Final (Game Two): Montgomery (D-Rays) 11, Huntsville 4 Huntsville Site Game Review link, then text www.huntsvillestars.com/news/news.asp?newsId=1011 Biscuits Pound Out Big Win in Game Two Evan Longoria, Michael Coleman and Jason Pridie each hit home runs to back the solid pitching of Andrew Sonnanstine in Montgomery?s 11-4 win over Huntsville Wednesday night at Joe Davis Stadium that evened the Southern League Championship series at a game apiece. Games three and four, and five, if necessary, will be played at Riverwalk Stadium. Stars? starter Corey Thurman fanned seven of the first eight hitters he faced and blanked the Biscuits on one hit through four frames. Longoria belted his first pitch in the fifth for a home run to left-center field to get the scoring started. Ryan Christianson knocked in a run with a sacrifice fly, Elliot Johnson doubled in a run and Reid Brignac followed with a two-run double to make it 5-0 in favor of the visitors and chase Thurman from the game. Johnny Rayburn greeted Matt Yeatman with a double to left to score Brignac to make it 6-0 Montgomery. Sonnanstine shut the Stars out on one hit through four innings but gave up a leadoff home run to Jeff Eure that got the home side on the board. Patrick Breen committed a fielding error on a Steve Moss double that allowed Ozzie Chavez to score from third base and move Moss to third, where he scored from on a Callix Crabbe ground ball to cut the lead to 6-3. Ryan Braun then launched a home run to trim the margin to 6-4. Yeatman loaded the bases with one out in the sixth and retired Johnson on a shallow fly ball to keep the game 6-4. Southpaw Joe Thatcher was brought on to face the lefty-swinging Brignac, who struck out to end the inning. The Stars got one-out singles from Eure and Lou Palmisano in the bottom of the sixth but the threat died when Chavez grounded into an inning-ending double play. Gerrit Simpson then gave up a two-out long ball to Coleman in the seventh inning and a two-run shot in the eighth to Pridie, who also singled twice, walked and scored two runs. Sonnanstine allowed four runs on nine hits, while striking out six and walking two to win for a second time in two playoff starts and for the 17th time this season. Tony Peguero tossed two scoreless innings to close out the win. The series continues Thursday night at 7:05 pm with right-hander Yovani Gallardo taking the hill for Huntsville against Biscuits? right-hander Mitch Talbot. Coverage of the game begins at 6:50 p.m. central time and can be heard locally on ESPN Radio 1450 AM and through the internet at www.huntsvillestars.com. It always makes me think of Bob Wickman, only with 10 full fingers. I hope Dillard looks more like a baseball player than wickman does these days...the dude breaks a serious sweat walking in from the pen.. actually, i miss wicky...he was worth every bit of sexson...and he's still rolling along, even though he's gotta be 5 years older than richie.. -

Huntsville Site Game Review link, then text www.huntsvillestars.com/news/news.asp?newsId=1010 Stars Claim Sloppy Game One of Title Series Tim Dillard worked six solid innings and Huntsville took advantage of seven walks and five errors to come from behind to down Montgomery 6-4 Tuesday night in game one of the Southern League Championship series at Joe Davis Stadium. Elliot Johnson?s single in the third inning drove in Jason Pridie with the game?s first run and a solo home run by Reid Brignac, his first hit in 14 post-season at-bats, gave the Biscuits a 2-0 lead in the fifth. It was the first home run allowed at home by Dillard since a Joey Votto clout back on August 1. Dillard allowed two runs on six hits and three walks in his first playoff start. He struck out six and stranded six base runners. Biscuits? starter Jeff Niemann had held the Stars hitless and scoreless through five innings before Callix Crabbe and Ryan Braun singled to open the home sixth. Brad Nelson walked to load the bases, Ron Acuna struck out on three pitches and Brendan Katin walked to force in Crabbe with the home team?s first run. Jeff Eure then fanned on three pitches before Lou Palmisano walked to push Braun across with the tying run and knock Niemann out of the game. Steve Moss led off the seventh against Tony Peguero with an infield hit, moved to second base on a Crabbe sacrifice bunt, to third on a Braun fly ball and scored on a throwing error by second baseman Elliot Johnson to give the Stars a 3-2 lead. First baseman Johnny Raburn initially broke toward the ball, stopped and realized he couldn?t get to the bag in time, as Peguero came off the mound to cover but Johnson?s throw was behind him and hit off his glove. Travis Phelps tossed a scoreless seventh inning for Huntsville but gave up a leadoff single to Justin Ruggiano in the eighth that was followed by an Evan