Final: Albuquerque (Marlins) 7, Nashville 2 Nashville Site Game Summary Link, including pic of Chris Barnwell, then text www.nashvillesounds.com/n...ewsId=2132 Sounds Fall To Isotopes, 7-2 ALBUQUERQUE â?? The first-place Nashville Sounds dropped a 7-2 decision to Albuquerque on Tuesday night at Isotopes Park in the second game of a four-game set. Despite the loss, Nashville (74-64) maintained its three-game lead over Iowa in the American Conference Northern Division; the Cubs lost at Oklahoma, 5-4. The Soundsâ?? magic number to clinch a playoff berth was reduced to three with six games remaining in the season. Isotopes second baseman Edgar Gonzalez gave the home team a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning with a two-run homer to left off Sounds starter Justin Lehr, his third roundtripper of the campaign. Albuquerque extended the lead to 3-0 in the second when Isotopes starting pitcher Chris George helped his own cause with an RBI triple off Lehr. The home team upped the advantage to 5-0 in the fifth on a pair of RBI singles by Chris Aguila and Nick Trzesniak against Lehr. Shortstop Chris Barnwell stole home with two outs in the top of the sixth inning to account for Nashvilleâ??s first run of the evening. The theft was his second of the game and 15th on the year. Nashville made it a 5-2 game against reliever Chris Resop in the eighth when Tony Gwynn recorded a one-out double, moved to third on a Barnwell single, and scored on a fielderâ??s choice groundout off the bat of Zach Sorensen, who paced the Sounds with a 2-for-4 evening. Gwynn went 1-for-4 to extend his hitting streak to nine games, the longest active on the club. Steve Bray and Dennis Sarfate each worked a perfect inning in relief of Lehr before the Isotopes wrapped up the eveningâ??s scoring against Allan Simpson in the bottom of the eighth. Robert Andino delivered a two-out, two-run single on a 3-2 offering from the right-hander to extend the home clubâ??s lead to 7-2. Albuquerque starter Chris George (4-6) picked up the victory to improve to 9-3 lifetime against the Sounds. The left-hander allowed one run on five hits while striking out six batters over 6 1/3 innings. Lehr (4-7) took the loss after giving up five runs on nine hits over five frames of work. The teams continue the series on Wednesday night with another 7:35 p.m. CT matchup. Right-hander Ben Hendrickson (9-7, 2.85) looks to end a four-start winless stretch when he takes the mound for Nashville to square off against Albuquerque southpaw Adam Bostick (1-1, 3.00). Huntsville Site Game Summary link, then text www.huntsvillestars.com/news/news.asp?newsId=987 Palmisano Powers Stars to Comeback Victory Lou Palmisano belted a two-out, solo home run in the eighth inning to complete a three-run rally that carried Huntsville to a 6-5 comeback win over Mississippi in the fourth game of the final five-game regular season set at Joe Davis Stadium. The Stars have won the first four games by a total of five runs to extend their win streak to a season-high seven games and improve to 38-25 in the second half. Huntsville holds on to a three and a half game lead over Tennessee and Chattanooga, both victorious earlier in the evening. The Stars also established a franchise record with their eleventh consecutive win at home, dating back to August 1. Ralph Roberts opened the eighth inning on the hill for Mississippi and was greeted by a Ryan Braun double into the alley in right-center field. Brendan Katin followed by belting a 1-1 offering off the Stars? tri-vision star to the left of the scoreboard for a home run to tie the game at five. Katin has hit four long balls, including two game-winners, since joining the Stars on August 18. Roberts retired the next two hitters before Palmisano smacked a 1-1 offering over the wall in left field for his fourth of the season, second game-winner and first since May 29 vs. West Tenn. Roberts was making his first appearance at the double-A level this season and tenth of his career. Mike Rozema singled and Onil Joseph walked with one out and advanced on a passed ball charged to Palmisano before Joe Thatcher struck out Matt Young for the second out in the top half of the eighth. Thatcher was replaced by Matt Yeatman, who gave up a two-run single to Yunel Escobar that put the Braves on top at 5-3. Yeatman, who fanned Josh Burrus to end the inning, picked up his second win of the series after going winless since May 17. Joe Valentine took over on the hill for the Stars in the ninth inning and fanned Ivan Terrazas and retired Ray Serrano on a fly ball before Josh Arteaga doubled. Eddie Perez was called on to pinch-hit and was fanned by Valentine for the final out in the game for a second time in three days. Valentine earned his 10th save and has allowed only one run in his last 13 innings. Rozema?s two-run double off of starter Tim Dillard gave the Braves a 3-2 lead in the sixth before Brad Nelson homered off of Mississippi starter Matt Harrison in the bottom of the inning to tie the game. Nelson has hit three long balls in the series to push his season total to six, all of which have been hit at home. The series wraps up Tuesday night with left-hander Manny Parra taking the hill for Huntsville against Braves? southpaw Dan Smith. Coverage of the game begins at 6:50 p.m. central time and can be heard locally on ESPN Radio 1450 AM and through the internet at www.huntsvillestars.com.
