  1. Just an FYI, Dubon and Pennington need to be added to the "New Players to Consider" category in the new Top 25 list
  2. This is pretty reputable company for computers:
  3. I mean, I'm not a big fan of Gallo but what is his resume? Smacking 100 HR everywhere he's been. He hasn't proven anything at the MLB level yet in limited time, but if that's the bar then they should have never traded for Santana, Broxton, Brinson, Hader, etc. To me, Gallo is interesting if his glove is above avg at 1B. then at least you have a great defensive 1B who hits HRs and strikes out a lot. But, as I've said many times, would target starting pitching in any deal moving forward.
  4. They have Dejesus and Rivera if they really wanted to add a utility IF. Like most trades over the past couple years, this trade wouldn't necessarily be made to improve the roster THIS year.
  5. No, I haven't seen anything to change my original predictions in all categories.
  6. Maybe, but the pen in September won't resemble what they have now. Stearns will find guys out there to bring in. A couple will pan out, some won't. Just like Torres, Marinez, etc last year.
  7. Not sure Aguilar has done enough to make the roster.
  8. Not to mention guys like Cordell, Coulter, Nottingham, Roache, who knows who else may be tried out at 1B. Look at Gatewood as an example, he was never a 1B.
  9. Not necessarily related. Or you could make the case that this saves them $3MM of the $12MM they would owe Garza. Cushion the blow a little...
  10. Mixed feelings. I understand why they cut him, yet I just have this feeling he's one of those players that is going to become an even better hitter. We see that with some players, put up respectable numbers early in their MLB career, then put together a few big seasons in their late 20s, early 30s. It also tells us that trying him at 3B and OF didn't go very well, as most of us said that was really never a viable option. I just hate to see good players go for nothing, I guess that's what it comes down to.
  11. It's been around that long, because that's been true for that long. Even Wolf said after he retired his biggest regret was not giving Favre more weapons later in his career. Now with Rodgers it's the same thing, only not giving him a defense to win it all. It's a huge mistake to think it's an either/or. It's not a matter of spending NO money on FA or putting yourself in salary cap jail for years. There is a middle ground. I would love it if they drafted well on defense over the years and had no need for FA. But they didn't, and we are where we are. Unfortunately, this was not a year with a bunch of good CBs on the market.
  12. It is that simple. And since it will be impossible to determine how much revenue Koenig is worth vs the backup punter on the football team, why even try? No matter what they get paid it won't make any sense. And if these guys were paid large sums of money, it would create all sorts of bad consequences. Increase the stipend, sure, but then move on. If these basketball players want to get paid, they can go overseas and get paid instead of going to college here. Why don't they? Because they know darn well they're better off going to college here and being set with plenty of job offers when they graduate. As for the guys that actually make it the NBA, that's their payoff.
  13. Would not surprise me one bit. I attended Sundays game and watched him pitch. He got tattooed as usual. I sat down the right field line by the bullpen. After his start he came down that way sulking. The bullpen coach lit into him about throwing more off speed pitches. Instead of listening Garza gave it right back to the bullpen coach and the two went up the tunnel to the clubhouse. 5 minutes later the bullpen coach came back and Garza didnt. That said, just eating the 12mil would look really bad for the organization. Maybe, maybe not. It happens. The unknown (and you alluded to it a bit) is his attitude. It's one thing to let a vet try to work through it, especially when you're on the hook for 8 figures. But if he's being a jerk on top of it, you almost have no choice. Just can't have a guy like that in the clubhouse around all the young guys. Another scenario that wouldn't surprise me. For all we know Stearns had been talking to TX for a while and they have an ala carte menu. Guerra will cost x, Peralta y, Nelson z. They may have been scouting the others as well, we just never heard about it. Pretty easy to do in ST. Now TX just needs to decide who they want, what they're willing to give up. Who knows, just spit-balling what that cryptic tweet may mean.
  14. Not necessarily a trade, could be Garza is being cut. Not predicting that, just looking at all options, of which this is one.
  15. Yea, but Scully didn't want to announce playoff games, his reason was that he didn't want it to be about him- he wanted all the focus on the team. Seems like he is done broadcasting, period, but who knows.
