  1. To be fair, McGehee going 1st to 3rd on a hit to LF is sorta cheating. As is using this character who looks like Yuni.
  2. KRod has done his job in 6 out of 8 appearances. That's ok, but it's not great. He's a marginal upgrade, not this huge win a lot of people are making it out to be. If Loe blew 25% of his 8th inning outings over the last couple weeks, BF.net nation would be all over him.
  3. I wish DM would have been able to swing a deal for a LHP in the pen. As RR reminds us almost every day, there's no sense in having one if he isn't any good. I think we would all agree with that, but having an effective lefty in the pen would be one more weapon they could really use down the stretch and in the playoffs. They had a plan coming into the season. Parra, Stetter, and Braddock. Reasonable plan, but it didn't work out. The little things will matter in the playoffs.
  4. Nice win. Now let's never see that lineup ever again. Rip that lineup card up, burn it, stomp on it, and bury it at sea.
  5. Would make sense since Green is playing a lot of 2B these days.
  6. And they get to keep the injury risk on the Brewers. If there are two players of equal value, unless you think the previous team is screwing something up in their training, or unless you are immediately going to place them on your MLB roster, you let them both continue to play for the previous team as long as you can. If one of them gets seriously injured in the next month+, you simply take the other player. This is my point. There may be at least one player with equal or higher value than Green on the list. Most of us were under the impression that there was nobody near this level on the list. So come September the Mets could be getting Green and another player similar to him in status. That's giving up a lot more for KRod than I envisioned.
  7. If Green is on the list and the Mets haven't jumped on him yet, I'm terrified who else is on the list. Because it only stands to reason there would have to be at least one more prospect on the list as good or possibly better than Green. This would also explain why the Mets jumped at DM's offer so quickly.
  8. I hear what you're saying, but the reason their record is so good in 1 run games is becasue usually when Loe imploded, it wasn't just one run, it was 3 or 4. With that said, sure...more runs is always a good way to win more games.
  9. The good news here (or bad news I guess) is that you can use any stat you want, and you'll reach the same conclusion. The variance will change depending on what stats you use, but the conclusion will be the same. Conclusion being, the Brewers have far too many ABs from players who aren't very good.
  10. Agree with the 1st part, not the 2nd. Just as DM seems willing to ride McGehee/Yuni/Counsell/Kotsay into 3rd place, Mark A will stand by DM to the bitter end.
  11. I'm excited too... but there was a little thing called the Super bowl earlier this year? '82 World Series. Super Bowl 31. Miracle on Ice. Just off the top of my head...
  12. I think part of it is just GM speak. Part of it is true (tough trade market for SS, 3B, LH bullpen arm.) But I fear the talk about Green/Gamel being nothing more than September call-ups isn't just GM speak. Actions speak louder than words, and as of tonight Casey is still the starting 3B. Beyond everything else we've already discussed, I think they're taking a big risk by standing by McGehee until September. For all those that fear Green can't handle the adjustment to MLB, and the pressure of the pennant race, then wouldn't both os those issues e magnified in Spetember, as opposed to bringing him up NOW? That would give him an extra month to adjust. It's not impossible for McGehee to turn it around, but it could go in the opposite direction. If he has a bad home stand he'll hear the boos. That's piling on an already bruised confidence, and he could really spial down. Now you throw Green in there in September with no MLB experience in the middle of a pennant race? RR doesn't have clean hands in this either. My guess is he's lobbying hard for McGehee, not to mention Counsell, Kotsay, Yuni, etc. Again, just guessing, but I think if RR told DM they've tried everything with McGehee and it's time to send him down, Melvin would respect his wishes.
  13. So swinging at balls out of the strike zone is more productive than taking them? You're also ignoring the most importatn stat of all, as cited by Bill Schroeder. Walks always come around to score.
  14. I would never root for McGehee to get hurt, but it's disappointing that that is what it would take for us to get better at 3rd. Sadly, I really believe Plan B would be Counsell/Wilson platoon.
  15. It's not surprising, but more than somewhat upsetting to me. It's just clear that they will move people in and out of the bullpen like a turn-style, but if you're a position player you have a job for life. I would encourage any light hitting vet looking for employment next year, call DM. Not only do you have the peace of mind you won't be cut, you'll get plenty of playing time. Heck, you'll even get a bobble head.
  16. I don't think any AAA player should ever be called up- ever. Some in the past have only hit .150.
  17. So, when he started the year with all the pressure of FA he hit the cover off the ball. Only now is the pressure getting to him? Impossible to prove your theory right or wrong, but it doesn't seem to add up. I think a more likely reason is that no hitter sees the ball great for 162 games. He had a slump, just like every player in MLB has had a slump this year.
  18. I agree TooLive, have been fearing that's the case. Here's my question. In these PTBNL deals, can a GM call back one of the names on the list? Is that "legal" and/or would that be considered to be a "dirty move" by the Mets? This list was thrown out there, but typically it's not some sort of formal documnet. It's more "Here's the type of guys we may throw your way." I would think that's something they could negotiate, unless DM just doesn't like Green as a prospect for some reason.
  19. That's how I feel, more or less. It doesnt matter if fans "deserved it" or not. You can't have a professional player in any sport getting into these situations with fans. It's just not productive (at best), and at worst it can lead to suspensions, distractions, etc. Put another way, there's no good that can come out of it, so why do it? I also rememeber a game about a month ago where Morgan was chatting it up with fans while he was in the on deck circle. Again, just not very smart. I love Morgan's energy, production, and yes even his Plushisms. What's not to love? He just has to draw the line there and not engage with fans during a game. Usually it's just playful, but he' starting to take it too far.
  20. We've been over this territory over an over again. Nobody is expecting Green to to tear up the NL. It's all about risk/reward. It would be very difficult for Green to put up a worse OPS than McGehee. Even if he did, the floor is so low that the difference would hardly be noticeable. On the flip side, there is a very realistic chance Green could OPS over .700 maybe even over .750. That would be an improvement. And if he doesn't, you haven't lost anything. Some people quickly forget Green was on a path to be a top prspect, and then suffered an injury. He's had a great season so far in Nashville, its more than just a "hot streak." But here's the bottom line, in my opinion. If you want to go "all in" you have to take a couple chances. Substituting Greem for McGehee could be basically a wash, or they could hit it big. At this point, it's worth taking the chance.
  21. Wow, great article. That says it all. DM/RR have used the "experience" pawn, and this article is check mate.
  22. If it were true I'd have no problem with it. Lots of fans are complete jerks and deserve it. Not to mention I think getting worked up about a gesture or word just because it is deemed "naughty" by some is a waste of time. Ok, there it is. Its fine for a player to flip off fans. If thats how some of you feel, I doubt I'll change your mind. You do realize though that the commissioner wouldn't be fine with it.
  23. I dont think he did, as I pointed out in my next sentence.
