  1. I posted this on Jsonline but wanted to see what kind of feedback you guys could offer. I was just wondering if Kremblas was called up to see if he could offer any insight/tidbits to Ned about little things these guys did well when he had them in Nashville or is this just standard procedure? It sure would be nice if he could make Ned think outside the box a little bit ,maybe catch someone by surprise and maybe pull out an extra victory down the stretch. You know Kremblas has lots of "I remember this one time" stories to put in Neds ear. I wonder if Ned is looking over his shoulder. Looking forward to the feedback (added tag; unambigufied thread title --1992casey)
  2. The reason I chose to include Miller instead of Rivera is that Miller is clearly near the end of the line and almost certainly will not be back next year. If thats the case, then you have Rivera to take over the back up duties for at least a few years if Melvin choses to keep him. I think if you trade Rivera, then you put The Crew in a bind for a back up next year, assuming Miller is not retained. If you trade Rivera this year and lose/let go Miller next year, then we've gone from a position of strength to a position of weakness within one calander year. All I'm saying is keep the guys who are going to be here long term and not worry about a guy who is essentially on a one year contract. Does this clarify my position and make sense?
  3. I was watching a little bit of the Phillies/Redsox yesterday. The announcers were saying that the Phillies are in desperate need of a solid back up catcher. That being said, again the phillies look like a prime trading partner. Send Miller to them for whatever we can get. Rivera proved to be a very servicable back up last year and not that Closser has cleared waivers, that gives us even more versatility at that position. Maybe include Mench and actually get a servicable player in return or at least a good minor league prospect. That'd clear about $6M in salary making it easier for Melvin to add some salary after the break. It would also clear two roster spots which would allow us to maybe keep Rottino and his versatility. I would think however that Gwynn almost has to be included in any deal. If they are set on keeping Hall in center, that give TGJ no hope of cracking our roster for any meaningful playing time. (please use subjects that sum up the post -TC)
  4. Gents, I posted something similar on Jsonline but was wondering how this forum would react. I'm not sure who is excited about the prospects of a Counsenino platoon at 3rd, but I'm not. If Turnbow gets his control back, I think they should package him and Jenkins to the Red Sox for Mike Lowell before he loses his control again. Apparently the Sox inquired about him over the winter so we know there is some interest. The move would have several positive effects on our beloved Crew. 1. It'd clear roughly 10M in salary. Lowell is making 9 I beleive so we're ahead there. 2. Jenkins and his new "tude" are gone. 3. We add a proven, solid 3B. 4. Lowell gives us a nice bridge so Braun won't be rushed. Although I'm not sure how many years Lowell has left on his contact. 5. We can platoon Gross and Mench. (do you suppose he was the "big giant head' that they referred to on the sitcom 3rd Rock from the sun?) The only negatives that I see are how many years does Lowell have left on his contract and does he have a no trade clause? If Turnbow regains his control, think what he'd be worth at the trade deadline!!!!! That could come back to haunt us if we dealt him now. I think this is a solid deal all the way around but not one that I've heard tossed around. Your thoughts?