Longoria double. Michael Coleman singled into centerfield to drive in both runners to put the Biscuits back on top at 4-3. He stole second base, moved to third on a ground out but was thrown out at the plate trying to score on a Ryan Chrisitanson ground out. Jean Machi took over for Montgomery on the hill in the eighth and gave up a leadoff single to Jeff Eure and walked Palmisano and Chavez to load the bases. Moss hit a ground ball to Longoria at third base that he couldn?t field cleanly allowing Eure to score the tying run. Machi was taken out and replaced by Brian Henderson, who got Crabbe to hit a ground ball to shortstop Reid Brignac, who made an errant throw to the plate that allowed a sliding Palmisano to score the go-ahead run. Braun then chased home Chavez with a sacrifice fly to complete the scoring. Joe Valentine retired the side in order to close out the game and convert his 12th straight save opportunity. The Southern League Championship Series continues Wednesday night at 6:05 pm with right-hander Corey Thurman taking the hill for Huntsville against Biscuits? right-hander Andrew Sonnanstine. Coverage of the game begins at 5:50 p.m. central time and can be heard locally on ESPN Radio 1450 AM and through the internet at www.huntsvillestars.com. -

I don't know if anyone here listens to robert schnieder (apples in stereo) but i picked up his release from last year (recoring as Marbles) and it's pretty good...it's way less aggresive than the last Apple's album and not as rocking as the Ullyssees album from 2004, but it has some of the pop sensibilities from the early apples stuff...all in all a good album, though not sure if i'll be dying to listen to it all the time... i also picked up The rapture - echoes...and first impressions are that i don't like it...i like moments, but it falls into sounding like the faint, which i don't particularly enjoy... as soon as i get around to it, the new Thermals album will be entering regular play for me...that is, when i buy it...

Final: Huntsville 7, Chattanooga (Reds) 2 Huntsville Site Game Summary link, then text www.huntsvillestars.com/news/news.asp?newsId=1007 Stars Complete Sweep of Chattanooga Brendan Katin knocked in three runs and three relief pitchers worked four scoreless frames to preserve Huntsville?s 7-2 North Division playoff series clinching win over Chattanooga Saturday night at Joe Davis Stadium. The Stars swept three games from the Lookouts, outscoring them 21-5, and will face Montgomery in a best-of-five league championship series starting Tuesday night at home. Steve Moss led off the home first with a double, stayed put when Callix Crabbe was hit by a Tyler Pelland pitch and moved to third base on a Ryan Braun single. Katin then dumped a shallow fly ball into right field to plate Moss and Crabbe and move Braun to second base. Brad Nelson followed with a double off the wall to score Braun to make it 3-0 and send Katin to third base. Ron Acuna?s sacrifice fly chased home Katin to cap off the Stars third four-run rally in the last four innings. Javon Moran led off the Lookouts? third inning with a double, moved to third on a Drew Anderson single and both runners scored when Joey Votto doubled into left field to trim the home team?s lead to 4-2. Noochie Varner singled to move Votto to third before Jeff Bannon fanned for the first out of the inning. Paul Janish walked to load the bases but Stars? starter Manny Parra worked out of further trouble by striking out Chris Dickerson and retiring Ryan Hanigan on a ground ball out. Pelland, Moran and Anderson opened the fourth with singles bringing Votto, the Southern League MVP, to the plate with a chance to change the game. He fouled out to third base, Varner struck out swinging on three pitches and Bannon went down swinging on three pitches to end the threat. The Stars then tacked on three runs in the bottom half of the inning on a two-run bases loaded single by Crabbe and a looping rbi single by Katin into shallow left-center field. Parra was lifted after five innings during which he allowed two runs on 10 hits. He struck out eight and walked a pair and also walked and scored during the fourth inning rally. The Stars starters allowed three runs on 16 hits, fanned 23 and walked only a pair in a combined 18 innings of work in the series. Matt Yeatman worked two scoreless innings, Chris Mabeus tossed scoreless relief in the eighth and Joe Valentine closed a shutout ninth inning by striking out Bannon to end the game. The Southern League Championship Series opens on Tuesday night at 6:05 pm with right-hander Tim Dillard taking the hill for Huntsville against a Biscuits? starter to be determined. Coverage of the game begins at 5:50 p.m. central time and can be heard locally on ESPN Radio 1450 AM and through the internet at www.huntsvillestars.com.

