  1. Every year I have the kind of strange tradition of going and buying the Brewers media guide a few weeks before Opening Day as part of getting psyched up for the season. The media guides were released last week so I went down to the stadium on Friday night picking up that and a Brewers car decal since I got a new vehicle since the end of last season. My son and I put it on later that night, both excited and talking baseball. Saturday pretty early AM, we went out to the car and naturally, someone had taken the time to steal a $4 car decal. I am not complaining about the loss of $4, but seriously? Someone spent five minutes of their Friday night stealing a Brewers decal off of my car? It had definitely not just fallen off or something. It was on very tight and we looked everywhere around the car just to make sure. I know I should probably have parked in the garage, but still. Rant over.
  2. I am going. Despite having to deal with the drunks it is still a great day and makes me just as excited as it did when I was a kid.
  3. SP: Gallardo, Lohse, Garza, Peralta, Estrada BP: Henderson, Rodriguez, Kintzler, Smith, Wang, Duke, Thornburg C: Lucroy, Maldonado IF: Reynolds, Gennett, Segura, Ramirez, Weeks, Francisco OF: Davis, Gomez, Braun, Gindl, Schafer DL: Gorzelanny I want them to keep Overbay instead of Francisco because I see more value there for this season. That being said, I don't know why but I think the Brewers will look at Francisco's potential and keep him for that reason.
  4. Do we know enough about Wang to be relying on him for an entire season though? I know that we have to use a spot on the 25 man for him if we want to keep him, but to trade one of the guys we may need to rely on seems a bit hasty to me. Just my opinion.
  5. I will second one of the above posters who thinks BW3's is overrated. I am not much of a generic chain-type guy myself, but got really turned off BW3's after biting into a feather tip one time. Anyways, since you mention being willing to go as far west as Waukesha I would suggest Fuzzy's on Main St. a bit east of the downtown area. That place is amazing, and I've never been disappointed with anything I've ordered. Cheap as well, and they also have wing night specials. (Can't remember off-hand if it's Thursdays).
  6. I think it's more because of Gallardo's history with the franchise. Roenicke even said in the article that Gallardo was 'our guy' - referring to the fact he is a Brewer developed pitcher. Yeah, if I had to wager it is that RR's thinking that not starting Yo on Opening Day sends the message that we don't rate him as highly as the previous four seasons. Not sure if that's correct, but maybe when you have a guy who has started the last four opening days in a row still on your team you don't want to look like you are demoting him.
  7. Thanks for the share Bikeage. Great project. Your post of the actual autographed cards brought back great memories of just how bad Franklin Stubbs is at penmanship. I remember getting his auto in person as a kid at County Stadium while in early grade school and thinking that I could definitely write cursive better at that age.
  8. I read about this this morning in the MJS. It mentioned that Ozzie Smith is heading the effort. Even though those of us in Milwaukee already celebrate like it is a national holiday, I am all about making it official.
  9. Thanks for this Stache. I have so many good memories of Robin Yount, and probably like many of you, he really was the one who sealed my lifelong love for the team. On a different note, Stache, did you happen to see the PM I sent you awhile back?
  10. Regardless of the pension, I really do just feel bad for the guy. He wasn't injuring his knees because he came to camp out of shape. Just a real terrible string of bad luck.
  11. FWIW, I just heard DM on WTMJ and he mentioned that he hasn't even talked about this with Segura's agent. He said that he would potentially see if it's something that they may be interested in at some point.
  12. Can they afford him? the pirates have more money than they know what to do with, but he's said the pirates are the last team he'd sign with right now, so my money is him not coming back to pittsburgh. Not that I am doubting the quote, but do you mind citing Burnett saying that the last team he'd sign with is PIT? I just haven't heard that before, but probably just missed it.
  13. Good reference on Wade Miller. I am too lazy to look up the numbers right now, but he always seemed to kill us every time.
  14. Only partly if its a typical arbitration type contract. If he's cut before the season he only gets a prorated amount. Perhaps they also envision Francisco moving back to 3rd as a backup to Ramirez?
  15. I don't think the link works. Is this news serious? EDIT: Discussion can be found here, in the MiLB forum
  16. I like the HOF idea best because it seems like the team can both showcase the good and the bad of its history while at the same time really honoring the guys who deserve a special place in franchise history. When I put together the idea awhile back, it seemed especially weird that they had a Milwaukee Braves display front and center behind home plate at the stadium, but nothing for their own team. (With all due respect to the Braves, but still.) This Wall of Honor really doesn't solve much in terms of bringing fans closer to the history that they remember growing up. It would be cool to see jerseys from the different eras, memorabilia, ushers uniforms, County Stadium stuff, all of the things that make the team what it is. At the same time you have a distinct wall of plaques, or something like it, like they do in Cooperstown to honor Brewer-only inductees.
  17. Thanks Bikeage. That bit of advice about Collector's Universe is great for the Julio Franco card in a Brewers uniform dilemma, along with a few other guys. Keep us updated, that is a cool project.
  18. I am very saddened to hear this. I took batting lessons from him as a kid when they had the winter camps at Hegan's Field of Dreams. He was always a real nice guy. This is the third big loss from those 70's era Brewers teams this year (Hegan, May, George Scott). I wish that there would have been a bigger effort to bring some of these guys back to Milwaukee for Brewers related events prior to them all falling ill.
  19. I wrote the Brewers awhile back and said that I thought it would be a cool idea to have a Brewers Hall of Fame at Miller Park. I still like that idea much more than this wall that they are proposing. While the Hall of Fame inductees would be guys that truly have earned it in franchise history, the team HOF could be like Cooperstown in that they also include tons of displays and artifacts from guys from all eras of team history. To me that satisfies the need to document and honor the team's history, keeping a connection between different generations of fans, alumni, and the city itself. It also doesn't mean that you automatically honor all of these guys that they are talking about putting up on this wall. Their stories would be part of the overall history of the franchise, but not singled out as exceptional necessarily. I have seen the Reds HOF in Cincy, and the Cards in StL. Both are well-done and capture the history of the team without just paying homage to the Jamie Navarro's of their franchises.
  20. Thanks guys. Bikeage, I think we may have talked about this on a different forum awhile back, but what do you do for guys that don't have a Brewers card at all? I can think of a handful off the top of my head. While I am not doing the autograph route for their first card, my son and I are just working on a collection of each guy's first card with the team. Some have been pretty tough to get if they played post Miller Lite card sets in '94.
  21. Do you guys have a standard form letter that you send out or do you personalize things for each player?
  22. I think when he announced his retirement he also said that he's accepted a job in the Dodgers broadcasting booth.
  23. I can maybe get on board with this in theory, and obviously think it's worthwhile to try and prevent major debilitating injuries and concussions from happening if they are avoidable, but I am having a real tough time visualizing how this is going to be enforced. This seems to open up a lot of room for interpretation and judgement calls which will make next year very interesting to watch from that perspective.
  24. I remember enjoying watching that team, and went to a lot of games that year. If I remember correctly that was the year that we traded Vaughn at the trade deadline for Bryce Florie, Ron Villone, and Marc Newfield. I also wonder if we might have stayed in the race a bit longer without the 90's era inevitable deadline deal that seemed to suck the life out of the team and the fanbase.
  25. So did Prince. Just means Cano can make demands and possibly get another bonus of some sort if he approves a trade.
