  1. Yeah, because Gomez is definitely earning all that playing time with his awesome bat.
  2. So that is what it feels like to be on the other end of bad defense.
  3. Wasn't Casey's off-season knee surgery only intended to "clean things up" rather than fully solve whatever the problem was/is? I think you are right. Is it just me or does it seem like we get bad weather almost every time we go to Atlanta.
  4. Nah, I am just expecting to see a trade happened every time I log onto BF.net and Hart is the most likely to be traded. I saw the transaction arrows and the name Cain.
  5. So what you are saying is that he just isn't getting good results.
  6. Well the 03-05 years were definitely not playoff years and this year isn't either so I guess his thinking is let the rooks get some playing time. No. Service time has to be high on our list of considerations. We cannot compete head to head for free agents so bringing guys up just to play is not good.
  7. I am seeing it all over in the other grocery store. under $3 is a pretty good price, I normally see it for $4 a bottle around here.
  8. Before I read the thread, or title carefully I thought we traded Hart for Matt Cain.
  9. I am not saying it is the reason for his drop in power but his shoulder may still be a little weak sapping some of his power. The only thing that looks off from last year's AAA numbers are his HR. His PA and doubles look right in line with last year in AAA. Maybe more fly balls that died at the warning track.
  10. Bush leaves after this year so anything for Bush would be a plus. If we were competing for the playoffs it would make some sense to hold onto Bush but since we are not, we might as well get something for him.
  11. When Hardy, Hart, Weeks, Fielder, etc were in the minors, the Brewers publicly made a point of keeping them together "so they got used to playing and winning together." They all came up in the '03-'05 seasons. And they all came up at different times other than Hart and Fielder. Hardy one year. Weeks part way through the next and Fielder and Hart the start of the next. They came up staggered. Guys are brought up when they are ready and there is a need. Then we started signing FAs to fill in while this group played, and kind of gave up on bringing in rookies/prospects. Again, this was probably due to an effort to make the playoffs, but kind of kept us from easing in any rookies. McGehee was a rookie last year, but he was esentially the 25th man out of ST, sitting the bench behind Hall and Counsell. We didn't have anybody that was ready to come up other than Gamel. They didn't give up on bringing guys up. We had a gap in talent. It is questionable whether Escobar or Lucroy are really ready this year.
  12. that's a reason why Melvin's way of having all of the prospects hit the majors at the same time seems to have faults. Ideally, I'd like to see 1-2 prospects hitting the big league every year. That is what he has done for the most part though. One or two guys a year. Butler could be ready at any time. I am not sure how he is doing this year to be honest but if he had not been injured I think he would have been an option for the rotation at the start of the year at the very least as depth. Guys are ready when they are ready. I don't' think Melvin is grouping those guys all together on purpose.
  13. Depends on whether or not an extra option gets used. If no option is used, yes it isn't a big deal. Considering Jeffress progression so far he might need that extra year for development.
  14. I believe most of his errors are throwing errors.
  15. That could be. I admit I have been bit while in front of fans but it has always been on the side of my body not facing the fan or at the edge of the area where the fan is blowing.(bit on legs when fan was blowing at upper body)
  16. I bought some over the weekend but forgot to post about it. I also forgot that you should only drink 1 or 2 a night. That 7.2% ABV hits you fast.
  17. Well I have this, this and this to go off of. Like I said though, the Pirates just didn't spend their money on the MLB club. Just because money isn't being spent at the MLB level doesn't mean they are pocketing the money.
  18. Just do a little math and look at average ticket prices and attendance compared to payroll. That doesn't even take into account TV and cable revenue which we all know is almost impossible to pin down. Also doesn't include playoff revenue.
  19. Pretty much the same with movie stars. From my perspective it seems we want our entertainers and athletes to shut up and perform when we don't agree with them, and support their right to speak up when we do agree.I want them to shut up either way. I don't care if I agree with them or not.
  20. The Pirates are just spending their money on things other than their MLB team. It really doesn't pay to throw money at free agents when you are in their position, really crappy team with no chance at the playoffs. They spent more money on the first 10 rounds of the draft in 2009 than all but five teams and none of those teams were the Yankees. Let's not make Steinbrenner out to be a good guy because he spends more money. His money coming in from the team is far and away way more than any other team. Sure he spent the most but he still pocketed way more money than any other owner.
  21. I am shedding a lot of tears over this. Now both ESPN and ESPN 2 are showing nothing but Steinbrenner stuff nonstop. Slowest sports days of the year and now I get nothing but Yankee stuff.
  22. They didn't say not to post just that there really isn't much to discuss since it is a political topic.
  23. You are way overstating Gamel's actual time in AAA. He still has less than a full year of PA in AAA. He was only at AAA in 5 games in 2008, spent 2 months in the majors last year and didn't start playing in AAA until early June of this year. 503 total PA.
