  1. i'll type up more later, but Taylor Green, Steve Chapman, and Kenny Holmberg (among many others) brought out the big sticks today... Taylor Green reminds me a bit of Ryan Crew, who played with the power last year...he's got a very quick bat which helps him generate a good bit of power...he's also got a strong arm...i will say that it is very windy here today, but his homers would have been gone anyway...
  2. if he wasnt day to day, they would have put him on the DL...the brewers have no reason to pretend he's not hurt, so i think a "conspiracy theory" is crazy
  3. go to minor league games...that's the best way to get autographs http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif I know this doesnt help most of you guys...i got richie sexson's autograph in 1995 http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  4. I'll be at the WV game again today, attempting to convince the team to let me play 3b...
  5. I got to talk with Zach for about 20 minutes yesterday...he's a great guy...wish i was getting to see him pitch, but maybe later in the season... i'll try and bring on a win today...the greensboro squad has some great pitching...
  6. Final: Greensboro (Marlins) 4, West Virginia 0 The Power gets shut out by a surging grass hoppers team... WV Box Score: www.minorleaguebaseball.com/milb..._gboafx_1 WV Game Log Both Darren Ford and Chuck Caulfield were picked off by the pitcher, Graham taylor, who has a great move to first.. www.minorleaguebaseball.com/milb..._gboafx_1
  7. Just got back from the WV power game...had a lot of fun, even if the team had a rough time tonight... I'm going to post a longer comments section tomorrow, but here's a few notes from tonight: ---WV has too many outfielders! It's hard to believe that Stephen Chapman is sitting just because the team has too much talent. One would think darren Ford or Mike Brantley would move up at some point, but it's a crowded situation ---Speaking of Brantley...He dropped to his knees after a ground out mid game and it took him about a minute to get up. He definitely looked hurt, and the team sent Chapman to warm up, but Brantley was able to stay in the game. Steve Chapman told me he tweeked his "hip flexor or Hamstring," but since he was able to stay in, i wouldn't worry much about it... ---As if you didnt already know: Brent Brewer, Darren Ford, and Jimmy Mojica are all ridiculously fast. ---Zach Braddock told me his fastball can hit 92, but 90 is more normal. The team plans (obviously) to keep him in the rotation, and has given him no suggestion that he might move to Brevard this year. He told me he was talking with Phillip Hughes agent (not Boras---I don't remember the guys name) so he's hoping to keep things going. ---Luis Ramirez tops out at about 87----Roque Mercedes also works in that range. If I had to guess, i'd say Roque weighs about 140 pounds...he's a stick. ---Mike Brantley told me the reason his power has surged this year is because he's "finally healthy." Don't forget that Mike has walked more than he's k'ed this year. ---Brent Brewer was slick with the glove at SS. he reminds me a lot of Billy Hall---he's got wheels and a cannon. He looks like a ballplayer, so i'd be surprised if he doesnt hit for quite a bit more power later on---i'd say that he's got 30 home run potential, but that 20 a year is probably a more realistic projection. That's all i got for now. A giant thank you to everyone that spoke with me tonight---especially Steve Chapman's mom, who entertained my wife and I for a couple innings!
  8. I think Darren can be a major league starter...he's everything that people think TGJ is, but with real power and unreal speed...
  9. West Virginia is on the road today...they are here in Greensbor... no, i have no idea whay they had two games against the hoppers in WV, two games here, then two more there... nonetheless, i will be there tonight...talking to some players hopefully..
