  1. Whoa that's pretty cool. Who would've thought that one small move in 90s could have an impact on the team 17 years later? Segura was a kid when the Loretta trade happened. Dean Taylor.
  2. I will echo those who have said that it seems real early for the Braves to need a new stadium, that seems like yesterday that they moved from Atlanta Fulton to Turner. That being said, having been to their ballpark it's not in the best of locations. The parking seemed to be a real issue and the nearby neighborhood might be a problem for some. Either way, this is pretty interesting especially if it starts off a whole new series of updated ballparks around the league.
  3. Unfortunately, I think that you are correct in stating that the Brewers are likely to stand pat with what we've got and make this a very quiet off-season. If that is the case, I am not optimistic about next year. Finishing the season "strong" to go 74-88 overall in a division which will continue to have three very good clubs is not a reason for optimism. 2013 was a horrendous year in every sense of the word. We are essentially banking on that dismal record and overall poor performance being a fluke rather than what I see as a true lack of talent and depth both offensively and defensively. As it stands our starting pitching is suspect and our offensive is painful to watch at times. While we did have some very bad "luck" last year, we also saw success from guys that may or may not be able to replicate it (Lohse, Segura, Gennett, Davis). I wish that I saw things in a rosier light, but this team screams mediocre to me. I am really hoping to be proven wrong or that DM finds a way to plug some holes in the coming months.
  4. I am very glad that this thread is back this off-season. Thank you Mass Haas!
  5. Decent numbers in AAA without a ton of big league experience. Seems like a decent risk/reward claim to me.
  6. I disagree with this. Molitor did not necessarily leave on his own volition, he got pushed out the door by a franchise who thought he was past his prime and no longer worth the money. I don't recall him ever saying that he wanted to leave Milwaukee or that he was happy with the team's decision to let him walk. Either way, when looking up the franchise encyclopedia's all-time leaders, Molitor is just behind Yount in nearly everything. He significantly contributed to Milwaukee Brewers baseball for over a decade. To me, statues outside the ballpark are reserved for guys who made the biggest mark on the franchise. Considering that this organization seems to place a greater premium on honoring guys from the Milwaukee Braves era than showcasing their own history, I hope that Molitor gets his statue sooner rather than later.
  7. If you think Braun is the only top player who has been juicing since high school but whose organization chose to look the other way, I think you are sadly mistaken. That's not what I am saying. What I am saying is that an organization like the Brewers, particularly after the Mitchell Report, would be absolutely idiotic to give the longest contract in franchise history to a guy who is bound to get caught at some point. I would prefer to think that ownership and the front office was ignorant, but perhaps that is mistaken.
  8. If this is true than the Brewers as an organization, and the baseball ops side especially, were either ignorant or complicit. Nether seem like a good place to be. That being said, I am not sure how much stock I put into it being "well-known." The Brewers sure banked a lot of its marketing strategy on a guy whose use of ped's could have torched them at any time.
  9. Are you talking about pitching mechanics, or throwing in general?
  10. Unfortunately, I believe that this is exactly the way that the organization thinks. If this is good baseball, count me unimpressed. We are playing semi-ok baseball, utterly mediocre in my opinion, and if they believe that these last few months are acceptable enough for the franchise to bank on for 2014 and beyond we are in for some very long years ahead.
  11. Now reported by Yahoo and the JS as well. What a fiasco, any way you look at it.
  12. That play was unbelievable. Gomez is one of my favorite Brewers to watch play on a daily basis in a long time.
  13. Scooter and Davis coming through tonight. Glad to see some of our young guys taking advantage of their opportunity.
  14. Yeah, agreed. I just went to my first ever game at Camden Yards in Baltimore last week for one of their games against the Mariners. Food was a bit high priced, but other than that, it was an awesome ballpark and a very cool venue to check out a game.
  15. It is definitely bringing back some memories seeing the Brewers play the Mariners. That used to be a nice rivalry between two very bad teams. I still love those Griffey/Randy Johnson Mariners teams from back in the day. Yuni!!
  16. I just heard that Johnny Logan had passed when watching the game tonight. He is definitely a colorful character who loved Milwaukee and baseball. RIP to a man who played a vital role in the first and only world championship in Milwaukee history.
  17. FWIW, his medicals must not sound too bad. He's starting tomorrow against the Astros, lol.
  18. Dumb and Dumber Major League Anchorman
  19. Well that's a win. Lohse has sure looked strong the past month or so.
  20. I was too young to see him play myself, but heard plenty of stories from my dad. RIP Boomer, wish that I could have seen you in your prime when you were a reason to come to the ballpark on some very bad teams.
  21. Wooten's Brewers and MLB debut. Add him to the growing list of guys getting their first appearance out of the way this year.
  22. Except that iirc, the Brewers wouldn't even have any control of an event like that. Sportservice pays a huge fee to run concessions at MP.
  23. I agree with the larger idea behind your original post, but would disagree with you on declaring guys ineligible to play until legal proceedings are cleared up. CBA issues with doing that aside, I still want to see "innocent until proven guilty" as the standard by which we, as a society, live by in all aspects. Now, that being said, if KRod did do as alleged (and privately I think he's guilty as heck) than yeah, after he's found guilty make that subject to some MLB discipline as well because it is way worse than Braun's actions.
  24. I heard the exact same thing (Hernandez/Braun jersey exchange) idea mentioned tonight at my son's baseball practice. Also, Chris Carpenter aside, I am finding it a bit difficult to explain this whole thing to a seven year old. While I am certainly not naive enough to make professional athletes out to be any type of hero, it is nevertheless difficult to have to explain to a kid how someone he admires so much can be the country's number one villain right now. On a personal note as well, we got our dog during the Brewers playoff run a few years ago. My son proposed changing his name tonight from Brauny to GoGo Gomez. Ouch.
  25. I just brought up this angle to my wife a few minutes ago. I think that this story has implications FAR greater than the games he misses the rest of this year. Starting with the fact that the Brewers implied "team leader" and most marketable player has spent two seasons lying to his teammates and perhaps the organization as well.
