  1. This is the way the game is played. Prince doesn't have to like it he just has to live with it. Prince is obvioudly worth more than what he's getting but his day is coming. I don't think it makes it less likely he'll stay when he hits free agency because we all kow he is gone then anyway.
  2. I'm pretty sure I never want anyone tweisting my testicles.
  3. I don't remember which one (Kruk?) it was but one of them said the Cubbies will win it because they have an offense led by Soriano, Lee, and Ramirez and that one of those could win the NL MVP. Are these three really that much better than Fielder, Braun and Hart? I really dont think so. Not only that but when you get past those three you have what? Theriot, Pie, Fukudome, Derosa and Soto? That, IMO, is not as impressive as the Crew with Weeks, Hardy, Cameron etc... The national media may be ready to give this thing to the Cubs but I most cetainly am not.
  4. Yeah it doesn't make sense to me either. If they carry Brewer and Buck games why not just pick up the channel on a full time basis. But it's still better than Charter who will never go HD on FSN-WI.
  5. This is great. I just switched over from Charter to DirecTV so I will be able to watch in HD. I think baseball is much better in HD.
  6. I would really like to see Hall top 25 homers and say 85 RBI. Not only because I like him but because of how much it would help the team if he posted 2006 type numbers again. A return to form by Cappy and Sheets would be nice as well.
  7. The Brewers are a for profit corporation and as such they follow the law of supply and demand which says you can charge whatever the market will bear . If there are enough people who will buy a 9 game pack to get opening day than they should try to market it that way. If they can fill there lot on opening day at $20 a pop then why not? This is the price we pay for winning. If they start losing again I'm sure the market won't allow them to do these things any more.
  8. I still feel a lot of this teams problems can be summed up in one word: YOUTH. This team failed because they were inconsistent. Young teams are inconsistent. The reason they blew an eight game lead was because they couldn't maintain their April pace because they were young and inconsistent. I think because of their talent level many people expected these guys to play like a veteran club and that just didn't happen. But I think they accomplished a lot. To suggest they are no better than the 05 team is way off base. If someone offered to trade you the 05 team for this team would you make the deal? Of course not. Accomplishments: 1) Yo and CV proved they can be top of the rotation starters 2) Prince, Braun and Hart proved that they are absolute studs 3) Jenkins managed to play his way out of a $9M option for next year. This is money which can now be used elsewhere. 4) Johnny "1st pitch" Estrada proved he aint the answer behind the plate. 5) Set the team home run record There is still some work to do particularly in the bullpen which nedds to be rebuilt. We need to improve LF and C. Other than that it looks pretty solid. We start next year with a rotation of Sheets, Yo, CV, Bush and Suppan. The offense has some people who can seriously rake. It looks pretty good from where I'm sitting.
  9. As I have watched this debate unfold all summer I have tried to get myself worked up over it on either side of the issue. I just can't. I've said it before in this thread that the manager does not mean that much in terms of wins and losses. Baseball, unlike football, is a game where the front office(scouting , GM etc..) has a much larger impact on a teams win percentage than in football where the coach is very important. In short I guess I rweally don't care who manages this team as long as Melvin is the GM. I can trust his judgement on who is fit to manage the team. Somebody wrote earlier in this thread that the diffference between Yost and Larussa is 5 or 6 wins a year. How can you possibly statistically quantify something like that? You can't unless you have the two of them manage the same team over the same summer which is of course impossible. Is Larussa better than Yost? Of course he is but by how many games nobody really knows. But if Yost goes were not gonna get Larussa or Cox so it doesn't really matter. If we could land someone like that than I say bye bye Ned. But short of that a firing is not really necessary at this time. The issue which is much more important right now is the status of Jack Z. His loss would have a much larger impact on the long term future of the franchise than who is going to manage in 08. I think Melvin needs to put the Yost thing behind him and try to find a way to keep his scouting director. That should be his main priority right now.
  10. With their loss today they will fall 5 back of the Cubs with about 15 or so to play. If the Cubs go 8-8 the rest of the way to finish with 83 wins the Cards would have to go 14-4 the rest of the way to tie them. This is assuming the Cubs hold on to win tonight (they're up 5-2 in the 6th). I say you can probably stick a fork in them. The Cards are done. It's a two team race now.
  11. Just get there, baby! Just get there. Once you get there anything can happen. Look at the Cards last year. 83 wins and World Champs. Once you get there if you get hot for two or three weeks your world champions. The playoffs are not about who the best team is they're about who the hot team in October is.
  12. I am one of the people who says it's the players on the field that determine the outcome of the game. Is Ned a good in game manager? IMO no. But the Brewers record wouldn't be all that much better with somebody else. A manager does not make that big a difference in the long run. If Ned goes how do you know his replacement will do any better? I keep going back and forth on this thing but I have to say he stays at this point. If he goes than he does but I really don't think it's gonna make that much difference. This team will probably improve next year because the players will have more experience no matter who manages. Unfortunately if Ned goes the new guy will get all the credit. The people on the nay side of this argument have to agree that if the Brewers can win this thing Ned stays. So if your hoping Ned gets fired you almost have to be hoping that the Brewers blow this thing. And even if they do there's no guarantee that he goes.
