How much longer are we going to be subjected to his horrific offensive game? I'm not saying that they need to rush Pratt, Made or whoever but his spot in the order has now been a black hole for over a year. It simply can't be ignored any longer. Send him to the minors to work on hitting or send him to the spring training complex to get some individual coaching. Something. Anything. It's been a rough start for most of the team but his continued struggles have reached a critical juncture in my opinion. The season is at the 10% mark, how long until Murph just can't take it and pulls the plug?

I'm cautiously optimistic that Durbin will not have a sophomore slump like Ortiz had, but what do we do if he does hit the wall? They can't possibly weather 2 of Ortiz in the batting order. I think they'd be foolish not to try to be prepared. Certainly Bregman and Suarez are out of reach, but what about Moncada? The dude can hit, he just can't stay healthy. What about him as a fallback 3rd baseman. If Durbin flounders, put him at third, then have Turang who can slide to SS if necessary. The let Ortiz and Durbin and Monty duke it out for playing time. I don't see a viable alternative on the roster. Thoughts?

Yes, there absolutely needs to be a salary cap and floor. However, we better be ready to be without baseball for a good long time, cuz the players union will fight that to the death. If it were to happen, the Dodgers, Mets, Yankees etc, would all sign massive long term extensions to everyone that they could get their hands on and demand that they be "grandfathered" in. That would be a mess. There is certainly no easy solution. I'd be willing to forego a season, if it meant that well run organizations like the Brewers could play on a level playing field with those guys. 2/3 or the league essentially being farm teams for the top 10 teams is getting old.

Arbitration projections were just released. I think they let Bauers walk, but everyone else seems reasonable. Can the Brewers afford Vaughn? Do they want to afford that? Maybe offer a two year deal hoping to entice him to come off of that number? Contreras is really climbing fast as well. With the impending lockout/strike, do they consider trading him? Seems far fetched but owners are not going to want to be on the hook for big salaries if they shut it down. What are your thoughts.

You've gotta wonder what Black has to do to get some playing time. I'd make this a sink or swim situation for him. Toss him at 3rd and tell him to have at it. He can't possibly hurt that side of the infield from an offensive standpoint. Durbin and Ortiz are just horrific with the bat. I'd hate to see Pratt, Made or any of the others rushed up at this point. Black is either gonna break through or he isn't.

Yes, I know it's early in the season and that there is a lot of baseball left. That being said, how much longer can we put up with Hoskins playing everyday with Bauers as his back up? It's just a lose/lose right now. By the end of this month, I expect them to toss Bauers overboard, tell Hoskins to grab some bench and at least give Martinez a decent look. He'll have a "decent" sample size at AAA by then and maybe the kid deserves a shot and right now, he's mashing. Hoskins just looks lost and Bauers is what he is. That is to say a strike out machine who is easily replaceable.

Kevin Seitzer?

Shooting for a top 20 guy seems high for Freddy. A top 20 prospect for 2 years of Freddy? He's very valuable because of his relatively low salary but lets face it, he's just good, not great. But you've gotta start the negotiations somewhere. You never work up in a negotiation, only down.

I'm happy to see this. I like the kid but that swing of his was horrendous. Even though it "worked" for him in the minors, at least one coach along the way should have known that it wasn't going to stand up in the majors. Glad to see that he's working it out and more importantly, showing that he is coachable. I really want this young group of OFers to beat all expectations. This could be a pretty special group.

Why Trading Devin Williams Makes Sense
alwz4gbp replied to Jake McKibbin's topic in Brewer Fanatic Front Page News
I've been advocating for this for a few months. You can call it whatever you want, but this year is a rebuild/reboot/retool year. They need time to get the youngsters comfortable along with sorting out the various logjams. Sort that out, get the starting pitchers figured out, then they'll be back where we would like to see them. I fear that this year they will be hovering around the .500 mark all season and that alone is the best reason to trade Williams. It makes no sense to have a top of the line closer if he isn't needed and you have holes to fill.- 7 replies

I think that Arnold is pretty much done. I think that Black is going to be given every opportunity at 3rd, with Monestario as the fall back option. I just don' t see them spending any more money.