  10. Final: Huntsville 5, Carolina (Marlins) 4 Good night for everyone except Derrick Turnbow Huntsville Site Game Summary: www.huntsvillestars.com/news/news.asp?newsId=1158 Stars' Rally for Win and Surge into Top Spot Lou Palmisano?s ground ball out pushed across the decisive run in the ninth inning, as the Stars rallied for a 5-4 comeback win over Carolina Monday night in the middle game of a five-game set at Five County Stadium in Zebulon, NC. The Stars extended their winning streak to a season-best five games and climbed to 19-17 on the season and into sole possession of first place in the North Division, while the Mudcats slipped to 14-24 overall and 7-11 at home. Huntsville has won the last nine games between the two teams dating back to a 3-2 victory in 10 innings on July 22. Trailing 4-2 entering the eighth inning, Hernan Iribarren, named as the Southern League Hitter of the Week earlier in the day, Guilder Rodriguez and Steve Sollmann were all walked by Craig Molldrem, who battled back to strike out Palmisano and retired Brendan Katin on a foul pop to first. Ulyses Davenport, who grew up in Raleigh, then lined the first pitch he saw from Molldrem into center field for a base hit to score Iribarren and Rodriguez to tie the game. It was his first hit this year that knocked in more than one run. Mark DiFelice, who had given up a run in the seventh, retired the side in order in the eighth and wound up picking up his second win of the season. Kurt Koehler took over in the ninth for the Mudcats and yielded a one-out single to Iribarren before Rodriguez hit a one-hopper to second baseman Kevin Randel, who fielded and threw wildly past second base into left field to allow Iribarren to advance to third and Rodriguez to second. Sollmann was given the intentional pass to load the bases and Palmisano followed with his chopping grounder to short that scored Iribarren with the game-winner. Palmisano has hit safely in five in a row, 12 out of 13 and has knocked in a run in six straight games on the road. Marino Salas retired the side in order to nail down his fifth save of the month and his eighth in eight opportunities on the season. Fittingly, Iribarren made a diving stop of a sharply hit ground ball and threw from his knees to retire Randel for the final out. Stars? starter Adam Pettyjohn allowed three runs, all with two outs, on two hits and a season-high four walks over six innings. Carolina?s Rick Vanden Hurk, who made four appearances in the big leagues with the Marlins earlier this season, was scratched from his scheduled start less than hour before the game and replaced by Jarrett Santos, who lasted four innings in his first start of the season. He gave up two runs on four hits and was followed by Blake McGinley, who went 2 2/3 scoreless frames. The series continues Tuesday night with Stars? left-hander Steve Hammond taking the hill against Mudcats? right-hander James Russ. Coverage of the game begins at 6:00 p.m. central time and can be heard locally on SportsRadio 730 WUMP and through the internet at www.huntsvillestars.com. 11. Final: Nashville 4, Salt Lake (Angels) 3 The Sounds get the win against former Brewer Farmhand Pedro Liriano.. Nashville Site Game Summary: www.nashvillesounds.com/news/news.asp?newsId=2316 Dillard Goes The Distance For 1st Triple-A Win Date Posted: 5/14/2007 SALT LAKE CITY ? Tim Dillard picked up his first career Triple-A victory by working a complete game in the Nashville Sounds? 4-3 victory over the Salt Lake Bees on Monday evening at Franklin Covey Field in the third game of a four-game series. With the win, Nashville (19-19) snapped a season-high six-game losing streak. Dillard (1-3) -- who retired the final seven batters in order -- allowed three runs on six hits over a season-high nine innings to earn his first Sounds win in his eighth start of the campaign, joining Zach Jackson as the second Nashville hurler to work nine frames this season. It was the right-hander?s first complete game since a nine-inning shutout win on June 20, 2006 for Double-A Huntsville. The Sounds jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning against Salt Lake starter Pedro Liriano on Joe Dillon?s RBI single to left that brought home Charles Thomas. Nashville doubled the advantage to 2-0 in the fifth. Callix Crabbe reached on a one-out single, moved to third following a Liriano wild pitch combined with a throwing error by Bees catcher Jeff Mathis, and scored on Charles Thomas? RBI fielder?s choice. Laynce Nix continued his strong first week with the Sounds in the seventh when his third home run in four games, a two-out solo shot to left off Salt Lake reliever Marcus Gwyn, increased the Nashville lead to 3-0. Nix has hit safely in each of his four games with the Sounds and is batting .471 (8-for-17) with three home runs and seven RBIs over that stretch. Dillon, who extended his season-best hitting streak to four games with a 4-for-5 evening, followed Nix?s blast with a