Huntsville Site Game Review: link, then text www.huntsvillestars.com/news/news.asp?newsId=1006 Gallardo Dominant In Stars' Win in Game Two Yovani Gallardo worked six strong innings and Brad Nelson?s monstrous home run punctuated a twelve-run comeback, as Huntsville pounded out a 12-3 win to claim game two of the North Division playoffs Friday night at BellSouth Park. The Stars return home to Joe Davis Stadium for game three on Saturday night having won the first two games on the road and outscoring the Lookouts 14-3 in so doing. Lookouts? starter Josh Hall blanked the Stars on one hit, a Ryan Braun double in the first, through six innings before running into trouble in the seventh. Nelson started the winning rally with a leadoff walk, moved to second base on a single by Ron Acuna and scored the tying run on a Brendan Katin double down the left field line. Lou Palmisano walked to load the bases and chase Hall from the game. Carlos Alvarado came on and walked Ozzie Chavez to force in Acuna with the go-ahead run and hit pinch-hitter Jeff Eure to force in Katin to make it 3-1. Alvarado was taken out and replaced by Justin Mallett, who got Steve Moss to hit a ground ball to third basman Aaron Herr, who stepped on the bag to force Chavez for the first out and threw home to try to double up Palmisano, who slid in safely with the fourth run of the inning after not being tagged by catcher Ryan Hanigan. Palmisano doubled home Travis Ezi with two outs in the eighth inning to push the visitors lead to 5-1. The Stars then tacked on seven runs in the ninth, highlighted by Nelson?s three-run clout off the display board that shows the radar gun readings above the two levels of signage in left-center field. Herr dropped a pop up with two outs that allowed the final two runs to score, as the Stars collected eight hits, drew nine walks and had two batters hit in their most lopsided playoff win since a 13-2 victory over the Barons in Birmingham on September 7, 2001. Gallardo gave up back-to-back two-out doubles to Herr and Dickerson that pushed across the game?s first run in the home fourth. The right-hander then retired the last seven batters he faced to close out his performance, which resulted in a fifth straight winning decision. Gallardo struck out 10, including two in four innings and one in the other two frames, and did not walk a batter. Travis Phelps worked two scoreless innings and Gerrit Simpson allowed a two-out, two-run double to Dickerson before retiring Noochie Varner to end the game. The series continues Saturday with Stars southpaw Manny Parra making the start against Lookouts? left-hander Tyler Pelland. Coverage begins at 6:50 pm central time and can be heard locally on ESPN Radio 1450 AM and via the internet at www.huntsvillestars.com. -
Cole Gillespie - future Brewer leadoff hitter?
pogokat replied to molitor fan's topic in Brewers Minor League Talk
Prince was 18, and braun and weeks only played there at the end of their draft years...which leads me to: I don't think those guys are blocking him as mcuh as others do...cain and ford are going to High A for sure, and brantley might...if brantley doesnt then gillespie will start in brevard...if the brewers think brantley needs to be starting in brevard, then cole could go to huntsville... The thing with college guys is that they need to move relatively fast to stay with the high school guys at the same level...cole is already a couple of years older than brantley, so if you make him play a full year at each level, then he hits the majors at 26...the brewers tend to promote college guys when they have success...and ideally, a college draft pick is gonna be in huntsville by the end of his first full season, which would be 2007 for Cole---like braun or Katin this year---so it wouldn't be unheard of for him to just start in Huntsville...especially since he dominated college and rookie ball... I think cole most likely starts in High A, and i would be very surprised to see him start in WV...that's just not much of a challenge for a well developed college guy... how'd i do? -

Final: Huntsville 2, Chattanooga (Reds) 0 Huntsville Site Game Review link, then text www.huntsvillestars.com/news/news.asp?newsId=1004 Stars Shutout and Shut Down Lookouts in Game One Corey Thurman and two relievers combined on a two-hit shutout, as Huntsville blanked Chattanooga 2-0 Thursday night to take game one of the North Division playoffs at BellSouth Park. Brad Nelson led off the fourth inning with a double and stayed put after Ron Acuna grounded out and Brendan Katin struck out. Lou Palmisano then delivered a single into center field to plate Nelson with the game?s first run and make it seven of his last 11 starts with a run batted in. Lookouts? starter Homer Bailey was taken out after six innings during which he allowed one run on five hits and two walks. The highly-touted right-hander struck out three and suffered his first loss of the season at home in eight starts. Callix Crabbe led off the eighth inning against Carlos Guevara, who took over for Bailey, and was hit by a pitch for an eighth time this year. He stole second base and stayed put when Ryan Braun reached on an infield single. The runners moved up on a Guevara wild pitch and Crabbe scored on another wild pitch that was ball four to Brad Nelson, who drew his second walk of the game. Ron Acuna flied out to center