2.5 million- take it or leave it. As the off season dragged on, Molitor and his agent were basically awestruck how uninterested the Brewers were, so they started negotiating with other teams. Molitor definitely had planned to retire a Brewer. I remember a quote when he singed his last Brewer contract in the late 80's something to the effect that he'd retire a Brewer 'unless something really weird happens'. I guess Selig ascending to commish and Bando reigning as GM qualifies as 'weird...
  2. Bando offered arbitration after he was informed that Molitor was going to sign with Toronto. He did so to save a little face and get the draft picks (I believe they ended up as garbage like Joe Wagner, etc.). Molitor was gracious enough to let this happen. After a deadline day with absolutely no news, I remember watching Hunt on the 10PM TMJ news glowingly announce that Molitor had been offered arby and would be back at least one more year. I went to bed happy and then woke up the next morning to find the awful truth. I still believe that Molitor was allowed to walk to prove a Selig small market point. No one could be that stupid and cheap, could they? Either that or the success of '92 went to Bando's head. He pulled basically the same crap with Kevin Seitzer- basically forcing him to walk when he wanted to stay, and then went out and signed washed up stiffs like Bill Doran and Tom Brunansky. As fans we should have known something was up when Bando traded Dante Bichette for Kevin freaking Reimer during the expansion draft.
  3. I take it that you've never gotten the hard sell from a kid selling a $4 box of candy for 'basketball'. I suppose that we should just gladly pay that as well, because the Brewers are in the playoffs.
  4. Do you really have to complain in every thread now? This is like the 3rd different one I've seen it in. We get it, you hate the policies at MP and would rather stay home. This is the second post, and someone above me sarcastically mentioned the complaints of the other thread. I'm done complaining about this. Stay home then and let everyone else enjoy it. Will do.
  5. I would think that a grill would be cumbersome and very messy. What would it bring you at the recycling center- 87 cents? Perhaps the people who are so tough about clearing the lots after the game should be more stringent in patrolling the lots during the game. Why do they allow derelicts to collect cans and young scam artists to sell candy and other crap for 'charity'? You'd think it would be much easier to crack down on things like that when the game is going on.
  6. In a nutshell, I see it as this. More rules, less civility. More expensive, less fun. If that's 'fan friendly' to you, great. I'll be staying home.
  7. Agreed. Look at the playoff teams this year- most of them have a big hitter at first. I actually think that defense at first has been slightly undervalued historically, but here with Prince it seems overvalued- if that makes any sense.
  8. Can someone not be critical of the Brewers policies at Miller Park? Though I'm probably getting a little old for it, tailgating isn't much fun anymore because of the tremendous number (a vocal minority) of d-bag college age kids and their shenanigans (I'm no prude, by any means, but I don't want my kids getting any ideas). Instead of focusing on this issue, they decide to play hardball and kick people out of the parking lots after the game. I guess that I'm a jerk for not following the company line, which I think is bogus. These guys could win the World Series at home and you guys wouldn't run on the field. You kids are getting soft.
  9. I'd take Hawkins or Saito in a minute. Broxton is a gas can.
  10. I just don't understand who would steal a used Smokey Joe/hibachi. Is there any kind of a black market for them in the secondhand variety? Maybe there are smack heads taking these to get a few bits at the recycling center or something. Doesn't seem worth the effort to me.
  11. Before Pauly went out and did his best Steve Garvey imitation, I heard on pretty good authority that his ex-wife (Linda?) was very steadfast in not wanting him to return to Milwaukee after his contract with Toronto was up.
  12. There was no traffic so you can stop saying that. I was basing it off the original poster who described getting a bum rush by cops/rent-a-cops and Brewer employees on carts with traffic still backed up. I think some of it comes from the Giants Stadium case from about 5 years ago. The beer vendor was found liable for $135 million after a drunk patron paralyzed a 2-year old on the way home. I definitely think that this is mostly due to 'exposure' to a possible lawsuit. For all we know, some ambulance chaser made a killing on an incident out there that was never publicized.
  13. That. Touche. But the real question is whether this recent infusion of 'lifelong Brewer fans' will remain to pay $30 for parking after the next 95 loss season.
  14. Could someone please rename this thread, Things RockCoCougars doesn't like about going to Brewer Games"? Don't get me started, I'd be typing all night. There are many reasons that I let my season tickets lapse about 10 years ago. As pertaining to the topic, I just think that it's somewhat hypocritical that they promote these games as a huge 'event' and price parking accordingly, but then they hustle everyone out of the parking lot when there is gridlock on the service roads, entrance ramps and freeway.