single, moved to second on a Mathis passed ball, and scored the Sounds? fourth run on Brad Nelson?s subsequent RBI single to center. Dillon became the sixth Nashville player to record four hits in a game this season. The Bees broke up Dillard?s shutout in the bottom of the seventh, plating three runs to pull with one at 4-3. After loading the bases with one out, Nick Gorneault scored the Bees? first run on an Adam Pavkovich groundout before Gary Patchett delivered a two-out, two-run single to center to bring home Mathis and Casey Smith. Nashville third baseman Vinny Rottino singled in the sixth inning to extend the Sounds? longest hitting streak of the season to nine games. Liriano (1-5) was tagged with his Pacific Coast League-leading loss after allowing two runs (one earned) on six hits over six innings of work. The teams wrap up the series with an 11:35 a.m. CT finale on Tuesday morning. Right-hander Chris Oxspring (2-2, 1.98 ) will toe the rubber for Nashville to square off against Bees right-hander Jonathon Rouwenhorst (4-0, 4.08 ) . Nashville Box Score: www.minorleaguebaseball.com/milb..._slcaaa_1 Tim Dillard with the complete game. Dillard gets outs, but he doesn't really strike anyone out. If i had to guess, I'd say he's never going to strikeout 100 guys in a mjaor league season...is he Jeremy Sowers? or is he Dan Kolb...Hopefully he figures out a way to keep getting tem out, even without a K Ball. Laynce Nix putting on a clinic...which feels eerily similar to the way he performed in Nashville before his callup in 2006. Nashville Game Log www.minorleaguebaseball.com/milb..._slca
  12. Final: Brevard 5, Jupiter 2 (Marlins) Tons and tons and tons of men on base for Brevard during this game... Brevard Box Score: Lorenzo Cain has raised his average to a decent level, but since he's not walking or hitting for power, he's turned into the outfield version of Alcides Escobar. On the other hand, Cole Gillespie is walking plenty and hitting for ok power---he's a couple of 3 hit games a way from a .850 OPS. www.minorleaguebaseball.com/milb..._jupafa_1 Brevard Game Log: www.minorleaguebaseball.com/milb..._jupafa_1
  13. Thanks for the report on Braddock.. He's quickly becomming one of the most exciting prospects in the system... on the other hand, i'm bummed that he's not going to pitch in greensboro on tuesday or wednesday...
  14. i was just playing...i'm a little concerned that he;s been out for a week...just having a good ole time... and yes, smugness does make a good blanket http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  15. i heard a rumor that he had a leg amputated, labrum surgery, and died when he choked during a hot dog eating contest...
  16. bj ryan had tommy john, not jj putz
  17. oh, i agree patrick--- i don't think there's something mystical about Brevard, but it's possible that it helps the guys learn to chellange the batters more since there's little chance of somone hitting a homerun off of you in the FSL... A good confidence boost, no doubt...and unlike High Desert, it doesn't seem to negatively affect the players after they leave...
  18. Final: West Virginia 6, Hagerstown (Nats) 3 This game completed early due to rain as well...sure due wish that giant storm off the east coast would go away...i don't know if it had anything to do with this weather, but it's driving me crazy... 19. Final: Brevard 7, Fort Myers (Twins) 4 Brevard Box Score: Garrison puts up 0 through 5, but doesn't strike out a single batter. Vince perkins really struggling. Lorenzo Cain on base a couple of times---Cole Gillespie with a triple www.minorleaguebaseball.com/milb..._breafa_1 Brevard Game Log: www.minorleaguebaseball.com/milb..._breafa_1
  20. Chuck is killing the ball...but his bb/k rate is not good...he's a borderline prospect...without any kind of plate discipline. It's possible we arent going to see him actually challenged at the plate until he's further along, but a 23 year old dominating low A isn't unheard of... as for Gamel, he's a lot less polished than Braun, but the franchise isn't counting on him contributing in the majors for at least 3 years, so he's got plenty of time to figure it out...
  21. Final: Huntsville 8, Mobile (D-Backs) 3 This game was completed early because of rain Huntsville Box Score: www.minorleaguebaseball.com/milb..._hunaax_1 Lou Palmisano just unbelievable thus far in 2007. I have no idea where this is heading, but it's exciting...I don't think he can ever get his luster back completely, but this will help his chances of making it to the majors with this organization Huntsville Game Log: www.minorleaguebaseball.com/milb..._hunaax_1
  22. Link to Wichita's Box for those interested, Mr. Eure grabbed a new team quickly...
  23. i dunno Brett... Yo went in a good pitching prospect and left top three in baseball...i know that it has an effect on the ball, but i think its good for pitchers to go there..inman is unreal, but yo wasn't until he played in brevard...
