  1. Duh forgot about Gamel. I tend to agree with endaround on Gamel though. IT appears his youth wasn't why he was riding the bench so long. He seems to be either stupid or lazy I'm not sure which. First off you supported Macha tooth and nail last year over the Gamel vs McGehee thing. I find it hard to believe you forgot about that. Second I really don't see the need to call Gamel stupid or lazy.
  2. A small hit was expected o the offensive side. On the defensive side everything and I mean everything we heard said Escobar was a fantastic defender.
  3. I reserve judgment until I see the corresponding move. Hopefully he will actually play and we don't see a repeat of Gamel '09.
  4. I agree that we have about a 2% chance at the playoffs, but that doesn't mean that we should sell. This seems like a really bad year to be a seller. Of course you don't trade players just to trade players. If you are getting crap in return you are better off doing nothing. Nobody is saying they should trade just to trade. Of course for some players, something would be better than nothing. Bush, Edmonds, Gerut(once off the DL), and Hoffman are guys who have about a 0% chance of returning and are not likely to be Type A or B players(even if they were we wouldn't want to offer). Counsell may be added to that group as well. He might or might not be back next year. There are some others with little service time left that we wouldn't have to get much back to call it a fair trade.
  5. there was no reason to burn an option this season for on the field reasons, this was a move made purely for off the field reasons and I'm sorry but I just won't get behind that reasoning. I didn't say it that way but I agree. He didn't earn a September call-up or spot on the 40-man roster and even if he did, there is no reason to add him until September. This has to be purely to keep him from getting permanently banned. He didn't need to be added until close to the end of November to avoid the Rule 5 Draft. Edit: I may be wrong on that option thing. I believe Jeffress is technically on an optional assignment right now since he is on the 40-man roster which would mean he has used one option. I just E-mailed Tom Haudricourt but he said Jeffress does not use an option since he was not sent down. I didn't really want to argue with TH since he replied quickly, and has other times I have sent him E-mail. I believe this to be the pertinent information. Per Cot's Now there is another interesting part. Jeffress may not have enough MiLB service time and may be eligible for a 4th option year. I am not sure if Jeffress will have 5 years of service by the end of 2012. (edit: enlarged font in Cot's quoted material --1992)
  6. I think buyers and sellers isn't really how we should define things. I think it is more discussing playing for this year or next year and beyond. We could add players that would be technically buying but making us better for next year. I would like to see the front office start making moves for next year. Of course I have felt that way for at least a month now. I never thought we were much better than a .500 team let alone a realistic playoff contender. If we had gotten off to a good start, I think we could have slid into the playoffs playing .500 or slightly better ball. The bad start sunk us and I hope they make moves for the future.
  7. Fire Doug Eddings or Fire Joe West.
  8. Is there much adjustment on the defensive side when moving from the minors to the majors?
  9. I honestly didn't want to start one or participate much since I thought Escobar would be about average this year. I also really didn't want to be to negative about him because I have been pretty negative about Escobar the past 2 offseasons.
  10. It's too bad we can't have Edmonds' bat in the lineup while Gomez plays just defense. I know. I wish Gomez could hit his way out of a wet paper bag so we wouldn't be subjected to Edmonds in CF. I am not saying Gomez would have been able to get to that ball but I think he would have at least been close.
  11. The spot was open, it's not like they released someone to make the addition. They did use an option though or will have to I believe. It is one less year they an keep him in the minors. Considering his control issues up until this year we might really regret it later.
  12. Just like 2008 when Sheets went, I don't want Gallardo to pitch in the all star game. I want our guy pitching for us. Of course now he might be hurt.
  13. Awesome. I turn on the game for a few minutes, Escobar boots 2 plays, old guy doesn't come anywhere near a ball hit to the gap and Gallardo gets hurt. Sorry guys, I jinxed it.
  14. I am so super duper happy we have the old guy in CF again. Is Gomez hurt or something?
  15. I would like to but I decided to put my money into a brewing kit instead. I loved the first one and am looking forward to Crackdown2 when I can buy it for $20 on E-bay.
  16. Escobar http://www.runemasterstudios.com/graemlins/images/doh2.gif
  17. I think a lot of people here undervalue Fielder big time. I'm not giving away a guy who has averaged 40 homers a year for the past 4 for one prospect, regardless of how high the pundits rate them. Going further, why would the Giants even want Fielder this year? Huff is having a pretty nice year for them. That is the problem though. Fielder has a really nice bat but there are plenty of replacements for less money and prospects out there. Not as good as Fielder obviously but close enough.
  18. I think our best bet is a couple AA pitchers with upside. I still don't think a power hitting 1B has very much trade value especially taking his poor defense into consideration. Cain, Gamel, and Lawrie just to name a few who could possibly replace Hart in RF Gamel probably being the only player who wouldn't be an upgrade over Hart in RF defensively. Hart isn't exactly good out there. I think all of those guys could conceivably be upgrades defensively. Gamel seemed to actually be a good fielder and looked athletic last year. His only problem on defense seemed to be throwing and that wouldn't be as big of a problem in the outfield. He also seemed to have a strong arm.
  19. Parra has a higher upside than Narveson. Unfortunately I was spot on with my guess. They look like they are going to keep trying for the playoffs this year. I hope we do trade Bush as I think he is using smoke and mirrors so far this year. The only really encouraging thing in his peripherals is his increased GB rate. Maybe he is using a 2 seamer more instead of a 4 seamer. I havent' watched him close enough to tell. His walk rate is double his career and K rate is down by 2 per 9.
  20. Who said anything about being upbeat. I just expect reporting like McCalvy and Haudricourt give us without personal opinions thrown in(not that those two don't throw in teir own opinions). There are plenty of places to get editorial stuff like Message boards and crappy talk radio. Mike Hunt only writes schlock and there is no point in reading his garbage.
  21. Classy move there to hold the guy at 3B so we don't run up the score.
  22. Now he is on the 4-0 man though which means he has this year plus 2 more to develop into something.
