Thu Team, Game 2 recap: White House 22, Brewerfan.net 16
brewerjamie15 replied to Jimbo's topic in Other Sports
I hate White House. Not only do I hate them on the field, but they took all my money. Again. Classy bunch of guys, a good team. Too bad we are going to crush them next time out. I'm not bringing any cash either. -

YOU SCORE AS THE BREWERS SCORE Each run the Brewers score against the Red Sox is good for $1 off Loge Outfield Tickets for the May 27 game vs. Atlanta[/i] [/i] MILWAUKEE - The Brewers will make their first visit to Fenway Park in Boston since 1997, beginning a three-game series against the 2007 World Series Champion Red Sox Friday night. The Club will mark the occasion with a unique promotion called "You Score as The Brewers Score[/i],"[/i] as each run plated by the Brewers in the series will result in $1 off a Loge Outfield ticket for the May 27 game against the Atlanta Braves. The regular ticket price for Loge Outfield seats is $26. Every time the Brewers score, another dollar comes off the price of the May 27 ticket. The price will be determined at the end of the series on Sunday. For example, if the Brewers score seven runs Friday, four runs Saturday and six runs on Sunday for a series total of 17, Loge Outfield tickets will only be $9 ($26-$17=$9). If the Brewers score 26 or more runs during the series, the Loge Outfield box tickets will be FREE. There are only 2,500 Loge Outfield tickets available, and fans will be limited to eight tickets each. The tickets will go on sale beginning at 9 a.m. CT on Monday, May 19 through brewers.com and by phone at 414-902-4000. Service charges apply for online and phone orders. Milwaukee, Boston and Atlanta have strong baseball ties as the Braves originally played in Boston from 1876 until 1952. In 1953, the Braves moved to Milwaukee where they won the World Series in 1957. In 1965, the Braves relocated to Atlanta. "Milwaukee, Boston and Atlanta each have a rich baseball tradition with all three cities serving as a home base for the Braves at one time," said Brewers Executive Vice President - Business Operations Rick Schlesinger. "Combined with the fact that this is the Brewers first visit to Boston in 11 seasons, we decided to create a unique promotion to give fans an additional incentive to cheer on the Brewers this weekend." --more-- YOU SCORE AS THE BREWERS SCORE, Continued Friday night's game is a 6:05 p.m. CT start and will be broadcast on FSN Wisconsin, NewsRadio 620 WTMJ and the entire Brewers Radio Network. Saturday, the Brewers and Red Sox will see a 2:55 p.m. first pitch as the game will be televised nationally on the FOX Network. The series finale on Sunday will be a 12:35 p.m. first pitch and will again be televised on FSN Wisconsin.

I just dropped $50 for gas in a stupid Honda CRV. I have about 3 miles each way and even though I walk all day around work, I think the bike is getting more attractive.

We got ours last week. Unfortunately, Mary spent the whole thing to pay off credit card debt. We are up to date on all bills, credit card debt is nonexistent. I sure would have liked to buy something foolish and splurge like, but I had to go marry some broad who's responsible. That'll teach me. You guys know me well enough. I'd have totally wasted that money if she'd have let me.

Nothing is more humiliating than falling UP the stairs. My brother did that after my bachelor party. It was bar time, we staggered to my house, he stood on the porch yelling at the top of his lungs for everyone to shut the hell up because his about to be sister in law was trying to sleep. After he woke her up by yelling, he smiled at me, turned, went in the back door, and fell up the stairs not once, but twice. I fell down the stairs. Mary laughed at us both. I finally got in the house and called my mom to say my brother was staying at my house so he didn't have to drive or take a cab. When I got done explaining the situation, the nice lady on the other end of the line said it would be a smart move and perhaps having Mary call my mom would be a good idea because the person I spoke to was not my mother. At least the lady knew we were safe.

Well Owen, I gotta say it took some guts to come in and check out the site. I will also add that after a listener was condescending to you (which I had stated in my previous post) you did what ya had to do. I'd have done the same. I didn't attack you for that, only stated that mentioning Baseball America was kind of funny because they actually liked our site. I also went out and said that you banned 2/3 of your audience that day. If you find that in poor taste, I apologize. I suppose that we as a whole who posted in this thread kind of did what you did. Defended ourselves. I don't really listen to Madison radio on the internet, but I will make an effort to do so since you were mature enough to venture here. I guess we don't often see things from your point of view. It seems rather obvious that radio hosts no matter what format, have to deal with many off the beaten path or narrow sighted views. For that, I can see you getting tired of the same old thing. When finally an issue gets put to rest, some caller rehashes things and probably in a manner which does not entirely support or prove a point. I am in no way saying the caller Andy was wrong, and I truly appreciate his efforts to have pride in brewerfan.net. You handled things how you did, and oddly enough, my earlier thoughts seem to be ringing true. You have added a member to our site, and you will surely pick up listeners from us. Perhaps you will double your audience to 6? http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif

