I really don't understand the organization's seeming overall reluctance to use the DL. So now in the hope that Segura or Braun come back in a productive fashion some time in the next 15 days we will leave our roster short and now playing with one guy on the bench? Seems shortsighted to me.
I agree. I am one of those types of fans whose clock is literally almost programmed to the team between April and September, even if we are out of it. It must be a syndrome of some sort.... I will have to do some research.
And this is none other than Greg Vaughn with 50 in 1998, including 4 sentimental bombs into Vaughn's valley in County Stadium As I am reading this post Bill mentions Jose Valentin as the Pads 1B coach.... I am starting to get sentimental about those 90's Brewers teams all of a sudden.
Jake Peavy, Gaylord Perry, and two guys whose last names end in 'S' This is technically correct, would have also accepted Jake Peavy, Gaylord Perry and 2 guys who have never been in my kitchen. I believe that former Brewer Mark Davis is one of them.
There is a difference. Braun was placed on the restricted list and the Brewers were able to replace him on the active list (25 man roster). Gomez and Maldonado will be placed on the suspended list and will count against the active list and can't be replaced. I had no idea that this was the rule until RR started talking about playing with a 23 man roster in his presser today. So, are we sure that we cannot call someone up during suspensions? Seems kind of odd to me, though I suppose MLB might be looking at it as another deterrent to keep this from happening in the first place.
That was a smart play by Segura (assuming that is what you were referring to). With 2 outs, try to make them go after you rather than a rountine throw to first. Yep, that was my bad. When I posted that I thought there was one out because of Alvarez's decision.