  16. Here's yet another problem with paying student athletes "what they're worth." How do you determine what the backup punter for Western Michigan should earn vs the starting QB at Alabama? Or the bench warmer for Montana vs a star player from Duke? For the matter, WHO would determine this?
  17. I think it's debatable since the guy could run the baseline. If he was stuck in one spot then much easier decision. What isn't debatable is the fact that even without defending the baseline, it was like they were playing defense with two people instead of five on that last play. Yea, they didn't defend the inbounds pass OR the shooter. And that's stuff they practice, so no excuse really- especially for such a senior-laden team.
  18. Good news is, these organizations know each other well. Rangers aren't going to bother with some luke warm offer to Stearns, they'll know what he is expecting in return. So I'm sure they're weighing options, Peralta can't be the only pitcher in MLB they're considering. The other good news is that the Brewers have plenty of guys in their system with value, but likely to make the 40 man roster next year. So, they could get a higher return by adding the like of Reed, Wren, Roache, Coulter, Taylor, etc. Some of these guys have more value than others, of course. If I'm the Rangers I would be very interested in throwing in a guy like Roache or Coulter, for the Brewers to get a SP higher up the food chain. I just have this feeling one of those two are going to come on strong.
  19. Yea, no need for more talent equivalent to Erceg, Ponce, Harrison... Yea, no need for a 3 year controllable fairly young already proven MLB caliber starter who was once the top prospect in our system, throws in the upper 90s, and had a 2.92 ERA in the 2nd half of last season either. All I said was that trading Peralta for someone of that mold isn't worth it. I never said there was no need for another talent like Ponce or Harrison. Erceg doesn't really belong grouped in with the other two being a clear cut above both and a top 10 prospect in the organization on just about any reputable list. I was going off the best available list out there, ours ; ) But yes, Erceg will be higher when we complete the new list, much higher on my list. Peralta does have value, I think the devil is in the details. I don't know Rangers system, or any other team's system, well enough to list specific players. That's why I'm not very specific about it, but two really promising arms would be worth trading him now, depending on who they are. Same thing for Nelson, even moreso in his case.
  20. It's the Rangers system. Their #11 or #15 is not Cravy or Jungmann. But again, I wouldn't trade Peralta just for the sake of trading. I would for say, a Diplan and another lower minors highly regarded starting pitcher. Every trade from here on out should focus on getting starting pitching in return. Flame out rate is incredibly high, the system needs more.
  21. I know exactly what you're saying, and I feel the same way. At this stage of the rebuild I can just enjoy watching Brewers baseball. Without the feeling of its all for naught because the fran Chisel is stuck in neutral or reverse. Yet at the same time, no stress of expecting to win now. Selfishly, it's also getting to the time where I get be the expert again among friends and family. They will be asking me about all the guys coming up, because they know I follow all the draft and MiLB minutia. Credit goes to the big contributors to those forums. Yet another way I look at it, optimistic that by the end of this season, like last year, we will have a better idea who will and will not be part of the future. Uncovering both is really important part of this process.
  22. Yea, no need for more talent equivalent to Erceg, Ponce, Harrison...
  23. It's odd you are against such a move as you typically want improvements to the ML team. You may have the wrong cat. I'm not all that interested in improving this year's MLB team. I am entirely interested in improving the 2019-??? teams. In no way do I want them to flip Peralta or any trade chip with value for a relief pitcher that may or may not help them win one or two more games this year. I can be optimistic in the optimism thread, but I'll be realistic everywhere else ; ) Not to mention the fact bullpens are unpredictable, so for all we know the Brewers pen may end up being outstanding this year.
  24. That's pretty much what generated this thread. Rangers scout was the game, so word got out everywhere that they're interested in Peralta.
  25. Yea, I wouldn't want to trade Peralta (or anyone) for a relief pitcher. In fact, it would be very hard for me to take back anything other than starting pitching right now. Guzman was mentioned, that doesn't really even interest me since one of the many OFs we have from MLB down to AA can be a 1B. Rotation is where it's at, and I rather have a couple really good low minors starting pitchers than a relief pitcher, 1B, or anything else at the MLB/AAA level.