I just saw this thread and then listened to the clip provided by pretendastronaut. I don't really know if the radio host was ripping Brewerfan directly or just ripping all message boards in general. In the guy's defense, he did state that "Andy" became a bit condescending and seems to have suggested the host did not know about the trade situation. That comment right there could have set the host into a defensive mode. It seems to be an old issue with those two sports show guys, (the Inman trade) so they may have very well been venting. No big deal in my mind. Murphy did go on to mention getting stats or information from Baseball America. Ironically, if Murphy were at all aware of it or not, Baseball America's very own Jim Callis directly referred to Brewerfan.net as "an unbelievable site." So, it seems that the very source Murphy had seemed to claim as much more respectable than ourselves has actually read us over, and found that we are worthy of praise. Either way, Murphy has given us attention which is a good thing. Even if negative, it was free publicity and generated interest. He benefited by getting us interested in his comments, and perhaps we can attract one of his listeners to this site. Murphy, at the end of his rant, went on to ban poor Andy from listening to the show for a day. Andy was not the only one banned that day, there was another as well apparently. I'd think that not a wise move for Murphy since that is about 2/3 of his listening audience.

Zack- I recall you taking care of that, and it has been noted on my records. If you sent me a check in the mail, it was for each player's portion of the team registration fee. That did not cover individual player fees or ball fees. -

I have a recurring dream where this 5 foot squirrel holding a shot gun and smoking a cigarette has his back to me. He looks over his shoulder and yells "Pull!" Then these chipmunks scatter around by machines and little brewerjamie15's come zipping out all over the place flying up in the air. The squirrel goes hay wire and just starts a-blastin'. I scream at him to knock it off, he chirps "No." and then calls me a dirty name. So, I hop onto an Ostrich named Jim and he hurries me to the chipmunks. I chase them around with a vacuum cleaner that makes no suction sound. Instead, it plays Lionel Richie tunes at an ungodly volume. I look up in the air from time to time to see if the little me's are ok, they smile, and salute. I go back to chasing the chipmunks while the squirrel is still blastin' but missing everything. Every time I suck up a chipmunk, the song coming from the vacuum changes. Lionel Richie, Oingo Boingo, Joan Baiez, then finally to Iron Maiden after I get the last chipmunk sucked up. Jim the Ostrich is wearing a shirt that imitates the markings of a cow, and a football helmet with antlers sticking out of it is on his head. He asks me if I'm ready, I say yes, so I hop on his back and we go drink tea with a sloth named Keith. Keith is nice, but I don't know why I'm there unless it's to get key's the Leopard who wears buck skin pants lost in my other dream. Any way, I finally leave the tea party and walk the ten feet to where the squirrel is still shooting. However, the little brewerjamie15's that were flying through the air saluting everything are no longer there. They are on the other side of the field playing on a sea saw. I ask the squirrel just what the hell he thinks he's doing, and he says "Target Practice." I tell him he never hits anything and then take the gun away which by now, has turned into an ice cream cone. The squirrel who has not told me his name, simply says: "The reason I never hit anything is because I have no fingers to pull the trigger or steady the gun. Besides, chocolate shoots better than strawberry anyhow." Now here's the weird part. I'm not wearing any shoes through the entire dream. Isn't that weird?

Game is at Sijan. I unfortunately, am not going to be able to make it. My Achilles tendon is pretty flared up on my left ankle and now the right one is starting to hurt too. I hope I can play this season. Please remember if you have not yet paid your individual player and ball fees, I will need the money at the first game! Thanks.
-
Yeah, that may be easier on all of us. Let's switch to be D-Backs fans. I'd be less stressful, for sure. Only problem for me is the long trek to AZ. to see a game. About now, getting away from the Brewers isn't exactly like falling off a bandwagon, it's more like falling off a cliff. A long fall with that sudden reality at the very end of the trip. Whamo. Welcome to painville, brother.