  5. Nashville Site Game Review Link, including pic of Dana Eveland, then text www.nashvillesounds.com/news/news.asp?newsId=2131 Sounds Pound Isotopes In Series Opener ALBUQUERQUE ? The Nashville Sounds broke out of their offensive funk in a big way on Monday evening at Isotopes Park, hammering out 16 hits ? including nine during a nine-run fifth inning ? in a 12-4 drubbing of Albuquerque in the opener of a four-game series. With the win, Nashville (74-63) increased its lead over Iowa back to three games in the American Conference Northern Division; the Cubs lost at Oklahoma, 1-0. The Sounds? magic number to clinch a playoff berth was reduced to four with seven games remaining in the season. Sounds starter Dana Eveland (6-4) continued his run of recent strong starts, earning a victory for the third consecutive outing by holding the Isotopes to two runs on four hits over seven innings of work. The quality start was the southpaw?s sixth in his last eight games. He kept the Isotopes in check early on, allowing only one hit and facing one batter over the minimum through his first four frames. Every Sounds starter, including Eveland, recorded at least one hit and scored a run in the contest. Seven of the nine drove in a run on the evening. The 12 runs scored matches the team's best effort of the year, previously accomplished on April 30 at New Orleans. Third baseman Vinny Rottino continued his red-hot hitting by pacing Nashville with a 3-for-5 evening at the plate that included a pair of doubles and two runs scored. Rottino is batting .411 (30-for-73) in the month of August. The Sounds jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the second inning against Albuquerque starter Jason Vargas, using back-to-back doubles by Rottino and Chad Moeller. Drew Anderson extended the Nashville lead to 2-0 in the third when he plated Chris Barnwell with a one-out RBI double. The outfielder has opened his Sounds career by hitting safely in eight of his first 10 games with the club. Nashville put the game out of reach in the fifth by sending 14 batters to the plate during a season-best nine-run inning that increased the lead to a whopping 11-0. Vargas took the brunt of the damage, surrendering seven runs in the frame including three on Graham Koonce?s 17th home run of the year. Rottino added an RBI two-bagger later in the frame before Eveland helped his own cause with a two-run double to left that greeted Albuquerque reliever Ross Wolf. Zach Sorensen and Barnwell contributed RBI singles before Koonce wrapped up the scoring with a run-scoring groundout, giving the first baseman four RBIs in the inning. Sorensen accomplished a feat that had not been done by a Sound since the 2002 campaign in the top of the fifth when he recorded a pair of singles in the frame. Chris Pritchett had been the last to post two knocks in a single inning, achieving the feat on July 21, 2002 against Calgary. Albuquerque finally got on the board against Eveland in the bottom of the sixth when Edgar Gonzalez scored on a Robert Andino sacrifice fly. The home team picked up its second run in the seventh when Gonzales drew a two-out, bases-loaded walk from Eveland, who faced a bags-full one-out jam and escaped with only that one run scoring as he retired Eric Reed on an inning-ending groundout. Nashville added its final run in the top of the ninth against Isotopes reliever Jim Brower. Tony Gwynn delivered a two-out, pinch-hit single to extend his hitting streak to eight games, the longest active on the club. Sorensen followed with his third hit of the ballgame, an RBI double to right. Chris Demaria worked a scoreless eighth behind Eveland before Alec Zumwalt took over in the ninth and allowed a pair of two-out Albuquerque runs to bring the score to its final 12-4. Vargas (2-6) took the loss for the Isotopes after surrendering nine runs on 10 hits over his 4 1/3 frames of action. The teams continue the series on Tuesday with another 7:35 p.m. CT matchup. Right-hander Justin Lehr (4-6, 3.69) takes the hill for Nashville to face Albuquerque left-hander Chris George (3-6, 5.[/i]

  9. Also, in your proposed high-A lineup, why do you have Cain in LF & Gillespie in RF? From what I understand, Cain is being groomed for right and Gillespie's arm limits him to left & center. A typo I'm assuming. yes it was...it was pretty late...and cain's got a cannon, so he should definitely be in right.. I understand what you are saying about brantley... but i think Errecart is a better prospect...and if i had to choose one to advance next year, i would choose the older college guy over the younger brantley...who i think will be harmed less by being held back.. do you think brantley should stay in front of errecart? or Gillespie? It seems to me that Gillespie and Errecart could be in AA by the end of the year, and there's little reason to think that Brantley could do the same...just my take though.. again, this is fun...