  13. The suggestion that a team that wakes up on Aug 31 2.5 GB has no chance of winning is a difficult one for me to agree with. Anything can happen. If one of the Brewers starters catches fire or Fielder gets red hot and hits 15 homers down the stretch it could change things in a hurry. It's not likely these things will happen but stranger things have happened. We are just 2.5 games back. That's nothing. I certainly am not trembling with fear because the Cubs got Traeschel. Hardly a pennant clinching deal.
  14. How bout this Weeks Hart Braun Fielder Jenkins Hall Estrada Hardy I still feel we need a #5 hitter but if you move Hart ( the best option) there who hits #2? They don't really have a suitable option and IMO Jenks batting 5 is better than anyone but Hart batting 2.
  15. Thank you for the reply. I think it is much better than your original post. I hadn't read your comments in other threads, sorry. I hope you didn't take my reply personally but I just get tired of people just throwing stuff out there because they want to say something. your original post seemed like one of those. Obviously it wasn't. I apologize. In defense of Ned if your starters aren't eating innings your pen is gonna tire out and that is exactly what has happened. That is why, IMO, the rotation is more to blame for this teams collapse than Ned is. They completely fell apart. Not much you can do about that. I'm not sure if John McGraw could have come back from the dead and prevented what has happened given the way the starters have pitched. That is why he stayed with his starters too long in some games because either he does that or he risks further exhausting the pen. It was a choose your poison type of thing, IMO.
  16. What decisions should he have made with the pitching staff? When your entire staff can't get anybody out what options did he have that he didn't try? You want Cordero in the rotation? Seriously what was he supposed to do? You have to work with the talent you have and right now this team has precious little talent to work with on the pitching staff. I'm not saying Ned has done a great job I just wish posters would be more specific when throwing accusations around.. Give me some feasible alternatives to what Yost has done instead of just saying he has managed his staff poorly. Maybe you are right but based on what?
  17. This is a no brainer. It's clerly Uecker.
  18. If we haven't bottomed out yet I don't think I want to be around when we do. With the Reds score now 6-1 we have been outscored 34-8 on this homestand. This for a team which has hung its hat on their home record all year. I certainly hope it doesn't get any worse.
  19. I think if Rickie continues to hit in the top spot than JJ should hit 8th. I'm not sure hitting 8th is benefitting JJ but there really isn't anyone else, other than maybe Estrada and Miller, who should hit there. If Rickie doesn't continue to produce than they need to rethink things.
  20. Maybe my memory is a little fuzzy but I now remember reading around the time Molitor left that Bando had a grudge against Molitor going back to their days as teammates. I remember Bando helped coach Molly on playing third base when he moved there before the 82 season so maybe theret was some friction there that started it. I also remember Molitor saying he was leaving in part because he was tired of playing for a loser and the Brewers were not trying to win.
  21. Selig was the cheapest owner in baseball. When I think of how he used to talk about how he loved baseball in Milwaukee and then see what he did to the team it makes me want to vomit. This combined with Bando's incompetence are the reasons we never won anything during the 90s. Letting Molitor walk was their way of saying "I surrender". We haven't won since. Absolutely the worst move in franchise history. No question about it.
  22. Since June 1st our starters ERA: Suppan 6.13 (13 starts) Sheets 2.82 (8) Vargas 6.00 (10) Cappy 6.03 (9) Bush 4.35 (10) Gallardo 5.05 (7) As a staff the starters have a combined ERA of 5.18 and 3 of our 5 current starters (not counting Sheets) have ERAs over 6 for the last 2 1/2 months. Granted Yo was pitching well until today so his ERA is a little deceptive but this is ridiculous. That had better and change and soon. This was supposed to be one of the strong parts of this ream and now they have completely collapsed. The bullpen is starting to feel the effects of this and that is why we are seeing all those late comebacks. Even when the starters do piytch well the bullpen is so exhausted from overwork that they can't hold a lead. The starters need to pull it together and fast.
  23. We were there on Saturday. I told my wife that the fans were much more into the game than they are at Miller Park. They don't miss a thing. I have heard several times that they were great fans. I agree completely.
  24. What do you think he should be doing? What's his average with runners in scoring position. We could use some help there
  25. The reason I started this threads is because when I logged in tonight it was like visiting a morgue. I felt a thread like this was needed to give people hope. Had I said I was optimistic, given how this road trip went, I would have been seen as a fool(and rightfully so). Right now I'm not optimistic but next Sunday I may be. There is however a difference between being pessimistic and giving up hope, as so many were doing. That was the point I was trying to make with this thread.