  15. I hear the arguments for charging more during marquee games. If that's the case, why don't they charge more for beer and food inside the stadium as well? Like I said, I can see charging more for a ticket to an 'important' game. Increasing the parking rates, etc. just seems like price gouging to me (yes, I know that the Brewers have every right to do so, you don't need to 'park there', etc.) I also don't like the idea of cutting a check/ making a cc payment ahead of time for parking for 11 games, many that won't be played, it will be cold/rainy out, etc. I'm nomally not one of these guys, but the stadium infrastructure (roads, parking lots, etc) were initially funded by the taxpayers of Milwaukee County and the state. Even though it appears that the 'control' of these lots has passed from Milwaukee County to the Brewers over the years, it doesn't seem right that they can jack the parking prices Carte Blanche and make people pay weeks ahead of time for the overpriced parking.
  16. Another thing to consider is that Robin Yount played his entire career with the Brewers. A decent analogy would be that Robin is Carl Yastrzemski to Molitor's Wade Boggs. Boggs will mostly be remembered as a Red Sox player, but he won his championship and hit his milestones elsewhere.
  17. This is another thing that irks me big time. Opening Day there is literally a 10 minute wait to use a portapotty. Eventually there are groups that begin using the parking lots and/or surrounding greenspace as latrines. It's kind of tough to blame them.
  18. I could care less about the personal stuff. The problem here is that the Brewers have reached out to Molitor several times over the years to return to the organization in some official capacity, and he's declined. He seems to have chosen a post baseball career that doesn't require an extreme amount of dedication, and that's his prerogative- nothing wrong with that. My money says that if he wanted to, he probably would have already been a MLB manager at some point.
  19. How many cars do the MP lots hold? My guess is at least 10,000. Multiply that by 20 bucks minimum, and you should have more than enough revenue to provide for cleanup, security before and after the game and enough to sock away in a rainy day maintenance fund. Again, who gets the money here? It wasn't that long ago that parking was 5 or 6 bucks.
  20. I think the parking tickets prices being "jacked up" for a marquee game is following the same logic as the game ticket prices being "jacked up". Not sure why you would have a problem with one and not the other. Obviously supply and demand for playoff tickets works that demand is much higher than the finite supply, so I can understand the price increase. As for parking, MP is nearly sold out every game, demand for parking would be roughly the same for the playoffs in my opinion. Maybe there are less big groups, etc., but I can't imagine that demand would fluctuate that much from a Saturday night game in July. Why the big price increase then? Who gets the money for parking? I'm assuming that it's the Brewers, but back in the County Stadium days, the county got the money. BTW, I have no problem with them selling advance parking passes. In my opinion, they should sell the passes and then hold one lot open for those who show up on game day. Once that lot is full, post it somewhere on the myriad of illuminated signs and turn them away.... maybe they already do that.
  21. I have a problem with the fact that they jack the parking rates for 'marquee games'. What is the difference between these games and any other? It doesn't make any sense except to gouge... and I have no problem with them jacking the ticket prices for the game. However, if they charge someone that much money to park their car, they should not have the right to boot them from the lot an hour after the game, that's all. Some people don't like dealing with all that traffic gridlock. I've been to hundreds of games over the years, and stayed well over an hour after game time at several of them. I've never once had someone tell me that I had to leave. If I want to sit and eat some cold brats while everyone sits in gridlock, I should be able to. I guarantee that this isn't a 'cleanup' issue- it's another liability concern created by our litigious legal system. I wish they were so concerned about policing the drunken idiots before the game. After the game, most of these folks are either passed out or are looking for the next party. Highly doubtful they will be hanging in the parking lot.
  22. Not sour grapes at all. I could have had tickets to all three LDS games and chose not to go. Between the price gouging on parking, and all the extra hoops that you have to go through just to park, etc., it's just not worth it. Now they are booting people from the parking lots with gridlock in the exits and on the freeway? I bet that they didn't do this in their overpriced 'preferred parking' lots. I've never seen this before, ever. Not on opening day, etc. It's also maddening that the roof is consistently closed on days like we had on Saturday and Sunday. Frankly, I think Miller Park sucks when the roof is closed. It's like watching a game inside an airline hangar. Especially when it should be open, as is often the case in April and May and late in the season. We are in Wisconsin, people can't handle high 50's and sun? If the players can't, tough.... and if 'MLB dictates' this, as they mentioned on the broadcast, it's completely bogus.
  23. Now we can't tailgate after the games after how they gouge people for parking? I'd like to see that rule in writing right on the parking ticket stub. Between things like this and the fact that the roof was closed in perfectly good fall baseball weather, I'm glad I didn't shell out the bucks to go to these games.
  24. How about sending him home to Kansas City for Alex Gordon, or Billy Butler plus a prospect? Either of those guys could step in nicely at first, and with Hosmer, they will could probably move one.
  25. Why does Epstein get a pass? He's the one who wasted literally hundreds of millions on Quasimodo Lackey and Carl Crawford.