  10. However, on that note, who out of Brantley, Ford and Cain repeats WV for Errecart and/or Gillespie to be bumped to high-A? Or, does one of those guys gets the jump to AA? Brantley should repeat...he's only 18---and he needs to get a chance to play CF if he's going to have any value...cain and ford are certainly ready to be promoted... A+ Cain-Ford-Gillespie A Chapman-Brantley-Errecart I think that works absolutely...with Errecart going to High A when Gillespie moves up at the break...or you could just have 4 "regular outfielders in High A and let them get work on non outfield days at 1b or DH... I suspect that a High A team will look like this next year: LF: Cain CF: Ford RF: Gillespie 1B: Yost 2b: Bell SS: Crew 3b: Gamel C: Salome Bench: Holmberg Brad Wilcutt Tony Festa Add in a guy like Errecart, and the only people that stand to lose playing time are Kenny Holmberg and Ned Yost... It wouldn't hurt to get one of these guys some time at 1b anyway considering the logjam at AA and AAA will reach epic proportions in the outfield sometime in 2008.. just my take...this is fun though.. edit: Wonder if Alcides could repeat...as much as the Brewers want to keep those guys together, it sure wouldn't hurt anything to push an older player like crew while letting a younger, less successful player (escobar) get some more reps at High a
  11. My point is that you can't bring up the other two in MVP conversation without bringing up Chapman, who is the youngest of the 3 despite playing his third year in rookie ball. If they get bumped up together a la Brantley, Ford & Cain, you should have quite the OF trio to watch next year in WV (assuming the Brewers hold onto that affilaite). I intentionally did not mention Chapman because I think he's been getting too much attention...especially when Cole is carrying a 1.000 OPS and Errecart has 11 Hr's.. Those guys look very good..as much as i think cole and errecar deserve to be in High A next year, i hope they are in WV just so i can see them play

  13. Huntsville Site Game Review Gallardo Pitches Stars to Win Yovani Gallardo worked eight dominant innings and Travis Phelps squelched a threat in the ninth inning to preserve Huntsville?s 4-2 win over Mississippi in a game delayed by 71 minutes at the start because of rain at Joe Davis Stadium. The Stars have won the first three games of the series to improve to 37-25 in the second half and extended their lead to three and a half games in the North Division over Tennessee and Chattanooga, both of whom lost earlier in the day. The Stars matched a franchise record, established last season, with their 10th consecutive win on home soil during the same season in which they established a franchise record with 13 straight losses at home. Ryan Braun blasted a solo home run with two outs in the first inning to get the scoring started and take over the team lead with his 13th long ball in only 52 starts. It was also the league-leading 24th home run allowed by Braves starter Chris Waters, who has allowed a long ball in 19 of the 26 games he has started. He was charged with four runs on six hits over five innings and suffered his league-high 14th loss. Ozzie Chavez drove in Brad Nelson with a sacrifice fly in the fourth to push the Stars lead to 2-0. With Lou Palmisano at first and two outs, Gallardo kept the inning going with a base hit, his second of the night. Steve Moss followed with a double past a diving Matt Young in center field to chase home both runners to extend the home team?s edge to 4-0. Moss has knocked in a pair of runs in three of his last four starts and helped the Stars extend their win streak to six games for a third time this season. Ray Serrano singled to lead off in the third inning and was the only Mississippi base runner until Young singled with one out in the seventh. Gallardo then got Yunel Escobar to ground into an inning ending double play and stranded Serrano in the eighth after the Braves backstop picked up his second hit of the night. Gallardo struck out eight, beat the Braves for a second time this season and earned his fourth win at home. Luis Hernandez drew a four pitch walk leading off in the ninth as a pinch-hitter and scored