field to score Braun to make it 3-0 but Chattanooga successfully appealed that he had left third base too early to negate another insurance run. Thurman retired the first 10 batters he faced before Drew Anderson doubled in the fourth. He moved to third base on a Joey Votto ground out but was stranded when Aaron Herr fanned to end the inning. The veteran right-hander retired the side in order in the fifth inning, stranded pinch-hitter Paul Janish at second base in the sixth and set the home side down in order in the seventh for a fifth time in the game. Thurman struck out five, did not walk a batter and beat the Lookouts for a second straight start. Joe Thatcher retired all three hitters he faced in the eighth inning and Joe Valentine set down the Lookouts in order in the ninth, striking out two, including Anderson on a called third strike to end the game. He has converted each of his last 10 save chances. The series continues Friday night in Chattanooga, with Stars right-hander Yovani Gallardo taking the hill against Lookouts? right-hander Josh Hall. Final: Round Rock (Houston) 4, Nashville 3 Nashville Site Game Summary link, then text www.nashvillesounds.com/news/news.asp?newsId=2150 Express Rally Late, Even Series With 4-3 Win NASHVILLE, Tenn. ? The Round Rock Express evened the American Conference Finals at one game apiece with a last at-bat, 4-3 victory over the Nashville Sounds in game two of the best-of-five series in front of 4,301 fans on Thursday evening at Greer Stadium. The visitors trailed by a run entering the eighth inning but plated single runs in the final two frames of action against the Nashville bullpen, both with two outs, to come away with a win. With the game tied at 3-3 in the top of the ninth, Cody Random, who had homered earlier in the evening, opened the inning with a walk against Alec Zumwalt. Mike Rodriguez later drove the infielder home with a two-out double to right that came on the first pitch he saw from Zumwalt, who had blown a save the previous inning for Nashville. The loss was the 32nd one-run defeat suffered by Nashville this season, a total that leads Triple-A baseball. The Sounds struck first, plating a run off Express starter Jared Gothreaux in the bottom of the first inning. Tony Gwynn led off with a double to left-center and scored two batters later on Drew Anderson?s opposite-field RBI single to left. Round Rock responded quickly, tying the contest in the top of the second when former Sound J.R. House doubled and scored two batters later on a Royce Huffman two-bagger off Nashville starter Zach Jackson. The left-hander escaped further damage in the frame when he induced a one-out, bases-loaded double-play grounder from Gothreaux to end the inning. Ransom gave the visitors a 2-1 lead in the fourth when he belted a two-out solo homer to right-center off Jackson, Round Rock?s first longball of the postseason. Nashville reclaimed the lead in the sixth with a pair of two-out runs. Pinch-hitter Kennard Bibbs opened the frame with a four-pitch walk, was sacrificed to second by Gwynn, and later scored on Anderson?s second run-scoring knock of the evening, a two-out single to center that chased Gothreaux. Graham Koonce greeted reliever Mike Gallo by turning the left-hander?s first pitch into an RBI double to left-center that gave the Sounds a 3-2 lead. Round Rock knotted the contest at 3-3 in the eighth with an unearned run stemming from a fielding error by Sounds second baseman Zach Sorensen. House connected for a two-out RBI double off Zumwalt, who suffered his fifth blown save of the year. The Sounds tried to plate the go-ahead run in the bottom of the inning. Gwynn doubled and was sacrificed to third before being thrown out by Express hurler Chris Sampson in a bang-bang play at the plate while trying to score on an Anderson fielder?s choice grounder. Sampson (1-0) benefited from the late Round Rock heroics and picked up the victory after working two scoreless frames of relief, allowing one hit. Zumwalt (0-1) took the loss after giving up the game-winning run on two hits and two walks in his 1 1/3 innings of action. Neither starting pitcher factored in the decision on the evening. Jackson ? who was robbed of a victory due to the blown save ? allowed two runs on six hits over six innings of work, his fourth quality starts in his last five outings. The southpaw walked three batters and struck out five. Gothreaux, who left in line for the loss, gave up three runs on five hits over 5 2/3 frames of action. On Friday, the American Conference Finals shift to The Dell Diamond in Round Rock, Texas, where the Sounds and Express will play the remainder of the best-of-five series. Nashville lost five of the eight games played there during the 2006 regular season and is just 6-10 at Dell Diamond over the past two years. Left-hander Dana Eveland (6-5, 2.74) will take the hill for the Sounds in Friday?s 7:05 p.m. CT road contest and face Round Rock right-hander Matt Albers (2-1, 3.96). yea that was me on Brantley...i think we'll see some of the older guys who no longer have a position repeat...like Yoho, maybe even Holmberg...ryan marion, rafael lluberes...those guys could repeat.. angel's gotta move up, unless the brewers really think a brad wilcutt nestor corredor platoon is what brevard needs edit: of course, I'm starting to think Cole Gillespie is the one who jumps to AA