Tampa Bay Shopping First Baseman Harold Ramirez
alwz4gbp replied to Brock Beauchamp's topic in Transaction Rumors & Proposals
Ouch, Punched all kinds of holes in my argument. I'm wounded. I see your point. I just really wanna see a real hitter. The fascination with HRs is killing me. Play small ball. Way more entertaining and I don't care if "Chicks dig the long ball". -
Tampa Bay Shopping First Baseman Harold Ramirez
alwz4gbp replied to Brock Beauchamp's topic in Transaction Rumors & Proposals
Yes yes yes yes. While this regime places a priority on defense, even that has been a glaring weakness at 1st base since Cooper left. Neither he, nor Keith Hernandez is walking through the door prior to spring training. They can't keep hoping for a scrap heap pick up to save the day. The dude can hit, so let him hit. -
Orioles attempt at burnes
alwz4gbp replied to Scooterfletcher's topic in Transaction Rumors & Proposals
People need to come to the realization that this is a retool/reload year. Lets not fool ourselves. They've got no shot at resigning Burnes and probably only a slim chance of resigning Adames. Plus, is Adames really worth a monster contract? I was a fan when he first got here but now, with his decline in batting average and love of chasing HR, I think you sell him off too. I need my top of the order guys to get on base at a higher percentage than him. They're not going to compete with the big boys this year. They're just not. Enough of this "bite of the apple" stuff. This year will be a tiny bite, if its a bite at all. Trade off end of arbitration guys and spare parts for quality, then sort out where you're at, make a plan and move ahead. Letting Burnes and Adames play out the string and only getting a draft pick in return is not a plan. Its doing nothing. -
Free Agents if Burnes/Adames Traded
alwz4gbp replied to jay87shot's topic in Transaction Rumors & Proposals
If we do trade them, and I am firmly in the camp that says YES, then this is a reloading year, do not throw money at FA's. Paying JD Martinez or someone like that, makes zero sense to me. Roll with what you've got and maybe you win the division or wild card. That will get them a new tshirt and hat. That's it. The Dodgers and other big spenders have changed the rules for everyone. Teams have to start saving money and hoarding prospects until they are ready. The unleash your young studs and fill in with FA's. That will keep your window open for a few years, then lather, rinse and repeat. That's they only way that us, the pirates, twins etc have any kind of realistic chance. There may be a small market team taht pops up every once in a while (Royals) but those are going to be exceedingly rare when the Dodgers bit 700 mill for one guy. Mark A should ask for that contract and give the guy his franchise. Something has to be done with the big market clubs or baseball will collapse on itself. And if they do trade those two, toss Williams in there too cuz he's not going to make a difference. Get QUALITY, not quantity. If they walk away with only 3 players for our 3, I'm fine with that if they are quality. -
Will the Brewers Trade Willy Adames?
alwz4gbp replied to Ryan Pollak's topic in Brewer Fanatic Front Page News
You've gotta trade him. As evidenced by the Ohtani signing, we can't compete with the "Big Boys" as presently constructed under this system. That deal has changed the game. Time to do a quick reboot and change of philosophy. That philosophy being long term contracts, like Churio's, to unproven talent. Its just gotta be that way for the little guys. Atlanta seems to be way ahead of the curve in that aspect, however they do have the cash that allows some mistakes, Arnold does not have that luxury. Trade Burnes, Adames and Williams for HIGH end youngsters since quantity doesn't help us. They're already well on their way to having a very solid core with Sal, Mitchell, Churio etc. Throw in Black, Yelich and Contreras and you've got something to build on. There is absolutely no sense in keeping those 3, only to watch them walk at the end of the season because the Dodgers, Yankees, Red Sox etc want them, leaving us with a lone draft pick. Trade one of the 3 for a stud corner infielder (Hello Mayo) and pitching, pitching, pitching with the other 2. If we only come away with 3 players, so be it. But they will be quality players and ready to contribute immediately. Give it a year to come together and it'll be a lot of fun to watch. Just my thoughts . -
That is an AMAZING idea. I think Tampa is going to want top pitching in return vs more OFers. But man, that'd be great.
-
I would agree Rick. Burnes is done with the Crew. Get what you can and move on. While I'm not a huge minor league guy, from waht I've seen, Mayo is exactly what we need. There is no sense in trading Burnes, Adames, Williams etc for guys who will only be here for two years. or for a whole pile of lottery picks. Go for quality. You now have a huge window with Churio as the lead dog. Go young and let them all grow together. Frelick is the one that I want them to keep, trade the rest. Trade Burnes, Adames and Williams for quality. Quantity does us no good. The Crew is sitting in a very unique position. "Lowish" payroll, several youngsters to build around, a pretty decent farm and a GM who I think is going to outdo his old boss. Lets go!!

I will be as well StearnsFTW. Adames, Burnes and even D Williams would bring back a massive haul of premium talent. I just don't see how a small market team can pass that up. Get all loaded up with AAA studs and some ready for MLB talent, couple that with the youngins' they have now and you've got a super core for years to come. Small market teams can't pass up a quick reset like that.
-
It would all depend upon his salary. I'd be for it at the right price for sure. I'm sure they are looking at film to see if they think they can fix him. Lots of potential but Rowdy output is entirely possible. Could be a struggle year anyway, so it may not make sense to pay market value if Burnes, Willy and whoever else gets shipped out.
-
I have no problem whatsoever with taking a step back. Unless you're trying to talk yourself into it, the Crew has no "realistic" shot at a WS with the current team. Woody's loss it just too much to overcome and they didn't do anything when they did have him. Sign Woody to a friendly 2 yr, prove it deal, trade Burnes and Adames and prepare for 2025. Insist on major league ready talent in return. Tell Turang and Weimer to get to AZ to work on their respective hitting issues or they'll be in AAA again next year. I understand that Weimer was brought up out of necessity but how did he advance that far with THAT swing? I'm rooting for Turang if for no other reason than his defense but you simply can't hide a sub .600ops, nor should you have to at this level. If they can get Weimer straightened out, you trade one of the OFers at the deadline next year.

Jesse bleeping Winker???!!!!!! What are they seeing in that guy? At least Mitchell runs like a deer and would make sense as a pinch runner. Yikes..