when Mike Rozema tripled to right field for his second three-base hit of the year and series. Gallardo uncorked a wild pitch that allowed Rozema to score to trim the lead to 4-2 and was taken out after giving up a single to Onil Joseph. Travis Phelps struck out Young and got Escobar to fly out before giving up a single to Josh Burrus that brought Michael Rosamond to the plate representing the potential winning run. Phelps fanned Rosamond to end the game and register his fifth save of the season. Rosamond has struck out 10 times in 14 at-bats in the series. The series continues Monday night with right-hander Tim Dillard taking the hill for Huntsville against Braves? southpaw Matt Harrison. Coverage of the game begins at 6:50 p.m. central time and can be heard locally on ESPN Radio 1450 AM and through the internet at www.huntsvillestars.com.

Final: Huntsville 4, Mississippi (Braves) 2 Braun with another homer---20 on the season---in two of the worst places in the world to hit a baseball..i dont think its outlandish to predict 30 hr's next year in nashville...Yo is the offensive mvp tonight...ridiculous... 16. I think yoho is a space filler/player coach.. he was the first base coach for both games i saw last week and he seemed to have a "mentor-ish" relationship with the players... yeah, he's played about 40% of the time, but he's not really blocking anyone because the guys behind him need to be starting, not filling that role...yoho's just a guy..but team's need players like that...especially in the minors
  17. Final: Helena 21, Casper (Rockies) 2 Cole Gillespie: Your League Mvp. Chris Errecart: His Runner Up. Those two make this years draft look impressive even without huge results from the 1st and 2nd round picks...I think Gillespie will be in Brevard (or wherever) to start with, and that they'll push him to AA as quickly as his performance allows...errecart in WV--then into Gillespie's slot in BC (or, again, wherever) Brevard County Box Score and Game Log www.minorleaguebaseball.c..._helrok_1

If Darren Ford can find a way to slug. even more as he continues to rise, he could really improve his standing as a prospect...Truly amazing to see someone hit for so little power in Helena, and then hit for a decent amount in WV...really hope he can build on this season and become an all around threat..

The Stars won their fifth straight game to improve to 36-25 in the second half and lengthened their lead to two and a half games in the North Division over Tennessee, which lost a second consecutive one-run decision, 6-5, to Jacksonville. Huntsville has won nine straight games at home and improved to 19-5 in August. Eddie Perez, in just his second start since early May, belted a two-out, two-run home run in the first inning to stake the visitors to the early lead. Steve Moss hit Braves? starter Eric Schmitt?s first pitch of the night for a home run and Nelson?s solo shot leading off in the second tied the game at two. Schmitt walked Moss, Callix Crabbe and Ryan Braun to open the third before Brendan Katin grounded out to score Moss and advance the other runners. Nelson followed with a monstrous three-run home to right field to give the Stars a 6-2 and become the first Huntsville hitter to belt two long balls in a game this season. It also was the first time the Stars hit three home runs in a game in 2006. Stars? starter Steve Hammond was taken out with 7-3 lead and the bases loaded and nobody out in the fifth. Gerrit Simpson came on and induced Josh Burrus to ground into a double play that scored a run and struck out Michael Rosamond to end the frame. Simpson worked scoreless relief in the sixth and seventh innings before giving up a two-run long ball to Rosamond that trimmed the Stars? advantage to 7-6. Chris Mabeus, in his first appearance in nine days, replaced Simpson and retired the next three hitters. Joe Thatcher took over for the Stars in the ninth inning and fanned Mike Rozeman on three pitches and Matt Young on four in his first double-A outing. Joe Valentine was then called on to face Perez and struck him out to end the game and earn his ninth save in 12 chances. Huntsville hurlers struck out 14 one night after fanning 15.