New strategies to try to save the season?
brewerjamie15 replied to AdvantageSchneider's topic in Milwaukee Brewers Talk
Perhaps not using a lead off hitter with a buck ninety average would be a thought. Maybe changing up your closer who has almost as many blown saves as saves would be good too. A new coach. Sorry, "coach-ie". Add a Bocha Brat to the sausage race. Prince will like that. -
Out of morbid curiosity, I looked at offensive stats by NL team. Here's how we stack up. Remember, this is out of 16 teams. Batting Average: .239 just 8 points above last place SD and 50 points behind Atlanta. Slugging Percentage: .385 for a team that is supposed to be able to crush the ball, they are well behind the pace set by the .457 D backs. We are in 12th place. OBP: 12th place. .316, we'd have to go on a hitting streak to catch up to the Pittsburgh Pirates who own the 10 hole at .323. St Louis sits atop the NL at .373 in the NL Central, only Houston trails the Brewers and only by 1 point (.315) Stolen Bases: 8th with 19. San Fran has 38 to lead all of the NL K's: 5th.(2way tie for 4th) So far, the closest we've been to the top of the league, and not in a good way. 234 times Milwaukee hitters have K'd. The fewest? Atlanta with 171 Fla has the most with 277. Base on Balls: Middle of the pack with 116. Total Bases: 13th place. We are 91 behind front runner Chicago and just 33 above last place SD. We are last in our division. RBI: 11th, with 139. Chicago is again tops at 185. We lead only the Reds in our division and they have 138. Home Runs; 9th place. Remember, this team should have some long balls. We have 31, Philly leads all with 50. As far as the Central, we are above only StL. That's right, Pittsburgh is ahead of us too. Hits? We are dead last in the NL with 272. Chicago again leads the pack, they have 340. Runs: tied for 12th. The Chicago Cubs are again the front runners with 195. Milwaukee has just 144. We are last in the division. Take these numbers for what you want. They can be arbitrary as you know, but I think they deserve consideration when asking just what is going on in the Win Loss column right now. Edit: By comparison, I decided to look at Pitching stats to see if it is pitching that is losing games, or if it's hitting. (or, not hitting as it were) Again, these are team stats for the NL only. ERA: 14th place. with a 4.60. We lead only Pittsburgh in our division (5.18) and trail the first place Braves by over a run per game (3.51) Saves: Oddly enough, the Brewers are in 2nd place for the NL at 12. Only St.L has more, with 15. Looking at ALL of baseball, Milwaukee is in third place. Save Opportunities: 2nd place with 19. Only the Cards have blown more chances than our 7, they have 8 blown saves. Hits: 11th, with 309. Middle of the division. Runs: 10th place with 161. In the Central, only the Reds and Pirates have allowed more. First place Atlanta has allowed 120. Earned Runs: Only the Reds, Rockies, and Pirates have allowed more earnies. While Brewer pitching has given up 153, the Braves who lead the NL have allowed only 111. Home Runs Allowed: 15th in the National League. Only the Astros have allowed more. They are at 46. We have given up up 41, enough taters to serve a small army. By comparison, the Braves have allowed only 20. Ball Park differences? Sure, but wow. Walks: 12th place (with some ties in there) 138. 3 teams have allowed more walks than the Crew and last place only has 11 more. The Cards lead the League with just 105. Nobody in the NL Central has allowed more freebies. Strike Outs: 11th place at 226. Reds pitchers have the top spot for the NL with 272. Last place goes to the Pirates 179. As far as our division goes, we trail in strikeouts to all but Pittsburgh and the Cards. So in summary, when figuring out if it is hitting or pitching that is to blame, I think I can say they both stink.

5/7/08 Brewers (Bush) at Marlins (Badenhop): 6:10 PM CDT
brewerjamie15 replied to wOOgiE22's topic in Archived Game Threads
Consider this post totally in blue text. I'm quite pleased with myself right now. In the Season's Predictions story (found on the opening page) I had picked Rickie Weeks as the Brewers MVP for 2008. It's nice to see a team use a guy batting .192 as the table setter. He'll really be able to cause havoc on the bases with such prolific skill with the bat. Weeks has an all start type OBP at .322 as well. Batting him at the top spot is working out very well for the team. Once in a while, on total accident or some freak of nature, Weeks reaches first base where he has been able to swipe 6 bases which, actually is not bad Putting him in a tie for 8th place in the NL. Perhaps more impressive than the 6 swipes is the fact that it has taken him more plate appearances than most of the guys ahead of him, and he is tied for first in games played to achieve the 6 stolen bases. God forbid he reach base more often, it's rather obvious to me he must be working harder than other players who take less AB's or GP to achieve higher stolen base totals, significantly higher batting averages, much better on base percentages, more runs scored, or forcing pitchers to throw more fastballs to number 2,3,and possibly 4 hitters in attempt to stop Weeks from stealing. I'd hate to see Weeks allow the team to become more aggressive. Yup, that's why I picked him for MVP. Major Void of a Player.
